Good Morning Girls
HAPPY MONDAY!!! Time for me to go back to work... but it's all okay... I have Friday OFF and it's PAY DAY! So I think I can muddle through the next 4 days!
Had a wonderful weekend... got to sew a lot, got some uglies done and yesterday my kids came and brought dinner---doesn't get much better than that.. I didn't have to cook and OR clean up the kitchen! It was so windy yesterday all the trees are bare now and today they are talking about a "winter storm watch" I'm so not ready for snow!
Judi... once you get the hang of your new phone, you'll love it. You can even down load a Joann App and it brings up the sales and coupons that they scan at the store. None of my kids have land lines any more! Luckily I have kids and co-workers that have taught me a few things. It's sure come in handy. And sometimes I can "face time" with Jen all the way in AK...
Velda... So glad to hear you made it to Texas AND Got to stop in Houston! "Sewsew" in Ann. How fun to meet those gals. Going to Houston is on my Bucket List. Now it's time to get settled in and make your place a new home!
Dolores.. Sorry to hear that Carmine has passed. My condolences to your DIL and her Mom.
Izzy....Do you have some of that stuff...my mind just went blank.. that's like iron on interfacing? That's what I use for the round middles of the DP. Cut a circle of the center fabric and the iron on stuff and sew them right sides together--the rough side of the interfacing is the right side--sew all the way around, the cut a slit in the interfacing and turn the circle inside out! Then you can place the circle in the middle of the DP and iron it down and sew around the edges! Hope that helps. Judi is also a DP expert--so she may have another way of doing it too!
Tess... Will definitely keep your nephew in prayers... for him and the Doctors that care for him. May God guide them to find a way to stop this terrible disease.
Vicky.... Oh Gosh... 2 days down with the "bug" Hope you feel better SOON!!
Suzette... when the elves are done at your house... send them on up here! I need some cleaning fairies! So proud of you gals that have your SS's done or close to being done!! I have a few things done, but need to get my hiney in gear!
Chriss... Hope you have a Marvy day too!! Are you loving your new car?
Lois... with all the PT you'll be dancing again in no time! Are you looking forward to going back to work?
Well the clock has been ticking away here in my office... haven't turned it back an hour yet.. I may just leave it, it will be DST again in a few months anyway! Time for me to fly... find something for lunch--oh wait I have left over lasagna from dinner last night!
Wishing you all a Most Wonderful Day and may you be covered in threads by the end of it!

Good Sunny/cold Morning....
Had good sewing day cut out 2 toppers & started sewing. I forgot I bought some daffodils & Snowdrops to plant so I need to do that asap. I need one of those round hole diggers.
Shirley Mae....prayers being sent to you...hope you're feeling better.
Suzette....hope those elf's are helpful & sew as well as you. There is always so much pre-op things to do I was relieved when the surgery finally time for the surgery.
Lois....did you post photos of the baby things? I'm low on boxes so I can't help. I need 2 myself. Come to think of it I saw an old factory not to far from me that said 'boxes', have to check that out. PO's are too much $$$.
Dolores...sorry to hear about Carmine. Will keep his family in my prayers. I can't believe it's been that long since Patrick & Wyatt were both sick. Thanks for the update I think of them often. I wonder how Wyatt is doing. Your quilt is beautiful & you were very lucky to get it.
Vicky....like everything else the 24hr bug is bigger & longer than before. Hope you are better by the end of the day. Happy to hear you are resting.
Tess.....I'm inspired by your apple butter making to make mine this week. I have finally found some jelly jars at Walmart. But only 1 doz, I had to toss out doz & doz when I moved. Praying for you nephew & his Dr's.
Velda.....I'm sure we are all a little green you were able to meet up with some of us. A wonderful time was had by all. Sorry I missed you Sat message....but a good thing you were able to leave for your trip with 'safe numbers' for DH.
Judi....it was 24' at 6:30 but it'a already gone up 7'. Hope you have a good Dr appt. You were a 'house afire' yesterday! I'm the same way about technology. Why, I ask myself. I want to learn it. Good luck with your new phone.
Izzy.....it's a good idea to watch videos for quilting problems. I've found them helpful. I'm going to Austin TX to DD2's house & my 2 DGC.
I'm booked & ready.
Chriss....good idea to be banned from the kitchen. (: (:
I cooked some things for the week yesterday & had cold cereal for dinner.
Love & prayers to all.......Kathy

