Re: Monday, October 14
Good morning!
Suzette - that is just awful. We're dreading our new rates - they aren't sending them out until the end of the month. I'm glad y'all had a wonderful day for your DH's birthday.
Lois - my fingers and toes are crossed for your appointment tomorrow - I sure hope you can lose the boot.
Mary/Rose - I understand your fear about the health insurance rates. Have a glorious day today.
Velda - I'm glad your bones are headed to warmer climes. It's supposed to start snowing here today. I get so annoyed at our political system. I was listening to the news about how people temporarily reopened one of the monuments in D.C. I was wondering if that's what it sounded like in France when Bastille day occurred. I think people are really getting fed up. I know I am.
Tess - so sorry for your not fun weekend. I hope today brings you some relief and joy.
Kathy - yay for the muffin recipe! I can't wait to see it. You are so sweet to make cookies for your lawn guy.
Judi - fingers and toes crossed for your doctor's visit also. I'm going to have to google your nativity set - it sounds really neat! Have fun baking bread with Miss Sophia today.
Chriss - aren't you just brilliant?! Along with inventing the crock pot, I think you've hit upon a cure for my sneezes - a caffeine enema for the nose. I had been plagued by the itchy/sneezy nose for days, and voila it disappeared right after the 'treatment'. You are wise to put the guns away. Out here, we here them going off a lot. We have a huge wild turkey flock - I wonder if people are getting ready for Thanksgiving. Oh those rowdy windows at Judi's house....! How wonderful for you to get to spend yesterday afternoon with your kids. You are indeed blessed, my friend! It IS good to be you.
Maryz - what in the world did you find to eat at the restaurant? If I even get a whiff of fish, I get nauseated. I do agree with you, though, and I'd suffer through it just to not have to cook or clean up afterwards. This whole insurance thing is really making my blood boil, so I shall say no more on the subject today. Other than what a load of crap!
Lucie - I like your advice. How wonderful that Tom had such a lovely birthday, AND that he wears what you get him! Have fun NOT doing uglies today.
We're headed up to the old house to do the final push. I'll be mopping the cement in the basement and putting stain on the woodwork. DH will be mowing and painting. If we really hit it today and tomorrow, we shouldn't have to go back any more. Have a great day! xoxo Sharona

Suz - this insurance business is so disheartening. We must all pay more and we're getting so much less or so I've heard. Don and I have insurance thru his employer but we haven't heard how much it will go up.
Lois - how is your ankle. Is it painful still?
Rosebud - I hope your insurance premium doesn't go up too much. I hear a lot of people saying just what you said - "I don't know what I'll do."
Velda - oh, our &^%$#@ politicians. I firmly believe that they should have to live by the same rules and laws that they impose on the regular citizens. Boy, wouldn't they change their tunes then? I'm still hoping you get to the Houston show. Actually I'm planning on it - I just know you're going to make it.
Tess - you just reminded me of that saying: Sometimes I wake up grumpy and sometimes I let him sleep. LOL LOL I hope you day gets better.
Kathy - that is so nice of you to make cookies for your yard man. I don't have to think about SS and medicare for a couple of years yet so I'm just ignoring it all.
Judi - I love Jim Shore, too. Maybe next year you can get the 3 wise men to go with your nativity.
Chriss - I'm glad you had such a good day with your parents and son. I LOL at your grannie. I can tell you love her dearly.
Maryz - I'm so glad you were treated to dinner. What did you have, chicken?
Lucie - yes, it's me that says getting old ain't for sissies. And it's so true. I swear I'd think I was dead if I didn't wake up with pain. It's either my knee or my hip/groin. Recently it's been the arthritis in my lower back. Makes it hard to put on my socks and tennis shoes. Ohhhh I would love the applique meeting.
Our weekend was finally a wet one and I am thankful for that except that we were on the road all day Saturday. We drove to San Antonio to pick up my DGS, Gavin, and move him back here. At our house we didn't get as much rain as they did west of us like in Austin. We do have a cool front coming in Tuesday night - YEA. I'm so sick of 90*+ weather with the high humidity. It's 100% humidity today. You'd think that would mean rain but we only have a 20% chance today. It's oppressive. Didn't get much sewing done and didn't get all my laundry done either. Being done all day Saturday kind of threw me off course. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it. I read about "Son" - my Godmother's only brother was called "son" by his parents and his sisters called him Sonny and it stuck until the day he died at about 80. I can't even remember his real name.
I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good Morning Girls
YEAH I'm ON VACATION! Woke to a cloudy morning with a bit of a headache and hope it passes quickly as I have a few more things to do to get ready for my babies to arrive tomorrow morning! The plan is to run to Joann for a few things, stop by work for a little bit to finish a project I started on Friday, then get groceries. After that it's home to run the vac one last time, and throw some clean sheets on my bed. Jen's flight leaves AK tonight at 9:45pm and they arrive in Minneapolis tomorrow morning at 6:00am. Son Kevin is picking them up at the airport, since he lives much closer than I do, but I will be at his house by 8:. Have my lipstick ready to smother them all with kisses.
Yesterday I quilted the top I had pinned the other day, and it turned out pretty good if I say so myself, have one more side of binding to sew down then I'll post a picture. Got the lawn all mowed and the mower put to rest for the winter, did a little dusting and inside cleaning too. Even room mate finally cleaned up her messes! Don't know why it took her 6 months to do it!
Wish I could stay and chat with y'all this morning, but I better get butt in gear and get showered and dressed and out the door soon, if I'm ever going to accomplish anything today.
You all will be in my prayers today!

