Re: Thursday February 6th
Good morning quilting buddies,
We ended up with about 14-16" of snow and the plows did not come out till it had stopped so any car out on the road had snow skimming along the underside as they went. I'm just thankful that Elizabeth had the day off. It is the first time in two winters that she has not had to either open or close the store during a blizzard. So what does this child do on her day off in a blizzard? She drives out to get her hair cut! The guy plowing the store parking lot told her she was crazy!
I went in to hibernation mode once I made it home (and I even left work early so I wouldn't get snowed in there) and I baked chocolate chip cookie bars and cinnamon rolls. I had a roast going in the crock pot that I started the night before, so it was a comfort-food afternoon and evening!
Okay, I better get going here. You all have a safe, warm day. Prayers for the many in need.
Karlene

Crabby - sometimes we just need to be crabby. We deserve it because a woman's work is never done.
Suz - I had to go to the lab for blood work the other day and they took me in early, too. I sure appreciated it. I saw a different way to do binding using Heat-N-Bond instead of glue. Still no pins or clips which is wonderful.
Lois - hooray for half a day. I don't blame you a bit for having DH drive you on those icy streets.
Scrap - I think it would be nice to quit working but I would still want the money coming in. Doesn't happen that way!
Velda - oh I wish I could be with you and Lyn today!!
Izzy - gosh, you must love us if you come here first before you make coffee! We love you, too.
Kathy - good for you starting WW. I really need to lose a lot of weight but I just can't get motivated.
Judi - it's good that you still have the energy to clean after you've been to the gym - LOL. I'd have to have a nap. I'm anxious to hear if you like the PP.
Tina - prayers for your dad.
Maryq - love that Minkee. You did good at JoAnn's. Are apartments that hard to find there? I don't know about the apartment situation here. Seems like they build huge apartment complexes and they fill up as soon as the last screw is in place. And they are building them everywhere.
Well, DH had his prostrate biopsy yesterday. What a big baby. It's a good thing men don't have to have the babies. Anyway, so now we wait for the results. Prayers appreciated. Went to the grocery yesterday after work for camping food, went home and had supper then sat on my hiney and did some outline around appliques. Tonight after work I have to fix dinner from scratch, pack food and clothes and bake a cake. I still might have time to sew. I walked out to come to work this morning and it was snowing! It wasn't sticking on the grass or the streets but it was on roofs and mulch in the flower beds and on my car. OK - I'm ready for spring except that's when the snakes come out.
I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Re: Thursday February 6th
Good morning! We are still frozen here. There is a chance we might get a degree or two above freezing on Saturday. I’ve gone from my flannel-lined jeans to fleece-lined. I look like the Michelin Man’s wife. It’s worth it to stay warm.
Sooz—sorry you had a bad night. I’m curious, do you work at a hospice or do you make calls as part of an in-home hospice or both? When my late DH had cancer, the hospice nurses and CNAs came to our home and helped me with the nursing duties. My DD is office manager for a home hospice care company. There are very few “stand alone” hospices in this area. Clients will be placed in nursing homes, and the hospice workers will visit them there if they are unable to receive home care. I keep seeing Dresden plates and want to make more of them. Too many quilts dance in my brain…
Karlene—when we went to town yesterday, the roads still hadn’t been touched. What a mess! I think my hibernation mode is catching—baking, eating, sleeping. It’s definitely comfort food time of year. I’ll be dieting like crazy come April!
MaryQ—I understand your need to sleep in and only get out as long as necessary. It is SSDD here, too. I am going to have to thaw my truck out to go to town on Saturday.
Tina—I hope your dad progresses well. That was rude that the surgeon, assisting, or nurse didn’t come out and give your mom an update. You should write a letter to the hospital administrator. I know surgeons have “an attitude” but most of them will come out and give a surgery review.
Sherry—I am so sorry to hear what happened to your DH and the early release. That’s unconscionable, too. I hope he will make good progress this time and be home before long! Our sons are all on the township volunteer fire department, and they too have shoveled snow and gone “above and beyond” to make a way for the ambulance service. Most of our volunteers are paramedics or EMTs and work for various area ambulance services, too. DS1 is a first responder; DS3 is a paramedic.
Judi—that is really ambitious of you! I feel like a slug. I know our kids would like them, but I wonder how some of them would take care of them… Good luck at your FPP class! I’m sure you will pick up the tricks and have a new obsession.
Kathy—My friend is an assistant WW leader. She lost 100 pounds and has only gained back a few pounds in 8 years. Enjoy your knittin’ day!
Izzy—the kids here have been out a couple of days. I don’t know if they are in session today or not.
Velda—have a fun day with Lyn! Some of my quilting friends from work and I used to take a day and go shop hopping. We took the car with the biggest trunk.
Leah—good job on getting the best of Photobucket! I love your autograph block quilt and the scrappy setting. I really like scrappy quilts!
Lois—I used to drive everywhere in the snow and on the ice, but I’ve gotten chicken in my old age. I’d rather sit back and let someone else drive Miss Chickie. I don’t blame you for leaving the driving to your DH!
Suzette—hope you can take some Vitamin C and avoid a cold. Maybe you will be busy and work will go quickly. I’m assuming they got the heat fixed for you. I’m going to try a braid quilt next, I think. I do have the pattern and a jelly roll out.
I’m hoping to finish the bird house blocks today. I have five blocks left for embroidery. That’s 15 eyes and thirty feet and legs… I want to hand quilt on my DD’s quilt, too. I’ve let it slide recently.
Enjoy today!

Just a shortie. Been packing up the inside and the outside. When you set your wheels down for 2 weeks, there's lots to do. Especially if you've also got an ATV and all its gear to load up and tie down. We're almost ready to roll out of here. Heading for Picacho St Park between Casa Grande and Tuscon tonite. Then to Deming tomorrow to see our Tina.
Prayers and howdies for all!
hugs, Mary z

Miriam - I also have gone to the fleece lined jeans. They are not much of a fashion statement, but I don't care. I'd rather be warm! I've been trying to find a pair for my dad because he gets so cold, but he would want khakis and not jeans and now the stores are selling off their stock of lined pants and not restocking. But I'll keep looking.

Tea Time.....
The Nor'easter expected on Sunday is just going to be a little snow. Thank goodness!! Someone went over my driveway with a snow blower!! If I had know this would happen I wouldn't have shoveled. My across the street neighbors are in FL so it might be the man kitty corner to me. I'll make some cookies & pop over this week end. If it's not him I'll leave the cookies they have 3 children......lol
Judi...I'm in a heat wave compared to you...18' going to 22'. Four quilts!!! Your a wonderful Mom. What a great gift.
Tina....will keep you dad in my prayers.
Maryq.......have you tried circling apartment ads & leaving it out for or giving it to her. What happens Ap 1? Sent you a PM about the sweater pattern.
Karlene.....I'm hibernation too. We only got 12". How beautiful the spring flowers will be.
Cindyg....I have to lose a lot of weight too. I'll cheer you on...if I ever get out to a meeting. My DD1 says do it on line....but I think I need to "go" to the meetings. I'll keep your DH in my prayers.
Chickie....flanneled jeans sound real good about now. Keep warm.
Izzy...good to hear your teeth are in....too bad the ice is holding you back. You know you can't ship goats in a Flat Rate box....even I know goats eat everything. They'll chew right out of that box. lol
Maryz....praying for safe travel.
sewing here I come.........Kathy
