Monday, April 8th

Post by suzette58 » Sun Apr 07, 2013 6:09 pm

Good morning everyone.
I thought since it was just about midnight my time I could start Monday's thread. As you can see I cannot sleep. Just can't relax. I am sitting at the dining room table sewing binding onto the twister table runner. We had to go buy a new washer yesterday. Funny thing, them one that broke is only 4 years old. I am so tired of buying a major appliance and having it not last. Oh well, I told my husband that I was going to find a creek and a big rock to do my clothes. I have to have something to wash my quilts in. After I get some sleep I will quilt the last tractor blanket and the quilt for hubby's friend's wife. So, my week is pretty much planned out. Tuesday is delivery day for the washer so I will have to stay in the house until they come. And we all know how that goes. The last possible minute is when they will get here. I will check in later. Have a great day.

Good morning, everyone! I'm so excited that I finally have some GOOD NEWS to share! (It doesn't start out sounding so good, but it gets MUCH better!) Saturday, I decided it was time to tell Mom about my sister's passing. I was terribly distressed over the prospect, but worried because I'd given her some hints on Wednesday. Well, when I got to the hospital, she was MUCH WORSE! I didn't tell her, of course, just sat with her and kept her company for a few hours. I went home and sat in my chair feeling so depressed I thought I might need to go to the doctor and get pharmaceuticals to get me back on my feet. But, when I went to bed I actually read a few pages. I'm normally an avid reader, but I haven't felt like reading at all since all this began at the beginning of March, so I felt like that was a step in the right direction. Then, Sunday morning, I decided I needed to get out and get a little exercise and have some fun. I wasn't completely convinced I was ready, but when I noticed how worried the dogs seemed, I knew I'd better do something or get to that doctor! lol Well, I took a walk to a local monthly flea market where my friend has a table and visited with her all day in between customers. AND I bought a very small, but lovely bear's paw quilt top in dark green and brown! I only paid $6 for it, though the seller told me she had originally marked it at $18! What a lucky find for me...and an easy project to finish, though I'm going to take some time to contemplate making it bigger with borders. On my walk home, I stopped in my LQS and shared my find with a very enthusiastic co-owner, so I got another nice dose of socialization. By the time I got home, I felt pretty beat, but HAPPY! I'd almost forgotten what happy feels like. Then I steeled myself for my trip to the hospital. I always double check the room number when I check in and get my security visitor's badge at the front desk. Once in a while, they throw me off by moving her to a different floor for some new sort of needed care. Well, I was told she'd moved back down to the critical care floor (a little less intense than ICU), so I was really worried as I got off the elevator. When I found her room, there was the cart in the hall by her door meaning her terrible infection was back and I would have to gown and glove up, so my heart really sank. At her doorway, I looked in and found a woman sleeping with her mouth wide open...but NOT MY MOM!!! I was just heading back to find out where my mom was when my cell phone rang. It was Mom's nurse telling me that everything was okay, but Mom was having a difficult day and wasn't feeling very good, and could I please come for a visit? I told her where I was and what had happened and she assured me that Mom was still in the same room, and she was the same nurse I'd seen Saturday. I hurried up and found Mom crying uncontrollably with her nurse and aide trying to console her. I took over and we talked, and I got her to eat, and we talked some more...and I told her I think she's immortal (I'm telling you, every time Death comes knocking at her door she just slams it in his face!) and we need to change how she's living so she'll be more comfortable. Now, we've had these conversations before, but my mom is one obstinate person, and they don't usually end well for me. She usually ends them by announcing that she's not ready to make any decisions yet, she wants to wait and see what happens. Her mind is still sharp, so we can't make any decisions for her, even if we're right and she's wrong! This time, when we talked about the care choices she has and the possibilities if she would take her physical therapy, she was actually ENTHUSIASTIC! She asked me to get everything set up for her, which I'll do first thing this morning!! And, when I left, she was SMILING!!! Now, I still have 3 more days off for my bereavement leave (counting today), and I'm going to get Mom all set up, and I'm going to get up and out and do something for myself every single day, and get some exercise every day to build up my strength. No, I sure didn't tell Mom about my sister, but with Mom's spirits lifting, mine lifted even higher, and I KNOW I won't be calling the doctor, after all! Today was a big celebration of prayers working for me! I thank all of you for your kindness and prayers. I'm finally back from my funk! I still have some tough times ahead, but I'm ready to face my challenges again and enjoy the in-between!
My prayers continue to go out for all.

Suzette bummer you can't sleep. They just don't make things like they used to. We had a similar problem with a washer. I just hate that it is a waste of my precious time dealing with the problem more than anything else.

Lois hope you day at work isn't too bad. And have a fabulous birthday. Eat lots of cake and ice cream.

Jodi you have your plate full. Hang in there.

As for me, it's a little quieter at work tonight. It's the start of the work week for my officers on duty, so they're pacing themselves.
The last 2 nights were crazy busy. I hate when I have to actually work for a living. lol One more night of work and then a few days off.

I have guild this week and 5 quilts that will be leaving my house finally. Making room for the next batch.

Hope everyone enjoys a fabulous Monday. Lori

Lois: You will be first here: Happy Birthday!!!!
I should keep up with the birthday lists better. Thanks, Dolores for giving us all a nudge.