Re: Monday, November 4th
Good morning! Today my Mom is 95. My two sisters and niece are going to have lunch with her since she didn’t want a “big deal” made of her big day. Since my DD has to work, I’m hoping she and her DD can come over and have lunch Saturday. It will help that there are not so many people at once.
Yesterday I took my bone med for the first time. I am delighted to have a reduced reaction—lots of aches, but they got better in the evening. I can deal with this one.
Judi—I’m seriously thinking about a smart phone. I need to find time to get to the phone store and check out the merchandise. Then I’ll have to get my DGS to teach me the finer points of using it.
Our son harvested a bunch of sweet potatoes this year. I think it was the first time he had grown them, or at least had any luck with them. I’m hoping he will share…
Sounds like everyone had a super time at Houston. What fun for everyone to be able to get together.
I need to get myself put together and pay some bills before I go to town today.
Best wishes to you all! Let the thread times roll…

Re: Monday, November 4th
Good Morning,
I need to go get breakfast and do more packing. Still hope to leave on the 12th if we can. Thank you all for your prayers and words of support. They are helping so much. SIL was very civil last night, downright friendly. Wonder what he is up to. LOL Maybe DD let him have it after they got home the other night.
I do feel better. Doing lots of cranberry, vinegar and honey, and lots and lots of water and think I got this UTI thing taken care of.
I called dr office again fri about meds but no one ever called me back. Thought this new office would be better.....NOT.
Dgs's eczema infection is clearing up and he is on Keflex for awhile. He was so wound up last night and back to his old self. WE will really miss him. DD brought some more boxes for us and picked up all the stuff DGS had out here, bikes, toys, clothes, a little chair, big stuffed animal, etc etc etc. I think he was moving in at one time. LOL
Sending prayers for all your needs today and always. I will write to a few and just say hi to others. Lots of things to do today and I need some coffee before I begin. Have a great day, God bless everyone.
TEss....prayers for your nephew today. May God be with him as he goes thru all these tests and procedures.
Delores......prayers and sympathy to the family for the loss of Carmine. May God bring comfort and peace to all the family. God bless.
Vicky.....Hope you feel better. I went thru the flu too before I got that UTI so be careful. Still fighting that bugger. God bless.
Lois....Happy you are doing better and almost back to work. It has been a long wait, hasn't it. May God bless you with continued healing and quilting in your future.
Velda.....glad you made it to your winter home. I know you enjoyed the quilt show. Maybe someday I will get there. God bless as you settle in and enjoy yourselves. I miss that rv life style but moving back to MO with family should help some. Only 8 days to go and I am not done packing.
Grammie.....good luck at dr apt and don't be late. I hate smart phones. Rod has one and I can't figure out how to use it. Give me my flip phone anyday. I can Call, talk, and text when absolutely necessary. Forget all that other techo garbage. LOL God bless and have a great day out there in the world.
Chris......you are such a busy lady. When do you find time to work? I smiled when you wrote you burned the chili. No problem as long as you don't scrape the bottom. When it starts to stick and burn, take off burner and pour (do not scrape) into a clean pan. If you stir or scrape the entire batch will taste burned. Scrape the burned part off in the sink or trash after you pour only what will pour out. God bless you and Marilyn and Jerry in your busy little lives.
Izzy......Another busy busy lady, goats, dds, school and all. God bless and have a great day. Have fun with turkey preps. I will be in MO by then and hopefully someone else is doing all the cooking this yr. LOL
Suzette....Prayers for you as you go thru all the prep for surgery. Glad you still have time to sew. God bless you in the midst of all this turmoil.
Please keep Deb/psf*** (don't remember rest of name)in your prayers. See chitchat for latest. Her nephew was found dead, only 28 I think. Something with pancreas. Bernie. her DH, is falling a lot now too. She has been thru so much and desparately needs our prayers and support right now.
Take care everyone and have a quilty day somehow. For those sick, just rest and get well soon.
Hugs and love across the miles, Shirley Mae
I know I walked on some of you but out of time to type. Sorry.

Re: Monday, November 4th
Thought I'd pop in for a second---I need to get busy with my ugly chore.
Now to answer a couple of questions:
My nephew is 50. He will be seeing the doctor at Duke today. I am soooo worried about him and his wife.
I layer my sweet potatoes in box with newspaper between each layer. Place it in a cool, dry, and dark place. When sweet potatoes are first dug their have a white, sticky, thick liquid that you will see if you cut into them. That is the sugar in the potatoes. I let them set and cure for about 3 weeks before cooking or canning them. Humm they are good.
Everyone have a nice day. now to the uglies

