Good morning, it's really warming up here.

Marilyn had a sleep over and the girls were going to sleep in a tent in the yard.. they weren't out there a half hour before they got scared and came in the house..reminded me of the times my grandpa would set up the pup tent and we would sleep outside with him on a cot in front of the tent.. we'd always end up in the house and he would be on the cot all night... I miss my grandpa.

Traci, prayers for DD and the baby.

Scrappy Pat, I looked at your pets on FB.. strange eyes that dog has, is that normal or is he rare.... they are all pretty,I enjoyed all the pictures, you have a nice family.

Kathy, glad things are going smoothly being around the ex.. hopefully DD will be given the all clear and you can be home soon... glad she's going through her stuff, if she's like us she has it stored in the attic just incase she needs it one day.

Maryz.. did you get all your "day to yourself" stuff done the way you wanted to? don't worry, I won't be painting...

Izzy, cute goats.

Tina.. woo hoo, a boy.. bet Jaz has a fun time playing mommy when he's born...

Maryq.. I saw a churn dash that had a larger churn dash block in the middle then there were borders of churn dash's all around separated by a small border of solid fabric.. so it went big dash, small maybe 2 inch solid fabric, then a churn dash border then repeat steps two and three till it's big as you want... what does the white on white look like that you want?

Chrissy, was the ice on the floor at the store? hope the toe feels better

O'Dorothy, I haven't touched my scrappy square quilt since I sandwiched it.. Scrappy Pat is making the same quilt.. when I get my Christmas swap blocks done I will tackle the quilting...glad Nicky will be there soon, what fun.. hope he's still a cook.

Judi, glad you're back to normal.. did you get inspired at the quilt show?

Chickie.. cool story about your grandma wanting you to be still in the hot heat.. she didn't want you to get over heated... something the things we remember...

Suzette, sad your friend won't enter the quilt show because her hard work outshines others.. and that others are so eager to win they want to tilt the scales... I hope she changes her mind and enters.. glad you're entering... it's a beautiful quilt.

Lois.. I wish it would rain here.. the sky needs a good rinsing off.

Teresa, for someone who hasn't had much going on lately you sure have a lot going on...lol

Carole.. the tile tour sounds neat.. we have a company around here that makes granite counter tops.. I would love to see that place one day, it's only about 1 1/2 hours from here.... sounds like your afternoon with your son was fun...I love a good Son day.

Vicky, happy graduation party, have cake for me.

Izzy, sounds like you are making a fashion statement.. blue hands, pink boots and a mumu.. one hot mamma...lol

Maryz.. nice of you to give the weeds a reprieve...

Jerry is out side defending us against ants.. he walks around while watering the garden and if he finds a hill or trail he "feeds" the ants.. keeps him off the streets...lol

we are having an employee bbq this afternoon at work.. the company I work for sponsors the "Save Mart 350" car race here in Cali...I work for their warehouse, so any food that comes back uncooked after the race we have a bbq.. not sure what it will be but it will be good...

hope you all have a super day, I need gas so am off to work now..

Suz - apparently a few people have won because they are friends with the judges. That's certainly not fair. A few bad apples can ruin a whole bunch, as they say. Whoever said that were probably just jealous. I admire you for having the guts to enter. I sure don't.

Lois - I hope you don't get caught in the rain. Going to the store is bad enough but it's really the pits when it's raining.

Teresa - I hope Rob doesn't get laid off. Speaking of prisons, Texas had it's 500th execution since the death penalty was reinstated in 1982. It's like the comedian, Ron White, says, "If you come to Texas and kill somebody, we're gonna kill you back." I'm glad you discovered your sister's quilt wasn't to her liking before you got it all done.

Carole - I vote for finding a LQS today!

Vicky - is your pool large enough to swim laps? Swimming is one of the best exercises there is and you can stay cool doing it. I wish we had a pool. ***sigh***

Izzy - what a picture of you I have in my mind - pool tint hands, pink boots and a mumu. HOOT Glad leaves in your pool was all the damage you had.