Mornin' all.
No, I did not fall off the face of the planet! LOL Just got back from my quilting retreat yesterday. Sure had a good time. I so enjoy getting together with all of these women and just doing nothing but sewing, talking, and laughing. Also, it is so nice to have someone else do the cooking and cleaning! I managed to put together a quilt top from a BOM that I did a while back. Put together a tumbler quilt, too. Still need to get the borders on both. I just love looking at what other quilters are creating. The creativity and skill is just so amazing. Also love to see the different fabric/color combinations. It is all very inspiring.
Came home to some not so good news. Seems that DS#2 got an email from DGS's mother...she said she is moving back to WA and wants to get back into his life. Funny, she left the state, who knows when, and left her other two children in Foster Care here. They were taken away for neglect, or something. They are 16 and 15, I think. Needless to say, DS is a wreck. Oh, how I pray that she would just stay away and out of our lives. The thought of my precious DGS being drawn into her life and environment just tears me up. Would appreciate a few prayers if you happen to have any just lying around.
Well, guess I better get busy here...all of sewing stuff is sitting at the bottom of the stairs just waiting to be carried up and put away.
I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Hugs and prayers,
Mel

Hi, I had a nice msg to you all typed up and hit send and it went Poof. Msg came up that there was an error and they would look into it. What error.
Anyway, no time to retype. Sorry about that. Hang in there with all the ins problems. Praying that our gov will get it right one of these days and not punish us all for needing medical ins.
Mel......special prayers for your situation with your DS & DGS. May God bless all your family today and always.
Tess..... not sure why you had such an unhappy weekend, but this is Mon, a new week lies ahead, so prayers that life gets better for you. May God bless you and bring healing and hope to your family so you might smile again and enjoy life.
Gotta scoot. No more househunters this weekend. Rod is getting very upset. He started efudex treatment this weekend on his skin cancer for face, neck, ears, head etc. It is starting to turn red and it will be very painful but hopefully works. Thanks for all your prayers for Rod and I both. May God bless each of you in some special way today and always. Love and hugs, Shirley Mae

Good morning all! Been busy here with our dog Pepper getting a kidney infection. I have been having to give her an IV every morning so she doesn't get dehydrated. Amazing what we will do for our furry friends.
I feel for all of you having trouble with finding affordable insurance. That was one reason I waited to retire until last year when I turned 65 and was eligible for Medicare. The company I worked for had Great insurance and paid 100% of all my husbands bills which was a lot. Since I have retired they have cut out spouse insurance and cut way back on what they pay and raised the deductible. Medicare is not great, but it plus our supplemental policies we have are at least affordable to us. I am so afraid this Obamacare is going to get nothing but worse for our citizens!!!
Shirley - You and Rod are in my prayers. Hope he gets better soon.
Mel - I will keep your family in my prayers. Sounds like ex-DIL may become a problem. Hope not though.
Maryq - Have fun with your family visit. Enjoy the time. I am not sure about the messy roommate. I am not a "clean freak", but I do keep things at least picked up.
Cindyq - Have fun at the Houston Show and buy some fabric to fondle and think of me. Next year for sure for me. I am already planning. I know what you mean about the humidity. My son says it was one of the hardest things to get used to when he moved there.
Judi - Glad you could use the pinks I sent. I am sure your quilts are beautiful.
Wanted to let you know how wonderful all of you are on this chat room. We really care about each other. I am on a chat room for cross stitchers, but it is mainly about patterns and problems with projects. That is all right, but we have this one lady on there who answers just about everyone's questions. The only problem is she is wrong about 50% of the time so others of us have to go in and correct her. She thinks she is always right and from the sounds of her answers I am not sure she has ever even done cross stitching. I am seriously thinking about getting out of that chat. It really makes me appreciate all of you that much more.
Keep up the good thoughts all, and have a good day.
Sherry