Re: Monday, November 4th
Good morning!
Suzette - yay for almost getting your SS done. If your elves do show up, please send them my way once they're done. Enjoy your last appt-free week.
Lois - I'm thrilled you're moving back to your sewing room! I want to say again - your DH is a keeper. Have a lovely PT - hope the PO isn't crazy.
Dolores - oh that is sad news, especially considering the circumstances surrounding his decline. I've already said prayers for the family and will continue to do so. I remember praying for Patrick - what a joy to see how well he is doing now. Did you post pictures of the cathedral quilt? That's a pattern that is on my bucket list.
Vicky - prayers being said for you to get over this nasty bug.
Redtop - prayers for your nephew - how scary. I hope you get to sew today.
Velda - hope your DH's numbers continue to hold. He does sound like a real sweetie. I'm glad you had such a lovely time at the show - another item on my bucket list. I hope it doesn't take too long to get 'moved in' . Poor Willie - our dog goes through withdrawals if her dad goes outside without her. I also have a box for my SS - unfortunately it's packed somewhere so I'm going to have to redo those items. I love the SS exchange.
Judi - maybe there's a class or a YouTube video you can watch? How exciting to get a smart phone. Hope your appt goes well.
Izzy - I bet your block is beautiful, cheating or not. I laughed really hard at your line of 'not needing your phone to take over the world'. HA! Glad you have a day off from work. I do all the cooking here as well - my DH's younger daughter from Alamosa and her DH and girls will be here. DS1 is working both that Thursday and Friday for extra pay.
Chriss - your chile verde sounds pretty darn good to me. Did you succeed in keeping the ban in place? Have a great day at work.
Maryz -boy you did have one exciting day. Did your neighbors think there was a fire? I hope you didn't get ticketed. How did it go with Warren and Lois? I so hope they enjoyed their outing. Glad you didn't have any wind damage. I forgot to tell y'all that DS2's area had two tornados on Halloween. The transformer outside their house exploded and they were without electricity for 18 hours. The tornados were both small, but still it seems rather late to be having them around. Enjoy your day.
Maryq - your weekend sounded fabulous! I had lasagna for breakfast one day last week - sometimes I think it's better as leftovers. Only four days of work this week - yay!
Kathy - a house afire - I love that saying! I had one of those hole planters - I haven't seen it in years but it sure came in handy. I buy mailing boxes at walmart, but they still seem expensive. Hope the weather is good for bulb planting.
Miriam - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your mom! She is such an inspiration. I'm thrilled that your bone med did not cause you a lot of aches and pains. Have fun in town today.
Shirley Mae - so lovely to see you! Glad the packing is proceeding. I'll go check out chitchat once I'm done here.
ScrappyPat - so good to see you here as well! You are doing so well - it does the heart good. Have a great day.
Tess - thanks for the info on sweet potatoes and your nephew. Hope your uglies fly by.
Our outbuilding was approved Saturday - yay! She apologized for the delay and said she'd meant to contact us two weeks ago. I almost wish she hadn't said that - the last two weeks the weather has been perfect, and of course today we have snow and cold moving in, but only for two days. Today we're headed for Costco and then back to keep unpacking. My goal is two boxes a day. I can't unpack the dining room yet because we're having a pocket door put in - we'll get that estimated today. Better go make breakfast - the handyman will be here soon to put up another ceiling fan. The people that owned the house before us must have loved sitting in the dark! OH - Cindyg - I'm going to order a Delonghi today as I have no idea where my irons are. I think my sisters might have given them to GoodWill!!! Have a wonderful day. xoxo Sharona

