I'm really SLOW at this posting photos stuff, but here is an example of the size of my bindings:

Not only SLOW, but wrong!

One was 'deleted', and the other didn't show. Grrr!

So I HATE to give up or admit I can't do something.

Now, IF I did it right this time, one photo should show how wide my bindings end up and the other is the tablerunner that binding is on. But I do the same bindings for all my quilts, no matter the size.

If I did it wrong, I'm going outside to help DH with the leaves. It's a beautiful day here!

When I do a bias binding, I do cut it a little wider than 2", but unless I have a really thick batting, which I seldom use, the 2" works fine for me. But I KNOW that most people (including Eleanor!) cut their bindings wider.

I do enjoy doing bindings! Not the cutting part (ugh), but the hand sewing. It relaxes me!

Iowa girl I have been using metallic thread to do the quilting on my nieces quilts and was having the same problem. I have a special holder for serger thread and the pole on that sits above the sewing machine. I have the metallic thread on the sewing machine like I would normally, but use the serger pole as my first loop throught the machine. Now it works perfect. I tried turning the thread around and that didn't work either.

I think what happens is that the thread winds itself into the space at the top of the spool of thread and gets stuck so it can't move. So if you figure out a way to make your first loop of the thread up and kinda behind the spool it will solve your problem. I hope that makes sense. If it doesn't PM me and I will give you my phone number and maybe I can walk you throught it. Good luck