Judi - WOO HOO a quilt show! I'm so glad you are OK.

Maryq - I have 4 Featherweights now. My DH has one that he is going to paint red and he has two others that he will use for parts.

Maryz - there is a book shelf thing at Hobby Lobby that I could put in my entryway to display my machines on. I'll think about that.

I'm at work so must get busy. Getting my hairs cut after work then going home to fix dinner and maybe work on the laundry. That dang stuff never ends! Oh, I ordered border fabric for my Sunflower Dresden Plate - it's sunflowers on a dark royal blue background so I also ordered a dark blue to use as my sashing. I hope it'll look OK.

I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good morning all! Man you guys really hit the morning running!

I actually got some applique done last night. I'm working on block #7 (Fruitbowl) of the Applique in a day while watching Miss Marple!

I'm also trying to figure out a quick pattern for a tornado quilt for the tornado victims in Moore, Oklahoma. I've got one quilt done, red, white & blue using the disappearing nine patch design, I really like that. I may use it again, as it was so quick. This one will be more feminine. Any ideas?

Sending love & hugs

Good morning all,
Yesterday and today have been beautiful. So glad it is not winter! I have been a slug here so not much to report.

We did have a cute baby raccoon on the porch last night. I usually would rather see raccoons at a distance, and I'm not sure how this little one ended up on our porch, but he kept peering in the door and just walking around exploring everything (he was very vocal) until he decided to get down and then he went head first off the highest part, (3') very slowly, we could just see his little toes holding on to the edge of the porch until he could stretch no more and he plopped into the bedding. Very, very cute. When I was growing up we had a neighbor who had a raccoon as a pet in the middle of Denver!

Hope everyone has a great day,
Karlene

Good morning! I was exhausted last night and didn’t wake up as early as I’d planned to go berry picking. Sorry, Girls, I had no problem falling asleep! I ache all over today from the stretching, bending, and hose dragging from the watering. I’ve decided that yesterday was so much work for 8 cups of berries that I’ll wait a day or two, hope it gets cooler, and perhaps there will be more berries ripe… I watered the flowers that dry out in a day, and I’ll water everything again this evening. DH will probably take my hoses away when he reads the meter and figures this month’s water bill…

I slept right through DH getting up and prowling around the house. I woke up, and his pistol was on the table beside the bed... wasn't there when I went to bed... He said he heard something in the night that sounded like someone going through drawers in the other room... Apparently it was the refrigerator making all of it's crazy noises... I didn't hear a thing!!!

Suzette—best wishes to you on entering the fair!!! When I start doing crazy stuff, I know it’s time to quit!!! I have made some awful mistakes when too tired.

Lois—rain would be wonderful… here!

Teresa—hope your sister will love her quilt! Hope you can get some rest!!!

Carole—I probably would have had a tile or two as a souvenir, had my DH frame it and made a trivet or hung it on the wall to remember the day. I am sure hand-made tiles were probably out of my budget, too…. Tile? FQs? Yardage? Those are the questions… P.S. I looked up the prices… delete the FQ question!!! They are beautiful!!!

Vicky—I guess that is one of the advantages of this hot climate—very few slugs. In Missouri, I would put out a pie tin “sunk” in the soil with beer in it… the slugs would be drawn to it and drown… Also poured salt on them when giant ones were on the sidewalk. Slimy critters!!! Hope you find some pool time!!!

Izzy—what a wild night you had!!! Love the Smurf image!!! The “pond tint”… is that safe for fish? My DH thought if he could run some dye in our pond we could check the back of the dam to see exactly where it is leaking for placement of next round of Bentonite. I think this first application has helped somewhat. So glad to hear all is well after the storm!!! Have a fun day with your DD today!!!

Judi—good to hear you are taking care of yourself! If anyone can figure out why weeds grow better than flowers or crops… I definitely need to make some bread today! I’m not a fan of paper piecing. I hate ripping the paper off the back!

