JW- its super easy. I had 120 squares and wasn't even trying! I have my sewing machine on a regular kitchen table (in the living room...long story) and I have three of those big margarine tubs lined up. Every time I need a leader/ender I grab out of those bins and then I don't worry about cutting long threads. Then I stack what I've sewn from the leaders/enders until I feel like ironing them open. Once they are ironed, I put them back into the tubs.

Then, whenever I am trimming a block or cutting fabric for a project, I put the leftovers into the tubs too. When the leaders/enders are too big to fit in the margarine tub I trim it to 5inches. Then I safety pin those 5in blocks in groups of 10. I started doing this in Nov I think.

My crumb quilt only used up 91 of those 5in blocks. I couldn't decide how to set my blocks, and someone here suggested I lay them out and pick out the least seen color. I figured yellow. But I want to do sashings next time like Joanne!

mommyquilts I'm retired so I believe I worked on the crumbs for about a week, off and on. It's amazing how fast they go! Your tub idea is great! Think I will "steal" your idea. Mine were all over the place. lol!

Joanne - It will not be long before I am able to show you the red & white quilt top. The rows are now in pairs and I am sitting here pinning the pairs together. Yes, I should know better than to put the quilt on the floor, but I was trying to keep straight what I had already done. She is about 5 years old and a large cat (13-1/2 lbs.). She really was cute among the rows.

Joanne, I wanted to get some nice plastic containers from target, but I'm too cheap. Then I have a little bitty basket for the small pieces I get when I trim the leaders/enders. Those pieces are tiny!

sadly, crumbs become addicting....pray for me! lol

Joanne, are you doing the UGRR sew along? if it is you you just won... and you get to pick the next block....

can't wait to see what you pick

I do like those crumb quilts but I just got rid of all my scraps... will have to start a new stack.

Congratulations Carolyn! I know the feeling of having accomplished something. Today,I have finished sewing the rows of the Birds in the Air Quilt together. I also finished the binding, and washed the Tossed Nine Patch. I will post a picture tomorrow when I can get better lighting.
