Good Long Weekend Saturday Morning! After I watch El's show this morning I'll get dressed and head out for Free Motion class number 2 (of 3). After class I'm having lunch with 1 or 2 friends from school. The one for sure is my favorite substitute and good friend. Our maybe friend is my favorite kindergarten teacher. Unfortunately, the kindergarten teacher has been under the weather with a bad headache, so she's iffy. She went to the urgent care yesterday after school and got a shot and some pain pills, so maybe she'll be up for lunch with us...we hope!

Baby Caleb is coming home tomorrow, so everyone's very excited! Thank you all for your prayers, once again, they worked! I'll also be visiting Mom tomorrow. She's still in skilled nursing, but doing very well, so I'll be telling her that this past week I had a couple of phone calls from the people where she lives. We've all agreed she needs to move to another apartment so that she will be closer to the assisted living office (so they can easily pop in more often and give her extra attention) and also so she will have a fully accessible handicapped bathroom...not that she needs it right now. We thought she'd never walk again, but she's walking 200 feet with her walker now. HOORAY for physical therapy!!! I stopped in and saw her new apartment and it's much lovelier than her current apartment, so that's a little bonus, as well. She has a prettier view in her new apartment, and it's just been renovated, so it's like new. Best of all, they'll have her all moved in before she even gets over there.

Meanwhile, school ends next week, so I've been crazily finishing up study projects and starting to pack away books and supplies. There are only 3 more days of school this year!!!

GRAMMIE, cold and sunny sounds lovely. You made me decide to have Irish oatmeal for breakfast, too! It's my favorite, but a rare treat since it takes so long. My LQS owner told me a special way to prepare it by toasting the oats in butter before adding the water, so I'm looking forward to trying that!

KATHY, sewing and a birthday party...what a lovely way to spend a rainy day.

SUZETTE, you sound very productive! I would guess the same as you guessed for repairs, but I'll be watching for the suggestions from the experts!

CHRISSY, what a sweetheart Mikey must be, and what a good big brother Mo must be1! SNOW at the end of MAY???

MARYZ, I hope you made it to lunch. Are you back on the road again? It seems like you just got home...or is that just because I've been away from the forum so much?

MIRIAM, what a wonderful collection of plants you found! My neighbor has the most beautiful light pink bougainvillea I've ever seen. We used to have a bright fuschia one, and the school where I first worked had a gorgeous coral colored one.

SHERRY, I think I'd just give your husband a set of John Wayne videos instead! That cross stitch sounds daunting, but I know it will be amazing when it's done! You'll have to post pictures of it for us.

SHARONA, Chrissy has snow and you're beating the heat! What weather we're having this month! I hope you get that garden ship shape before it gets too hot.

JANA, a beautiful day, a block party, and rekindling your friendship with your sewing machine...sounds like a perfectly idyllic day to me. I need to show my sewing machines how much I love them very soon. It's time for some serious oiling activity!

Well, in the middle of all this, I made that Irish oatmeal and ate it. OH MY, was it delicious! The trick is to melt some butter in the pan and toast the oats in it before you add the water. I'd never heard of that, but boy was it good!!! Now it's time to get dressed and head out for that class. It's looking overcast here, but I expect it will burn off in a little while.
Wishing everyone a satisfying Saturday,
Jodie

Jodie that is a good idea except he has every John Wayne western DVD there is. His favorites are El Dorado and Rio Bravo which he has watched at least 150 times each. So you can see he is a BIG John Wayne fan, but thanks for the suggestion.

Good afternoon from chilly, breezy, sunny, SW. Pa....We woke up to the 30s and frost on the roof....Jim was so worried about the garden but he sprayed everything early and it seems nothing is frost bitten...Now to worry about tonight....He's on his way to check all the plants at the cemetery......

Chickie, your plants sound gorgeous...I have a tendency to get carried away when I'm buying plants (flowers)..Jim isn't a flower person and always says, just buy things you can eat....So when I'm plant shopping, I leave him at home......

Normally this would be major "ugly" day but we just kind of taking it easy, minor ugly....I had a call from DDIL from N. Carolina and the high school graduation is over...She said, DGS looked so handsome and will be sending me pictures...This is the 1st graduation I've missed and I felt so bad...

There's not much happening in this neighborhood...I've been doing a lot of reading and cross stitching...I have a niece getting married in August and I'm making her a sampler...This is what I do while watching the Penguins...
And speaking of the Pens, they took the series and are moving on to the next...So exciting...........

Reading about the Irish oatmeal has made me hungry....I think that and a cup of tea would be perfect for lunch.......

You all have a great day.................

Hi...

I never got to sew today. I ended up reorganizing closets because I wanted to put more in them. When I get home from the party I'll sew. I won't be there that long. I'm not the most social of people when I don't know anyone....can never think of what to say.

Good afternoon all,
I've been working on uglies all day so that I can sew with a clear conscience! I just have two surfaces to sort through where things get dumped but I needed a break!

I have 2 quilts to sew the bindings to the back that I will work on tomorrow as the races are on. I have blocks for 2 quilt tops ready to assemble and a 3rd almost ready. And then there is fabric that has been set aside for an easy quilt, and I think I'm going to go ahead and cut and assemble that. I don't understand these bursts of creative energy, but decided to make hay while it lasts!

David about floored me yesterday. He bought me a pair of dress shoes that he thought I'd like! He is a wonderful guy, but not touchy/feely and not fashion conscious so i was really surprised - and the shoes are cute! What a guy! He is so much better at getting things for me than I am for him.

Okay, back to those two surfaces to sort and throw!

I just got back from lunch with my nursing buds. and I had a PM from a gal on Ancestry.com. She had info for me that floored me! I always thought my great-great grandmother, Permelia, was buried in NY state in Rexville. Turns out she migrated to Washington by way of Nebraska. She us buried in a cemetery not 50 miles away! I can't wait to visit her grave! Genealogy is almost as big a passion with me as quilting.

KATHY - I'm not too social at parties either. So when I don't know what to say, I just start asking people about themselves - the family, grandkids, career, travels, interests. People love to talk about themselves. They appreciate that I've shown an interest in them. Soon, I'm more relaxed and so are they. And it does fill the time until I can leave.

KARLENE - that was very sweet, and very unexpected of David! Bill would NEVER buy me shoes. But I won't complain because he buys fabric!

Now we're headed out to visit Warren and Lois. It's almost their 59th wedding anniversary. We need to mark such an big occasion.
