Re: Friday, January 31, 2014
Good Morning to ALL
Prayers to all of our pals with special needs. We had terrible news in our family this week as well. I didn't say anything when it happened, because I think I am still in shock.
My nephew (age 51) had a massive heart attack and did not survive.
They are having horrible weather back in Illinois and he was out helping a friend who was stuck. The state police had pulled everyone off the roads and put them in motels. He stayed the night with his friends in the motel. Went into the bathroom in the morning and suddenly just dropped with a heart attack. They did CPR and the helicopter rushed him to Peoria, IL - heart center. Just couldn't save him. The funeral is tomorrow and guess what - the area is being hit with more snow. Now I am wondering if our son and DIL will be able to even go to the funeral. We thought about making the trip home for this, but finally decided, we had better just stay put.
Boy, I am so glad now, that we didn't try to travel. This is a family that just lost in May, their mother/grandmother. My brother's wife.
They are so full of grief, my heart aches for them. We have so many friends here that need prayers and comfort and I will continue to lift you all up in my prayers.
I had a very nice visit with my brother on the phone. He is trying to be strong, but admits that it will hit him hard next week after all the funeral, etc. This was his oldest son, who, as he puts it was "his ROCK" after loosing his wife in May. He leaned on him for lots of things. One night, he had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night. He was able to call his son to take him. My brother has 5 children and most of them live very close. That is good, that they are a close family. That will help them to get through this, I am sure.
Well, enough of the sadness. Let's all get ready to do some sewing and piece some beautiful blocks today. Let's stitch a little sunshine into them.
Love to you all. and Hugs and prayers.
Velda

Good morning!!
It's raining...yay!!! I know it's a drop in the bucket but it's something.
Chriss, yes, sons are a very wonderful thing! I have two daughters and one son and he's very special. My heart goes out to Jules' sister who lost her son.
Maryz, how's your brother? any news. My DS#2 started a job as a Patient Service Representative (PSR)for SHARP in San Diego. I told her it's a job for her but to be very conscious of people's feelings.
I noticed Lori's been missing, what's up?
I just can't understand how a 15 month old baby can wipe us out so fast. Drew refuses to walk. We stand him up and get him into position then he raises his legs! DD says he's been taking a few steps but he has to be in the mood. I don't mean to compare but his brother walked at ten months.
Today is my dad's birthday. He has dementia and not the same as I saw him 5 years ago. He and my stepmom (she doesn't like me calling her that)moved to Tucson, Arizona which is closer to her family and 8 hours away from his family. It's gonna be a difficult phone call, his hearing is bad and I'm not sure if he'll recognize me. Bottom line, I'm grateful she's caring for him.
Teresa, remember the movie "Rainmaker" with Burt Lancaster and Kathryn Hepburn?
I think I'll lay low today and recuperate after Drews' visit. Tomorrow we'll go for groceries early.
Stay warm you snow bunnies!
Lucie

Good Morning!
TERESA - sorry your sinuses aren't up to "sniff". If you went out and shouted to the heavens to "RAIN!!" I don't think your neighbors would think you were nuts. I think they'd join you!! We had a out 12 drops here near Yuma about 6 nights ago. all they did was make spots in the dust on our vehicles.
LYN - I understand getting interrupted repeatedly by our fur-kids. Only too well!
LOIS - I've seen Lori post a couple of times on FB. And I know she works bad shifts and posts more when she's working days or evenings.
SUE - my heart clenched for you when I read that your son is leaving Monday for Afghanistan. I knew he was going 'sometime soon'. Prayers go with him! We are in Senators Wash, just north of Yuma until Feb 6th. Then our plan is to head for Picacho St. Park between Tuscon and Casa Grande for the night of the 7th and be in Deming the night of the 8th. But we have a little wiggle room in our itinerary. If we can't work out a meet-up somewhere, we'll see you when you get back to TX. We'll plan our mini QIAD gathering.
VICKY - I hope your tooth feels better soon and this residual pain is just because it's inflamed from the work they did. I've had one root canal. They gave me a sedative (Halcion - 2 tablets) at my own request and it put me out. I have no memory and it all went smoothly. and they did the entire procedure in one appt. I don't think you'd like dentures. They have their own set of problems, I hear.
SUZ - happy birthday to your son! So neat that he still wants to hang out with his mom. My son is like that, too. Though he lives far enough away I don't get to see him as often as I'd like.
JUDI - I hear you on not wanting to track in the slushy slop while packing the RV. Our RV is under a big canvas cover stretched over a frame and only about 10 steps out the back of our garage. REally nice for packing/unpacking. I'm laughing at you hiding Ken's jacket until you can sneak it into the trash. I read that to Bill and his response was, "You women are all alike!" because I did try to toss an old, raggedy henley shirt I'd never seen him wear. and he fished it out of the trash, kept it another ten years and still never wore it. But I still get 'comments' about doing that. lol!
BECCA - I hope your weather warms up soon for you!
KATHY - oh, I do hope your laundry isn't the highlight of your day!
CHRISS - uh, congratulations (I think) on not getting the job.
VELDA - so sorry to hear of another loss for your brother. My heart aches for him. Perhaps they could have a memorial service later when the weather is better.
LUCIE - I so remember those days when the grandsons were little. Our Drew, also, could wipe us out in a couple of hours. He walked at 9 months, but his younger brother, Alec, didn't walk until 16 months. We thought we'd have to carry him through his graduation! on the plus side, Alec could entertain himself for hours while Drew needed constant attention. the good news is that they are both smart, wonderful young men now. and walking great! lol!
My brother was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon and I guess they are headed for home ASAP and are refusing to have their son fly down and drive with them, or for us to drive along with them. The results of his tests show only that he has a 'mass' surrounding his lungs, probably in the pleural sac and they can't do a biopsy now because he's been on aspirin and needs to be off that for a week. So he was advised to go home and have it done by his own doctors. So we are praying the ride home - 4 days - will be uneventful for them.
I actually got to sew for a few hours yesterday while DH was off riding the ATV with a friend. Can you say H E A V E N?? Today, it's empty the holding tanks and refill up the fresh water tank. We have to anchor everything inside, pull in our slide, hitch up, move all the outside stuff out of the way and lumber our way the mile up to the dump station. We wait our turn in line, do our business, and then lumber back and set ourselves up again. It can take up to a couple of hours, depending on how many other folks are also using the dump station. I hope to be able to sew a little more again today, too, and maybe go for a trail ride with DH.
and that's all I've got for now!

