Re: Tricker Treat Thursday October 31,2013
It sounds like it is a rainy day for several of us today. We are hoping that it lets up between 6-8pm as we have never been rained out, but we'll see what the Maker has planned. All those little dumplings are sitting there ready to go in the oven and they will be good whatever the weather. I do put a squirt of lemon juice on the apples and I do use brown sugar along with cinnamon and nutmeg. Oh, I love the smell of the nutmeg!
I guess Victoria had some braxon-hicks contractions yesterday so things are gearing up, but 11/5 is her due date so we'll see. I wonder how quickly the swelling will go away from her hands and feet??
Sharona - there is a craft day coming up out in Elbert, CO and that is where I got the idea for the apple dumplings. One of the churches has a group of ladies that make and sell apple dumplings every year and they are wonderful!
Chriss - I hope Marilyn has a wonderful time tonight.
Cindyg - I hope Katy isn't barring the door - she could get run over! Have a wonderful time!
Well, I'm off!
Karlene

Re: Tricker Treat Thursday October 31,2013
Happy Halloween, Everyone!
\\\\\\\\\ (that's from Scottie. Guess he wanted to say hello!)
LOIS - it's great that you're on the road back to independence! have fun handing out candy tonite! We haven't had a T-or-T'er in the 27 years I've lived in this house. Our driveway is too long and dark and SCARY!
MARY ROSE - are you getting part of that monster storm? It's hitting an awful lot of our forum friends, I think. How poetic, your remark to Cindy - "grabbed a star on her last boing". and so early in the morning, too!
VICKY - a fun day for you - you get to play with Jovanna! It's fun to make things for your loved ones. Especially if they ask! I'm sure your MIL understands and will enjoy a visit from your DH instead. Seems like she's been in the hospital an awfully long time. How is she doing?
KATHY - if T-T'g were a day early here, the big kids would dress up and go out again tonite! I bet your topper is beautiful!
CINDY - BOING!! Only one more sleep! Only 20 more hours!! Wish you were swinging by Traders Village to pick up yours truly. Don't forget your list!
JUDI - have fun with the kids! They must live very close to you.
CHRISS - The party at church sounds like more fun than Trick-or-treating to me. Here, it's always so dark and rainy and cold on Halloween night. Coats always have to cover the costumes. Parties are better. Pizza sounds quick and easy to me!
SUZ - Bless you for taking the time, trouble, and not to mention the expense to make a quilt to comfort a total stranger. Especially when you have BC yourself! "Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do to Me."
SUE - I'll miss you guys, too. I'll have to console myself with that big 40% off everything sale at my favorite LQS next week. The shop is about a 6,000+ bolt shop. I plan to go crazy in there! Didn't we take you to that shop last Aug? It's called Trains, Fabric, Etc.
KARLENE - your apple dumplings sound so good! Did you by any chance post your recipe in our recipe section? I just bought a bunch of apples and would love to do something different with them. Baby Hour isn't so far away now - only 5 days! Exciting!
I've been working on my tesselating star. It will be about 60" x 50" before the border goes on. I've never made a quilt like this before. It's like one big jigsaw puzzle! I have two big pieces of foam insulation covered in flannel for a design wall. and I knocked them over last night. I can't share here the word that came out of my mouth! and I had to pick up all those little pieces fast before word got out that there were fun things on the floor up for chewing grabs! Thanks goodness, I'm about 3/4 of the way finished now. I doubt I'll ever make one of these again!!
We're off to Seattle this morning to see if this new dermatologist can do anything for my hand eczema. We'll be gone most of the day, I think.
Think BOINGY thoughts today! Maybe we can channel Cindy and Sue and share their fun!

