Good morning! Thank you all for your suggestions for Mom a phone… I will talk to my sister about either adding a cell phone to either of our plans or getting a Jitterbug phone with the big numbers for her to use in case of emergency. Her LifeLine (the “help-I’ve-fallen-and-can’t-get-up) necklace that she wears won’t work if the phone service goes out in a storm, is cut, or gets water in the lines. She doesn’t drive (thankfully) or have a car any more. I spent much of the day with her yesterday. I fixed our lunch; we looked at fabrics and had a nice time. I took in my guess-the-baby’s-date prize package from MaryQ, and she really enjoyed seeing the beautiful fabrics, reading her note, and hearing the story of how I came to have won. I also had some batik fabrics that she enjoyed telling me what to make with them! Scrappy Pat had sent her some FQs, and she was delighted with them and has decided to make a doll quilt with a figured FQ, border it with another, and add some of my stash for another border and backing. I’ll post a picture when she makes it. First, she is making some pot holders…

We had some rain in the night—needed for my flowers on the back wall. They drain quickly and dry out quickly in the full sun. When I returned from town yesterday, DH (hole digger) helped my plant a rosebush and three creeping phlox plants—all were on sale half-price! Then we went to the creek and got a load of flat rocks to lay around them and protect them from the mower.

Suzette and East Coasters—hope you all didn’t get too much rain and bad weather from the storm that went up the coast! I know your quilt will be beautiful and loved!!! Dinner sounds delicious!

Sharona—I think we are supposed to get some of that heat when you are finished with it! That’s the worst part of summer… only by the time it comes here, it has a load of humidity with it!!!

Kathy—I love hand quilting! I need more time to get mine done, too! My eyes tend to close when I sit down on the sofa!!!

MaryZ—so sorry for Cindy’s friend Ed and what his wife is going through… Put me on the transplant list with you and Sharon, too! Best wishes with your dental surgery tomorrow!!! Give Snickers a scritch from me and a howdy from Odie and Tinker Bell!

Chrissy—Congratulations to MO!!! Know you are busting at your seams as you watch him graduate!

Judi—sounds like fun at your house!!! I am thinking maybe pancakes here today for a treat… Some little things that look so simple (girls’ dresses) can be more difficult than an adult size! Good luck!!!

Pat—have fun with family!!!

Jana—your weather goes from one extreme to another, too. It seems like only last week you had snow! Too funny about the remote! I found ours outside where DH had laid it before he went off with his DS one day! It’s not only the little ones that lose them!!! DH is such a guy—he doesn’t lay the remote down but holds it while watching TV. Is that a guy thing? I find a channel, then the remote is down and I’m working on something… Half the time on taped things I forget to zip through the commercials when I’m sewing. Will have to check out the hexi block!!!

MaryQ—you may find you miss the kitties when your roommate leaves… They are sweet. I miss mine. I hope you find time to curl up with that book!!!

Vicky—I hope that you will have a blessed day of peace today!

Happy Sunday!

This seems the best place to say hi. I just joined the community. No idea why it took me so long. Quilt in the Day was how I started quilting many, many many (okay I'll stop now) years ago. Still my go to place for patterns and ideas.

I am an attorney who does family law. With all that stress, I destress by quilting. I don't have a lot of room right now, so I mostly do baby and lap quilts. But hey, they are small, so they actually get done. Now off to quilt.

Hi All, I am back.....Kids have left had a nice visit...son did a "honey do" for me. Thinking about reading this afternoon for awhile then might take a nap, I did a stupid thing yesterday actually it started on Fri but I didn't connect the two till last night I started getting a horrible backache while garage sale, finally gave up on that went to my daughters figure I could sew which I did some, cut out some lounging pj's fot DH back kept hurting worse so went home put heat to it and took some meds, it is doing better today but still be careful. I think it was the shoes NB athletic shoes I had worn them Fri a little and noticed my back hurt some but didn't put 2 & 2 together till last night guess that is the reason they were at the back of the closet guess its time to go shopping for new ones.

Maryz......I am with you on Morillo altho the other guy sounds pretty cool too Rangerman. I got on my Kindle last to read a bit and my
DH had downloaded one of her books for me that I hadn't read he also said that she is coming out with #20 in Nov.
Chriss.....I am not to found of the F word in her books either but just kinda skim over them.

I may get up later & try to sew on the pj's. see how back is doing.

Suzette so happy for you that you got the Jacobs Ladder done. Anxious to see picture. I've toyed with the idea of doing one. I like the pattern.

Got to run the furr babies are calling me need to go to do their thing.

Have a great day everyone.

Afternoon quilty peeps. It is looking to be dreary day, all day, here in the Great PNW.

Yesterday was just gorgeous. DGS played in his new pool for quite a while. First thing he did this morning was ask if he could get in the pool. I told him it was too cold today, but of course, he knows better! It is only in the mid 50's today so far. Anyway, to avoid a dispute, I told him he could if he wanted to. So, he geared up with his goggles and went out....he didn't stay very long! LOL I told him, "See, Gramma does know a FEW things!"

No sewing going on around here this weekend, but I did make a batch of soap. We will be heading to town here in a few minutes. Need to go to Home Depot and probably WalMart. I can't see going all that way without stopping at Long John's/KFC for some of that "banned" food, too!

Welcome aboard Eplawyer. Hope to see you around often. These are the best invisible friends a person could hope for! LOL

Well, need to go get my hair dried (just got out of the shower) and head to town.

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the day.

Hugs,
Mel

Thanks for the warm welcome. I knew I would get one here. I went to the shop in San Marcos once back about 15 years ago with niece who was about 4 at the time. She had just finished helping my mom make me some cross stitch quilt magnets so she knew her patterns. We walked into the shop and my niece sees this beautiful quilt on the wall and shouts "Look Grandma, card trick." I am mortified. But the nice ladies just laughed and said "Yep, it's card trick." Quilt in a Day had my undying loyalty from then on.

Suzette, I live in Silver Spring, MD. So about an hour from Fairfax.

Purrfect Lady, I just finished a broken dishes variation for a charity baby quilt. Well the top is done. Now to quilt it. I mostly make quilts for charity now. More on that when I have been here for a bit.

Good afternoon! I’ve been weeding, planting, weeding, and… picking peas! We didn’t get a lot yet, but there will be enough for DH and I for dinner… YUM!

Eplawyer—Welcome to you!!! This is a great place, and everyone is an instant new friend! Hope that you and Suzette may get to meet up before long! I look forward to seeing photos of your quilts! Gotta love the grand-children!!! Art Linkletter knew all about “the mouths of babes”…

Mel—It’s 85 degrees here, and just thinking about going swimming at 55 degrees gave me goosebumps! They always seem to have to figure it out for themselves that Grandma was right! Enjoy that “banned” food!!! It is too, here, but just a little splurge sometimes… yum!!!

Pat—glad you had a good visit! I usually don’t have problems with New Balance—that’s too bad! My mom has made several Jacob’s Ladder quilts. She made a beautiful scrappy one.

I have to work on my floors now. I stopped for a bit for a cup of tea, now the work must begin again. Tomorrow I go early to take a DGS to camp departure site and bring home a DGD for a week! We should have FUN!!! It just means getting up early tomorrow a.m. They have been on vacation for a week, so they can’t go back to work and take off time to do the camp delivery. Oh well—that’s what grandmas are for!!!

Have a great evening! Again, welcome to you Eplawyer!!!