Teresa - you haven't done enough rain dances! Get on out there, girl!
Lyn - those birdhouse blocks are going to be so cute.
Lois - enjoy your sewing today.
Sue - I'm so excited about our machines being painted "Kandy"!!! I want you to hurry and leave so you can hurry and come back. I have to wait a long, long month - scheesh! Enjoy your visits and be very careful on the drives.
Vicky - ask the dentist to do an Xray on that tooth. He may not have gotten all the infection and nerve out of the root. Once they drill out that nerve you shouldn't be in any pain. I say this from experience as I've had probably 6 root canals in my lifetime.
Suz - sorry the kids and the fire gave you a scare. I wouldn't have been able to sleep. It's warmed up here, too. Going to be 70* this afternoon and not getting cool again until Sunday afternoon.
Judi - you can throw away Ken's ratty jacket and tell him that since he got his new one that you thought the old one was suppose to go in the trash. That sounds logical to me.
Becca - when will the ice melt off your driveway? My BFF's daddy moved to NC and lived there for years. She would always talk of how gorgeous NC is. Even though he passed away she still wants to go there just to visit.
Kathy - Sue and I see each other regularly. What she is talking about is meeting up with Maryz, Lyn and Velda for lunch and a good visit while the snowbirds are still down here. I guess that will be around the 1st of March since Sue's going to be gone for a whole dang month. We do plan on having a good time when we meet. We have such a short time at the quilt show - we only meet for lunch and that time is short because we all are anxious to get back to our shopping - woo hoo!
Chriss - I guess the Lord answered your prayers about the job. How did your other interview go?
Velda - oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. Jules also lost a nephew this week. With all the weather I'm glad you are staying put and not trying to make it up there. Sudden deaths are so hard because there is no time to prepare oneself.
Lucie - does Drew walk if you hold his hand? I'm sure it's very tiring lugging a 15 month old around all day. Did you sleep good last night? LOL
I have to get busy here at work. I plan on sewing this weekend and we are also going to my BFF's so clean the tracks and wheels on the quilting machine and see if that fixes our problem. If not I'll be taking it somewhere to get fixed. My new RV quilt has been loaded on the frame for a few months now.
Prayers sent up for all in need and I hope we can all fondle some fabric today.

Good morningâItâs gloomy here⌠overcast and cool (32 degrees). Iâve been AWOLâout of town Wednesday and company yesterday. Too busy! I thought retirement was going to be relaxing. Ha!
TeresaâIâve been fighting the sinus thing since fall. Some days are better; some days are miserable and I donât feel like anything. Hope you feel better!
LynâMy chickens are still waiting on eyes and feet so I can mail my bird house blocks. Maybe todayâŚ
Loisâenjoy your day inside!
Sueâbest wishes for your son and a safe deployment! Have a fun trip!
Vickyâhope your tooth feels better soon! Maybe your dentist needs to look at it again and make sure the nerve is dead. Enjoy your dinner with Tia⌠means baby time!
Suzetteâcan you speak with he parents of the boys? If you canât, the fire department may be the next call⌠Have fun with your son! Happy Birthday to him!
Judiâyour quilt is so pretty! Iâm tired of the coldâwe havenât had much snow although might get a âwintry mixâ sometime today. What fabrics are you using in your new quilt?
Beccaâhope you will get a warming/melting time! Snow is pretty for about three days, then itâs time to be gone.
KathyâI need to start laundry today, too. So glad your DD is doing so much better. Have a super day!
Chrissâguess that takes care of the anguish of deciding to accept the job or not. I wouldnât want the headaches of supervision for $1.81.
VeldaâSo sorry for your brotherâs and your loss. As parents we never want to bury our children. Iâm sure his friend feels horrible after your nephew was trying to help him. My sincere sympathy to your family.
LucieâIsnât that funny⌠the difference in childrenâs development. My cousin didnât talk until she went to kindergarten. She could get people to do her bidding by pointing. DHâs son did the same thing. They took him to a specialist, and he talked for him. Kind of like âwhy didnât you say you wanted me to talk?â Iâm sure the key is in âhas to be in the mood.â
MaryZâIt IS nice to have some time by yourself to sew⌠ask me how I know!!! Best wishes for your brother! Good luck at the dump stationâŚ
Cindyâgood luck with the quilting machine! I havenât been able to try out the one Debby hasânever connect with her, and she lives across the road. I havenât seen the machine since last spring. Hope yours is a quick fix and sheâs humming again.
I need to get busy here⌠shower for me and laundry sorting and getting it going. I really slept in today. No sun means my eyes stay shut. So, Iâm behind before I get started.
Enjoy today!