MaryZ—Go for it with your quilts!!! Your girls will love the Halloween placemats and runners!!! What a good mom you are!!! Photos when you finish!!!

Chriss—enjoy the BBQ!!! That beats having to fix a lunch! I remember summers at Grandpa’s and Grandma’s with my cousins… Grandpa would build a huge tent in the side yard with his ladders and tarps. It had my aunt’s lawn chairs and the occasional overstuffed chair. We kids slept out there. Usually my aunt stayed with us and told us her stories about the flower fairies. It was a great time! Wonderful memories!!! I’m wondering NOW if Grandma didn’t want us to be quiet in the heat for HER sake!!!

Cindy—hope you get the display case for your beautiful Featherweights!!! I’m looking forward to seeing your Dresden sunflower!!!

Traci—what about a summer porch quilt in florals? They go together pretty quickly. I also like the disappearing 9-patch—lots of variety in settings and using repeating blocks or scrappy…

Debbie—stay cool and hydrated today, too!!! It’s already 80 here as well… Do you have the humidity we have?

I think I’m off to get more coffee and maybe start my bread while DH is at coffee… oh, and the floors could definitely be swept… “Woman’s work is never done”—truer words were never spoken…

Enjoy today!!!

Good morning y'all!1

On the heat index - I have y'all beat - at 7 this morning it was 80 and climbing! A/C will be on shortly!! It was beautiful last night - took a ride and got dinner and sat out and watched trains go by - just the right temp to do that!

Well, DH and I have been going back and forth on the flooring for the basement - rug won't work because of the weight of the LA, and the floor I thought that we decided on works, but we have to level the cement that is down there now and doing it just on my side would cause a tripping hazard coming from the train side - so I gave in - just the cement - so my fancy side is being downgraded - I will put large area rugs in the sewing and family area - so there will be some nice-ities there - so I informed DH that there was no doubt that since I have caved on everything that I wanted down there in finishes that he had no choice in the size of the LA - it will be the big one! He agreed! I will get some of the added extras too! MEN!!!
The cement has been sealed - so the dust is minimal already.

When I talk to Sarah later today - we will get started on the masking of the pipes - DH wants to be sure he knows which is which, and start the painting of the ceiling - and the walls. I have some very pretty blue and yellow fabric for the curtains - they will be just valances and so the walls will be yellow.

This all means a trip to Lowes - paint, power sprayer, order the cabinets for my space and the area rugs. Then a trip to IKEA to get the storage shelves for the baskets of fabrics and to Hancocks for the headliner fabric for the design wall - can you say I am spending money!!! ROFLOL Later we will start the furniture hunt for upstairs as all the old stuff is going to the basement - ASAP!!! I do have ideas already of what I want for upstairs.

Also on the list is a couple of new laptops - so I have a computer downstairs as well as upstairs - my sewing machine embroidery module needs a computer hook-up - plus DH needs a new work one too.

Don't worry - I didn't rob a bank - we have been saving money up and have been waiting to get to this point since we moved.

So my little one isn't here today - that means I am headed off to the second favorite shop here in the valley - LQS is first - second is Lowe's!

Oh yes, Matt and family are very happy campers this morning too - the lot where their new house is being built has the markings to be excavated for the start of the home building! This is about 3 weeks earlier than they expected and did not know that the city had approved the building permit! He is estimating that the home will be done and closed about November 1st! I am taking them a "Passed the Permit Process" gift - moving boxes and tape!

Well I am off before it gets to hot - LOL
Have a great day!
Hugs
Jana

By the way, I couldn't sleep either last night around 4 - just couldn't breathe - allergies are terrible!!

MaryZ - OK. I'll enter my fair if you enter your fair. The ones you mentioned are beautiful.
CindyG - The fair is in August. So, I still have time to chicken out. I am really trying to go out of my comfort zone. I just signed up for the quilting retreat I talked about the other day. Going by myself.