BOO and good morning!
Lois - I know you are determined to get your ankle back - I have no worries that you'll be dancing that jig as soon as you can. I love seeing the costumes of all the kiddos - enjoy!
Mary/Rose - sorry your joints are ailing you. Hopefully everything will warm up and you can dance a jig with Lois.
Vicky - you are your DMIL's Ruth. I so admire your dedication to her. I can't wait to see what you make for Shannon's new house. Have a wonderful day with Jovanna!
Kathy - oh your poor sister. I had forgotten she was a waitress - what a tough job. One of my DGDs had a strange bit of acid reflux - we had to hold her at a certain angle during and after feedings or she would 'defood'. Maybe your neighbors would like to have bags of candy left on their doorsteps, kind of a reverse trick or treat.
CIndyg - don't you love it when you have new stuff to do before vacation? Hope it doesn't take too long to figure out. BOING - what's the Ping??
Judi - have fun with the DGKs. My grandkids love Walmart. Hope the weather warms up.
Chriss - a flock of cows - that one made me spray my coffee. Love it! Hope you get to sew tonight. Are you still loving your new car?
Maryq - I love your thread idea! I have to wear make-up every day, otherwise I scare myself when I look in the mirror. The only time I don't is when I'm reallly sick. I think it's a grand idea for us to invade CIndyg's place. Have fun at work today.
Suzette - it's great to 'see' you from work! I don't know about presents and Eagle scouts - all I know is that it's quite an accomplishment. I'm touched you were able to give such a gift of comfort to your co-worker's daughter.
Sue - BOING BOING BOING! Are you taking your world-famous pecan coffee on the road? Have a marvelous time.
Karlene - I also love the smell of nutmeg. Well it won't be long now until you join the grandma club! I'm so excited for you.
Today DH is taking the car in for regular maintenance - he'll be gone all day. I ordered some stuff to finish up my SS gifting, and of course put it on DH's cc instead of mine. D'OH! I hate when that happens. Not that he cares, but for ten minutes we were trying to figure out where this charge came from, because the company used some really strange name to run through the credit card company. Oh well - he didn't care, but it sure gave our hearts a start. Have a great day! xoxo Sharona
Maryz - I KNEW I'd be dancing a jig on your head. Prayers going up for your appointment today. Give that little Scottie a smooch for me - I just love his little face!

Re: Tricker Treat Thursday October 31,2013
Good Spooky morning! It’s hauntingly foggy and overcast here; we had storms in the night. I’ve had a busy few days. Tuesday eve I went to DGS’s soccer game; he didn’t get to play but is on the roster for all of the playoff games. They won, and the next game is this evening. I’ll be going back unless the game is cancelled because the field is too wet after all the rain. The game Tuesday evening was quite exciting, even if #36 didn’t get to have his 15 seconds of fame.
Yesterday I went for a mammo; then they did my bone density scan. I got to have an hour with my DD for her lunch, and we went to Salvation Army to shop for ½-price bargains. I found a sweater and a fleece vest. She found several things as well. I’ll get my test results next week from my local doctor.
After all the wind and rain last night, we’ll be going to check the pecans today. They are falling, but so are the leaves; we’ll be taking rakes with us for raking and sorting. We will be getting close to the end of them. This is probably the best crop we’ve had in the 10 years that I’ve been with my DH. Some years we’ve gotten none.
Lois—great progress! You were really busy yesterday with your new-found freedom. Enjoy today!
Mary-Rosebud—When it turns cold, I want to go to bed and wake up in spring like an old bear in hibernation. I don’t do winters very well.
Sharona—I have to have my face on every day, too, otherwise it’s Halloween out of season. If I don’t have on make-up, like you, I’m sick. After Chriss picks you up, stop at Scrappy Pat’s, then at my house and pick me up on your way to Cindy’s…
Vicky—I hope you find time to do things YOU want to do! So sorry you are the only one who seems to care for your MIL, but I know how you feel.
Kathy—you might check… some places collect Halloween candy and send it to troops overseas or in hospitals. There may be a collection point in your area. The nursing home were MIL stayed used the candy for prizes in their bingo games and always accepted candy and dollar gifts for their activities.
Cindy—I don’t see how you can stay at work and stay calm—too exciting! Have fun!!!
Judi—Have fun with the grands… wherever you are. I love to see the little ones and will miss it tonight when I go to the soccer game. We have less than 10, so DH won’t be swamped when he stays home to take care of them. I told him he could have the treats left over… wonder if he will turn on the light and answer the door… Of course you should make a quilt for the young lady having her second round… HUGS!!! I got some pink fabric yesterday and hope to make some more blocks before too long. Meanwhile… hoping for a cure!
Chriss—I am the world’s worst with dates. Pick me up on your way to Cindy’s…
MaryQ—I like the sewing witch costume idea… Enjoy! My DD and the office and staff were dressing up in 50s outfits and handing out treats at the nursing homes.
Suzette—I know how you felt about your friend’s son becoming an Eagle Scout. The “little girl” who used to babysit for me with my DD is now a grandma! She is still Tina to me, and a teen-ager… when did she become a grandma? I just went to her wedding… I know your co-worker’s DD will love her quilt and it will be so special since you know what she is going through.
Sue—are you the anchor that keeps Cindy from boing-ing away? Have fun!!!
Karlene—your apple dumplings always sound so yummy! I think I can smell them baking…
MaryZ—hope there is fabric in your day as well as a dermo-doc. Oh, my! I’m sure you had some interesting words for Scotty… I feel your pain… ~~~~~~~~~ to him!
Everyone, have a wonderful day! Let the thread times roll…