Good morning!
Judi - just tell Ken that you "donated" his old jacket - to a place that needed it more that he did, since he got the new one! LOL Michael is the same way with clothes - the only way I got rid of stuff, when we were moving, was to tell him I donated it - that made him feel better.
Velda - so sorry for your loss. It is hard, no matter how long or close since the last loss was. Prayers for your family.
Chriss - this will work out for the best! Family time is more important. Michael was up for a promotion once and decided not to take the job at that time - worked out great for us as they wanted him so bad, that the company created a position tailored just the way he wanted it!
Well my day is looking out over the new snowfall. My car will be ready sometime today - they had to keep her overnight as one of their mechanics didn't show up. Oh well, I didn't realize how much more sewing time I have with no car to get around in - to find more trouble! LOL
Time to get going on my birdhouses!
Do something fun!
Hugs

Re: Friday, January 31, 2014
It's Friday and we are up around 30 degrees! It is such a relief to be above 0 degrees! It kind of wears on my nerves, like having really windy days for several days in a row and then the wind dies down and you just feel a *whew* in your self. Maybe it's just me.
Elizabeth had the day off yesterday and so she brought Harley down. Oh, I am definitely a ga-ga grandma!
David was planning on painting the bedroom this weekend, and we are still unsettled about where we are moving to. Other than we will be closer to my parents in Denver, the location that made the most logical sense just isn't sitting right with either of us, so I hope God just hits us both upside the head and makes the next step clear!
Chriss - sorry about the job, but you have a good attitude - there is a reason. As for the adoption process, wouldn't it be nice to have common sense play more of a part in this? The important thing is Marilyn is in a safe, loving home and she will stay there. That's a win.
Pat - so sorry that the treatments have been so rough on you. Prayers are being sent up for you and your DH.
Velda - so sorry for your family's loss. Sometimes the sadness is too much all all coming at the same time. Prayers for your family.
Wishing you all a good weekend, and although in the grand scheme of things it is of small importance - Go Broncos!

Good morning!
Velda - I'm so sorry for your family's loss. Prayers being lifted up for all of you.
I've read all your posts - it warms my heart so; how we can all share our ups and downs.
We got about 3" of snow with more on the way this afternoon. DH just fired up the tractor so I best go out and help him not hit anything. Have a great day! xoxoo Sharona
oh - almost forgot - GO BRONCOS!!

Weather is getting on people's nerve in MB.. Snow everywhere, very cold! That got me out, 3hr. transit ride, to Quilt as Desired, to get a darning foot for my machine... She wanted to sell me a walking foot. Caught the chills waiting for the bus.. Have food for the week.. Kitten thrilled to see me return.. And now, can try to figure out this quilting all while reviewing the tutorials that teach me how..
I really want to finish for quilt show, and for once be like everybody else with a lovely quilt on display. It makes me sad at times to be unable to own things to make beautiful quilts. But some have loved ones who die very young, and that is sadder.. Life cut short! No money.. least their hope things might change.

Good afternoon Im waiting for DH to get home so we can drop car off at shop for the yearly fix its: head light, tail light, breaks, filters, oil and of course breaks and to wrap it all up tire rotation. LOL I wink at you coming and going LOL lights went out past month better get new ones before a ticket
Then to grocery store and maybe grab a pizza for tonight and then home to sew and enjoy myself.
I worked on celtic mystery while waiting for DD and laid out all blocks and Oh MY I am short one block. I counted those babies twice. I guess a quilt thief took one LOL Who knows either that or all that dental anesthetic made me miscount LOL.
Sew I have that block to make, 6 SBS blocks to make, and my mystery quilt for EL blocks to make there are 8 of them I think LOL I will be sewing like crazy this weekend:) Rain to move in tomorrow sew thats a good thing.
I am so glad Scrappy pat posted. Sew worried about her, but now we know she just needs our prayers and rest.