Jodie: God Bless you Girl!!! The wonderful walk was the start down the road to recovery for you. Glad you have some positives going on. Have a great day, friend.

Suzette: Good luck with the new washer. What happened that was so bad, that you could not get a repair man to fix the 4 yr old? So sorry that you have to be without your washer. Now that we are full timing, we have to go to the laundermat and I have to say that is probably the one thing that is the biggest challenge. Can't go to the laundermat and do a 1/2 load or short load of anything. Always a full load of clothers.

Lois and Lori: Have a great work week.

Velda

HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good morning.. boy can I hear the wind chimes blowing outside.. it's very windy, a great day to work indoors....

Marilyn and I had a productive weekend... Saturday we skated and Sunday we went and got her some new shoes.. she chose cowboy boots.. seems the girls are all wearing them now.. sometimes with shorts...

Chickie.. that reverse runner in Quiltmaker magazine is gorgeous.. my mind is spinning with color combo's... it really is a lot of work and wouldn't be a weekend project.. but it really is cool...

Karlene, you could probably sell hair extension cases and make a mint.. I use iron on (heat n bond) for my applique all the time and sew it with a blanket stitch, it washes well... I would love to see your project, bet it really looks cool.

Sharona, you made me smile... my aunt always told me I was a pip...

Suzette, hope your washer makes it there early so you can go play.. we recently got a washer, we are just rural enough to only have a monthly delivery day but we were first on their route so we got ourw early.. hope this one lasts for you..

Jodie, wow, you're like a new woman.. I am so glad you got yourself moving forward... you are still going to have to tell your mom, I bet she is worried about your sis and not knowing could be causing her issues... I am thrilled about your quilt top find too, a great project for you to play with...

Lois, sorry Monday isn't a good day at work...I sometimes have days like that.. hope yours has a smile in it... have a great birthday.

Lori, why are 5 quilts leaving? sorry things have been crazy at work..

Dolores, hope you have a great day too.

Velda, you need disposable clothes.. wear them a day or two and toss them... you probably could make a ton of money if you invented this... like at prom you could make disposable tux's and gowns.. they wouldn't be too expensive and can be gotten rid of after the event..

at the skating rink there was a little boy maybe 4 or so years old learning to skate by pushing a baby stroller around, he used it like a walker.. I thought that was pretty clever...

has anyone heard from O'Dorothy?

I need to get ready for work.. you all have a fantastic day,
Chriss

Good morning!

Suzette – I so feel your pain. They just don’t make them like they used to. Sorry you weren’t able to sleep.

Jodie – I’m just thrilled by your post! You sound like you’ve turned a corner. What a great find on the quilt. Prayers will continue for you and your mom. I’m so glad you’re doing something for yourself as well!

Lois – good luck at work today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Lori – what is up with these people not behaving themselves at your work?! What a drag. Hope tonight is better, but then you get some time off so yay!

Dolores – you are so sweet!

Velda – I can’t speak for Suz, but when our washer broke, the repair was nearly 2/3s the cost of a new one. When a computer board goes out, it’s a minimum of $500 to repair!! We used the Laundromat while the washer was out of commission. The good thing was getting all the laundry done at once. Hope you find something fun to do today.

Chriss – so did you get on skates this time? Sounds like you and Miss Marilyn had a lovely time. I’ve seen the cowboy boots and shorts combo out here also.

Judi – you’ll have to share with me how you fixed the quilt – I have some that need repair also. When do you get to start packing?

Today will be getting ready for the housecleaners and the snow. They’re now saying it won’t be blizzarding here in town, so that’s good. We’re supposed to get 8-12” of snow. Hope everyone has a lovely day. xoxo Sharona

Good Morning Girls

Gosh, it's Monday again already! Time to suck-it-up and go back to work. But I am on the count down.. 31 more days til I fly the friendlly skies to Alaska! I'm so anxious and ready to go on vacation, I'm even thinking about getting my suit case down!

Had a great weekend.. didn't leave the house! Got all the uglies done and still had time to make a couple more April Lotto blocks AND finished baby boy quilt! Will P & P (photo and post) later on tonite.

Suzette... I HATE those nights when my brain won't shut down so I can sleep! Sorry your Mr. Maytag couldn't be repaired.. sucks to have to buy a new one after only 4 years. I hope you will be the first stop on the delivery tomorrow so you don't have to wait around all day!

Jodi... my sincere sympathies on the loss of your sister. Must be hard to not know when or how to tell Mom. You will be in my thoughts and prayers... but I'm so happy that you are feeling better! Amazing what a little stroll can do.

Lois... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope your day goes quickly so you can get home to a lot of nuthin'!

Chriss... sounds like you had a delightful weekend. Cowboy boots? Would love to see a picture of Marilyn in her cowboy boots! In my next life, I'm going to be a cowgirl and have horses. And I'm going to be tall and skinny and be able to sing on key!

Sharona 8-12" of SNOW! Hope it misses you!

Wish I could stay and chat a bit longer, but it's time to jump in the shower and face the day! A big of good news this morning.. My Brother's daughter had a Baby GIRL this morning--the one I made the "jungle quilt" for a month or so ago. No word on her name yet.
And speaking of babies.. don't forget to sign up for my "Name the baby" contest over in Swaps!

Have a great day every one