Good Morning,
It's wet here today. Tonight we are going in to DS1's and DIL's to hand out candy. I have been instructed to get rid of all of it, even if it means driving around and throwing the candy at the T & T's as they are out and about. She bought suckers.
DGD has fifth disease and is now past the contagious part. Need to keep a close eye on the boys. She is going to be on Benadryl and some lotion to reduce the itchy part of it.
DH is off to the dentist. I am off to the sewing room. Can you hear the smile?
The maple trees are still covered with leaves. Every morning I am surprised at the different colors they have. I am also surprised they haven't fallen more then they have. It seems like everything was late this year.
A herd of turkeys and a flock of cows?? The question is does the stampede fly or run? Where would you find eggs and How BIG are they?
Sandy, off to sew

Re: Tricker Treat Thursday October 31,2013
Good morning!
BOING BOING BOING eve!
Got tons of uglies done around here - Michael is going over to his Dad's later this afternoon and I needed to get FIL's laundry done - it is! Ethan is down for his nap - so I am in the Batt Cave!
My little neighborhood is having a potluck dinner at 5 pm. tonight and then the little kids are going out to trick or treat. Ethan has his costume all ready - he is going as Mac Wilberg - the conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - it is a Tuxedo with tails! Sarah is loaning Ethan a baton and they are attaching her phone to the costume, so that it plays Ethan's favorite song - Beethoven's Alleuia Chorus from Christ on the Mount of Olives. Ethan is very good at conducting this piece - has the timing down and even the holds in the song! I am staying home and passing out candy.
I got the pillow sham all done - it was made from a crib sheet of sock monkeys - I have some leftover pieces that I am making a pillow case to match as well with his name on it too. The large blanket that I am turning the binding on is about half finished and I hope to have it out of my hair tonight or tomorrow. It weighs a ton!
So then it is on to my sewing - again! Robin is still waiting to be loaded up with the Christmas quilt I made - then I will add the light kit to the quilt to hang on the wall for Christmas.
On December 10th, all of the activity day girls will be here for a Christmas party, not just mine. So I will have to have the house ready and decorated. I am serving donut fondue - I will make donut holes and place them on skewers and have all the frostings - chocolate, vanilla and maybe maple so that the girls can dip the donuts and then put sprinkles on if they want. Also I will have hot chocolate. I found a craft for them to make too. All this in just 1 hour! LOL I know that Thanksgiving comes first - that is easy - the girls are doing it - all I have to do is have the house and the turkey!
The "they" have been threatening us with snow the whole week - so far only up in the mountains - but our temps have fallen to freezing and below at night. I still have a hundred tulips and daffodils to get in the ground!
Well I need to spend time with a needle and thread -
Have a great day with all the candy!
Hugs
Jana