Re: Monday, November 4th
Suz - with all that's going on in your life right now I would think your studio would be your place of refuge.
Lois - how is your ankle? Can you walk on it?
Dolores - sorry about your SIL's & DD's loss. 9-11 certainly had a very traumatic affect on so many. I always think about that. It wasn't just the families of those who died who were affected.
Vicky - sorry about the bug. That's miserable.
Redtop - prayer sent up for your nephew. I'm really stupid about food prep (I hate to cook) so how does one go about curing sweet potatoes?
Velda - it was such a pleasure to meet you at the quilt show. I sure wish you could have stayed longer. You really missed a lot but you can see why I say every quilter should make it to the Houston show at least once in their lifetime, huh? And your DH is such a sweetie to go walking around with you with that bum knee. My knee didn't bother me this year - no, this year it was my hips and lower back but I managed - LOL. Now I can't wait 'til next year when you can come back for a couple of days. Did you post the picture?
Judi - I'm techno dumb, too. A lot of people our age are. To some it comes naturally (like my DH) but I'm such a dunce about it. Well, I'm a dunce about a lot of things but especially the techno stuff.
Izzy - are you talking about appliqueing curves by hand or machine? I hope Maryz has been able to help you. Sorry about your potato allergy. You will think I'm crazy but I'm allergic to peeling potatoes. Every time I peel potatoes I have a severe asthma attack. I can eat them, fry them, mash them, etc. but I just can't peel them. I wash them first and have even tried soapy water but that didn't help. I have also tried peeling them while running water over them and that didn't help either. It's the oddest thing.
Chriss - yes, you really do need to save for the Houston show and Jerry really needs to see the Space Center and y'all really need to visit with us. Well, you just need to get you hiney down here. Plan on it. And then y'all can stay long enough for us to trade husbands so Jerry will do the cooking for my Thanksgiving dinner - LOL LOL.
Maryz - girlfriend, I missed you so much over the weekend. I hope you will be at the Houston show next year. Hope hope hope! How did the dinner with Warren and Lois go?
Maryq - you need to plan and save so you can come to Houston and do it soon. I want you to make it down here before I expire.
Kathy - you and Maryz both have kids in Austin. I hope the kids were safe last week from the flooding.
I know I'm the world's worst picture poster. I have to actually TAKE the photos in order to be able to post them. I just don't. I'm so busy at the quilt show oohing and ahhhing that I forget to take pix. It wouldn't be any different than the few pix I've posted before. I hope Sue will post pictures though she didn't take many either. The thing is that there's so much to look at and I don't want to miss anything and I have my list so I'm looking for those things, too, so taking pix is the last thing on my mind. Usually after the show I'm kind of down because I have another whole year to wait but this year I'm in a great mood. I had a wonderful time meeting Velda and her DH and seeing Lyn again and SewSew (Ann) and her DD Victoria. I got the backing fabric for my Sunflower Dresden Plate quilt, border fabric for the Christmas quilt I'm working on and Sue and I got a pattern for a sort of 9-patch with applique and we bought the background fabric for that. I got two of Deb Tucker's rulers: the Hunter's Star ruler and the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler. I found some chalk pencils that I think will work just great and show up well and some Glide quilting thread, Thread Heaven stuff, a Cheri's Cool Tool kit (a bling thing) as a Christmas gift for my neice and of course I had to get a few packages of crystals for me me me. I got a little metal stand that I can hang 12" X 12" quilt squares on and I bought an applique pattern kit for the different seasons so I'll have something to hang on that hanger. Let's see what else....oh, I got some Misty Fuse and titanium machine needles. We visited El's booth but, as usual, she was surrounded by people so we just shopped in there and left. Vicki and I took the "Sampler" class which lasts for 2 hours. It's held in the ballroom of the convention center and there's about 20 different stations where you can go and watch demonstrations from different teachers and in there I got a pattern for a humongous rose (about 3' X 3') that would make a lovely center for a quilt or a fantastic wall hanging. We also watched a demonstration by Marti Michelle on her Pineapple quilt rulers. I got a set of three three sizes and it came with the pattern. I guess that's all - at any rate I can't remember what else. The only thing on my list I didn't get is a turntable cutting mat - NOT the Olfa ones. I want one with the ball bearings in it. I did see one but I didn't like the cutting mat he put on it so I didn't get it. I'll have to look on line. I'm so anxious to get started on some of these things. Actually, I've overwhelmed myself but I'm in a good mood about it. Yesterday I sewed most of the day and never got out of my pajamas. My DH just looked at me and shook his head - LOL. Can't wait to get home and sew tonight.
I truly hope you can ALL make it to the Houston show sometime and that you all get to fondle some fabric today.

Re: Monday, November 4th
Good Monday morning to all,
No baby news here yet. Victoria starts maternity leave tomorrow - her due date. I'm trying to keep my phone close at hand, but I've left it sitting at my desk, I've accidentally turned off the ringer. Boy, I regular land line phone was so much easier! (I too am not smart enough for my smart phone!)
I have a quilt top to pin together today if I have the chance. I really need to get some of these projects finished up. I have way too many in various stages on their way to completion.
Our late turning trees are starting to turn now so soon the trees will be bare, but this week will be golden.
Can't wait to hear how the rest of the quilt show gals did.
Miriam - Happy Birthday to your mom!
Maryz - so glad your skin is clearing up.
Sharona - glad you got the go-ahead on the building so that can get started.
Chriss - I must learn this secret to being banned from the kitchen! (I wish!) Except for baking - I'll still do the baking!
Cindyg - I had a pajama day on Sat.! I didn't mean to, but I started sewing and didn't get into the bathroom before David started painting it, so, what's a girl to do but spend the day sewing in her p.j.'s!
Elizabeth is going to the doctor today for her vertigo. Hope they can help her clear it up.
TTFN,
Karlene

Re: Monday, November 4th
I just spoke to the co-worker who I made the quilt for his daughter. She loved it. Her mom, dad (my-co-worker)and the new owner all cried. Of course my co-worker said he had something in his eye. Typical man
I agree about looking forward to my surgery. Then I won't have all these phone calls to make. I was looking at the info they need for the preop interview. Thanks goodness my previous surgeries have all been at the same hospital.
Again, thanks for all the nice wishes and kind words. They mean the world to me.
