KATHY, after I broke my ankle, each time I was told I could walk on it, first in the cast, then in the boot, and finally unsupported, I saw stars! But the orthopedist told me the only way to bring it back was to tough it out. So I would stand on my good foot, with my walker, and very gently and gingerly touch my foot to the floor, slowly adding more weight until I couldn't stand it. Then I would slowly lift my foot back up (because that hurt almost as much as putting pressure and weight on it) and do it again. Over and over I did that until I could stand on both feet, and then walk. At each stage the pain started anew! So, my advice is to tell your daughter to follow the doctor's instructions, but gently and on her own terms. The healing that needed to come first is done, otherwise the doctor wouldn't tell her to put weight on it. But now, getting back the use of her foot is tough. This is the first stage of physical therapy. Good luck!