Ok Day started at 6 getting ready: went p/u dad took him to louisville now thats a 45 min drive to dads another 45 min to louisville for the DR to say I dont see anything so no surgery {AMEN to prayer no cancer} they must of got it all on biopsy. 15 min later we drove back home. We got there early first of all and made it home at time of his original appt LOL. Mom was so out of sinck this morning she took two of her cancer meds so 10mg instead of 5. Thought she was taking bp meds. OH my. Called dr to make sure ok. No worries she was told.
Chatted a while and had coffee left at 1030. Got home put on wadders and jumped in pond to cleanout all plants and cut them back for winter been in 60 her past two days so water not too bad LOL cleaned up pond put net over for leaves about 20 ft too short so DH p/u more on way home.
Goat bedding, feeding, poop detail LOL all done. Chicks too. Now its almost 2; oh did I mention I cut back ornamental grass too and put in charlies barn he loves it:)) Yeah. Eating lunch now.
Thnx KS for sending us your yukky rainy weather LOL. Winds to be high tonight already around 25--thats a breeze for those KS kids:)) Severe weather moving in so Halloween moved to tomorrow night here. Suppose to have major thunder storms. I have been batting down the hatches. All lawn furniture up and anything that can blow tied down.
House is on top of hill so had all windows open to air it out while no one home. Just had to shut them due to rain moving in now.
Think I am headed to sewing room to clean and organize and do some sewing.
OH forgot stopped at post office and had a pretty in my box from zfatcat:)))) for my NH lap quilt project.
Very pretty and I am oh so thankful to all of you.
Well off to fabric land. Did you all see video that El had of fabric hording. LOL its tooo funny its on the video of Mini quilts with Sue I think Its one she did for sure could be color one. You got to watch too funny.
God bless and happy thoughts

The apple dumplings are really simple. I use a recipe I found online and just changed the white sugar for brown sugar, and I use 1/2 tsp on the cinnamon and nutmeg instead of the 1/8 tsp.

Hi...
I'm back from produce shopping. I got tons of stuff like butternut, beets, acorn, kale & chard. I'm going to loose weight even if I have to turn into a veg myself!!
On TV, TCM, has all scary movies. The old crappy kind. Love them!!
Now I'm going to finish basting & then sandwich the quilt for DD2, the one I'm going to machine. I guess I'm going to try safety pins.
Cindy-BOINGING-g!!...I bought just 'junk' candy....no chocolate! No sense telling you to have a good time it's a know fact you will.
Judi....we are supposed to get wind & rain this evening. Poor T&Ter's.
Sending prayers for Cindi & our Myles.
Chriss...that is a win win for you & Marilyn. I like the idea of the church festival.
Maryq...lol...you rolling around on the floor picking up threads!! BUT a good idea. Yes....lets go next year. I can line it up with a visit to my DD2 in Austin.
Suzette.....I made quilts for the children of Austin that lost everything in the fires. I sometimes think of them & their quilts.
She will surly love her quilt & feel the love & comfort in it.
Sue....is that you I see up there in the sky? Have a wonderful time.
Karlene...your dumplings sound so good. How many are you making? Well 11/5 is just 5 days away or anytime. How wonderful for you all.
Maryz....//////// to Scottie! WOW no TorT's in 27 years! I hope someone stops by tonight & I can just dump the bowl in their bags. then turn off the lights.
BBL.....Kathy

Hi Everyone.......got some good news & some not so good maybe....My visit to the heart dr. went well he said my heart was strong do have a narrowing around the Aorta going into the valve but we will monitor it at this time. Then on the Oncologist today he highly recommended that I do the Radiation so have to see that dr. on the 12 of Nov. due to the type of cancer I had, also wants me to have a body ct scan & bone test to make sure all those areas are clear. Sounds like I won't start the pills still later in Dec. Doing pretty good still getting tired easily but the surgeon that was to be expected.
