Judi - a baby dragon??? LOL Is that a lizard of some sort? I wish we'd get a really good rain. Right now we have an air quality alert going on - we have dust from Africa. For crying out loud!!! My doctor's scales always read higher than mine.
Maryq - you were busy on your day off. Steam cleaned the seats of your car - WOW you were industrious! And you cooked? What?

Good morning! We had another obligatory thunderstorm roll through around 2:30 this morning. I don’t know how much rain we got, but we actually do have enough for now. I’d be happy to send it south to Cindy, but this front seems to be stuck here causing unseasonable rains over and over.
I hope everyone has a super day! Let the thread times roll!

Good morning, good morning,
Another beautiful summer day here, and I'm choosing to be oblivious to Maryz's remark from about a month ago that shorter days are a sign that winter is coming! *fingers in my ears, singing 'La-la, la-la, la!'*
I got a strip quilt top together for my nephew yesterday and have the strips laid out for my niece. She loves yellow, but I only have a few yellow strips, so I will try to strategically place them so they appear prominent. (I missed my machine!)
Miriam - I would not have the patience your DH has for dealing with the renters/rentals. Glad you were able to spend some time with your mom. I so admire how she is always working on something. My mom put her machine away and got rid of most of her fabric/craft items before she was 70. It leaves her with reading as her only hobby.
Maryz - Looking forward to hearing when you get another sheltie! Once we get moved west, I think I would like to get a dog - the trick will be talking David into it since we have been in agreement these last 25 years 'No Dogs' - and now I'll be changing my tune!
Sharona - sorry for your x-mas block frustration, but it is always fun to visit the LQS! What did you do to celebrate having your house/schedule back to normal?
Kathy - prayers as you head to Long Island.
Cindyg - That is so neat that you'll be listing your DH's rebuilt/restored featherweights!
Mary/Rosebud - I love the DWR you are working on and am anxious to see the finished top! What will it's finished dimensions be?
When my niece and nephew were here, they saw a zucchini at church that was brought to 'share' with whoever wanted one and they said they love zucchini bread and had not had it in 'forever'! So, trying to be a good Aunt, we took the zucchini home and I went to my small-town Iowa cookbook and got the recipe for chocolate zucchini bread out. I stuck the butter in the microwave to melt it and decided to substitute applesauce for the oil. The kids were eager to help and were hovering over the whole mixing/measuring process. I read back the recipe several times to double check myself that I had put everything in it, and then stuck it in to bake with the kids anxiously awaiting the buzzer to signal that the bread was finished. It finally came out, cooled off, and I cut off an end piece - something wasn't right. It wasn't bad, but it was very moist and dense. They each ate a piece, said it was good, but did not want any more. The next morning I went to warm up my coffee in the microwave and was wondering who left the cup in there the night before. And what was in that cup??? OH! It was the melted butter that never came out of the microwave to be put into the batter! That is a typical 'Karlene' thing to do!
Have a great day,
Karlene

Chickie - sorry about all your rain and I really do wish you could send some to us. I would love to feel soppy for a reason other than sweat!
Karlene - I have noticed this week that the days are getting shorter. The sun isn't quite up when I get up now. I can't wait for winter....but then we don't have brutal winters here.
Back to work. Man, I wish I was rich instead of so good lookin'! ROFLOL That way I wouldn't have to work and I could stay home and quilt in my mansion with the huge sewing studio. ***sigh***

Re: Wednesday, August 7th
Karlene—my mom didn’t get to begin quilting until she was 70!!! She worked as a cook and food service supervisor for the state hospital until she was 65, then my sister had her being housekeeper, nanny and delivery person to her two kids until they got drivers licenses. In between taking care of her aunt and then her sister, she was able to start her quilting and has never stopped. She sewed for us girls when we were growing up, and she saved all the scraps for her “some day”. You cook like I do—only you had an excuse… all that “help”!!! I have no one to blame but myself when things don’t come out as they should… read on.
I have muffins baking now. Mom asked if I’d make her some muffins for her breakfasts, so I made oatmeal-raisin muffins. Hope they turn out well. As you can imagine, Mom was a fantastic cook so I’m always unsure of my offerings to be critiqued. I’m sure DH will be going in to the rental, and I really should be helping him, but I’ll have him drop me at Mom’s on the way. The rentals will be there forever (it seems), but Mom might not be here forever as much as I’d want her to be.
I have another zucchini to shred, and I’ll probably make bread and muffins from it.
The muffins are out and look pretty good. DH and I will try them with brunch…
Cindy—I’d love to share this rain now. I think your DD sounds like so many people… “Make a quilt for…”. They have no idea of the time and expense it takes to “whip out a blanket” for them! Is he the kind that would take care of it, or would it end up under the truck when he changes the oil? We put in a taller bathroom faucet. I sure like it. In the old house, DH had put the “older style” kitchen faucets in the bathrooms for extra room.
Vicky—have fun with your girls day!!!
Time to start brunch. DH will be here in a few… I’ll try to check back later…

Re: Wednesday, August 7th
Good morning from the beautiful mountain west! The sun is shining - right in my eyes, here at my computer!
Not much going on here today - thank goodness! It is a quiet day for me - I can hid down here in the sewing studio and no one should bother me.
Sarah took my old LA home to her house and put it up last night - I thought that we had lost a piece in the move - but we found it - it had stuck itself to another - so they looked like they should have gone together. But all is well now - didn't even lose any of the bazillion screws and nuts wither! LOL
Aaron sold his little truck - got a nice chunk of change for a 26 year old truck and that will help pay off the loan on the car that he totalled - and then he will still be ahead of where he was by about 1000 dollars. The totalled car will get sold to the pick and pull junk yard this week - they just has to get the clear title to it from the bank. It was old too - about 15 years old. So he will live with just one car for a year or two - making payments of what the old totalled car was to themselves instead of the bank. That will make them a nice down payment on new little car for his wife.
So I am off to finish up a couple of projects that are needing to be done - now!
Have a great day
Hugs
Jana

Re: Wednesday, August 7th
Hi, everyone,
DH had our internet down this morning. "His bad", he said. Then I got involved in other things. I have my DD#1's Christmas quilt half-sewn together. Taking a quick break now.
KATHY - hugs and prayers to you and your DD!
CHICKIE - thoughts of bumbershoots to you!! Ya gotta be careful what you wish for! lol!
KARLENE - when you move, you need to get someone lined up to "gift" you with a puppy. No need to bother your DH with the details of how the dog came to be. **wink**!
I've read all, but too many to single out.
BBL!

Getting accustomed to viewing all quilt items on ebay looking at selling what I make from Eleanor Burns books, patterns.