Good afternoon - it is that here now!
Been busy with uglies this morning - I have laundry going - ours and FIL's and getting the rest of the house in order.
Our insurance is covered through our retirement - but DH had to go on Medicare - the company that we worked for is negotiating a new contract with the workers - whatever ever they pay for the co-pay is what we will be charged too - so I keep checking the news to see if they have settled - postponed the strike for one day - I hope that they get it settled!! So are 500,000 riders!!
Not much gong on here - been fairly quiet - it has been raining all week-end and today. Snowline is staying up in the mountains, but it is cold outside. We may get to about 45 for the high.
Ethan is napping - he has been a little bear today - when he doesn't get his way or I tell him no - he hits - that is not tolerated, so on the time-out chair for a couple of minutes each time. Hopefully a nap will help! He spent a bit of time there this morning.
DH has a appointment with the lawyer in a few minutes to go over FIL's affairs. We are short money each month for his care - the siblings will need to help make it up and the wife in CA is the one responsible for it. But trying to get that side to help is like getting blood out of a turnip! Short of suing in court I think, but we will see.
So I am off to do some sewing while little bear is asleep.
Have a great day - prayers, too!
Hugs
Jana

Re: Monday, October 14
Good afternoon...
The weather here is perfect! Later in the week it is supposed to rain and turn cool but today is perfect weather. 73 degrees with the sun shining.
I have been up the last 2 nights with Cooper. Ugh....he has an ear infection. He woke up Saturday night crying in pain. (he is not a whiner or crier) so we went to immediate care yesterday morning and they gave him 2 different ear drops, one for pain and the other is an antibiotic. Only thing is he was up at 4 this morning with it hurting. I don't know if the drops or helping or not. I kept him home today.
Chriss...sounds like you had a fun sunday! How did the interview go?
Suzette....sorry about the insurance. I have always thought insurance was a joke as far as cost and what they cover. I hope you don't have to work full time just to afford insurance.
Velda...you are so right about the increase in ss making your premiums go up too. It sure doesn't make sense to me.
Kathy...how nice of you to make cookies for your lawn guy! I hope he likes them. What kind are you making? I know the feeling of wanting to get out but not spend any money! With the kids it's hard to go to the grocery without spending more than I planned.
Grammie..I hope you get to clean those windows soon! Jim Shore has very nice things. I have a Jim Shore quilt angel. It's Christmas but I leave her out all year to enjoy her!
Izzy...I am a homebody. I like to know that home is close by. I have always been this way. I have been to Co Springs. It is beautiful. I too thought parts of the drive were very flat and boring but the other parts more than made up for it. I have yet to use my rotary cutter. How do you like you go baby?
Maryz...how nice to be treated to dinner. How is Mr. Scottie?
Miriam...I bought an apron kit at a yard sale this weekend and I thought of you and your mom. It was a dollar and the fabrics and pattern are all there. It is pink cupcake fabric with wide brown rick rack.
Well I have read the posts but need to do some uglies while Lucy is napping. I think her napping days are almost over. She will be 3 in November. It's hard to imagine that Cooper will be 5 next Wednesday! Where did the time go?
Hope everyone has a great afternoon.
Sharon

Well I have read the posts but need to do some uglies while Lucy is napping. I think her napping days are almost over. She will be 3 in November. It's hard to imagine that Cooper will be 5 next Wednesday! Where did the time go?
Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Re: Monday, October 14
Good late afternoon,
It has been a wonderful day - I have it off so I stayed in my nightgown for quite awhile, drank several cups of coffee and sewed some on flannel blankets. Then I went up to the city and poked around stores. Poor Victoria is having trouble wearing shoes with her swollen feet, so I found a pair of diabetic shoes and called her to see if she was interested. I kept a strong emphasis that this was just to get her through the next few weeks - that's all. She sighed, and said, "So this is what it's come to." But, she has shoes that will cover her feet until she gets her non-pregnant feet back again!
I did find a Peter Rabbit book last Friday, but I went to way too many stores before I did. That was the book my mom read over and over to Victoria when she was little. We had a nice shower for Victoria on Saturday and Rich stayed for the whole thing. I think he is as excited as she is. They have been so blessed - friends from our church have given then all of the big items for the baby.
I saw an email today from a local quilt shop saying that they had some places available for a tablerunner class that teaches some of Judy Neimeyer's techniques - for free. I have not taken a quilt class since Victoria was a baby, so I called and left a message to see if any of the spaces are still available. I might be taking my second quilting class ever!
Have a wonderful evening,
Karlene
