Good morning, I am enjoying my last day of spring break and am starting it with my typical sundae routine, coffee and watching "This Week with George Stephanopoulos". I won't discuss politics but I do enjoy this show and hearing the discussions.

Today. Julia will be here she is refinishing some stools she got from my brother when he moved to Houston. She is taking a Craftsy class on furniture refinishing. She sits outside with her iPad and watches the video. I gave both Izzy and Julia classes for Christmas. I love Craftsy. I wish Eleanor would teach a class there.

The HEXI war........hmm I haven't tried them maybe I will. Bonnie Hunter takes her HEXI project when she travels I usually read when I travel but maybe doing hand work would be an alternative. A friend in my guild is doing yo-yos for a huge quilt and always has them with her.

MaryZ I hope your siblings are both on the mend today what stories you have for future family gatherings.

Have a peaceful and family filled Sunday

Good Sunday morning! I'm still on the run, but things keep looking up! Yesterday, I took a sewing class and made a wallet. I loved the class and the camaraderie, and the wallet I made is great...but, as soon as I started moving into it I discovered its flaws! So, I'm going to do a little more work on this one to make it more usable, and then I'm going to make some design additions and make another! One thing about taking a class, I discovered I'm a slow sewer! I was next-to-last to finish my wallet. It was nice to have another slow poke, though! There is a great sense of community in this shop. It is not the one a couple of blocks from my house. It's across town, so I have to drive about 4 miles, but from the first moment I found this shop, I could feel the sense of community. It's a lot like being here, only in person...and with less time to really get to know about people's lives. Here, it's an immersion process, and amazingly nearly instantaneous. That so rarely happens in the physical world. What a tremendous social resource this has turned out to be! And, I was one of those naysayers who objected to so much online socializing for all the skills lost in not meeting! Well, I've certainly turned around!!! I've also signed up for a class at my walkable LQS, and am probably going to sign up for one more for this next Friday. Maybe because it's much bigger, it's not as warm. But it is friendly, and I have gotten to know one of the owners quite well, so that now I love it for more than just its convenience and great end-of-bolt pieces. Hopefully, classes there will add to the feeling of community there, as well!

After my class yesterday, I met my sister at Mom's. She's in the nursing facility at her complex, and in better spirits, still, since our talk last Sunday. We had planned to tell her our terrible news, but then I got cold feet and made an excuse for us to leave the room together and discuss it. Mom is doing so well right now, that I was afraid if we brought it up it would set her back to the point that she might never stand again. She's perilously close to that point already! What I wish and pray for is that she'll gain sufficient strength from physical therapy to be able to "walk" in her wheelchair, and to transfer herself into and out of the wheelchair. Then she can return to an apartment. Hindsight makes me realize that I was also considering what a control freak my mom can be, and that she had enough information to get this from us on her own terms! Well, that's exactly what she did. She finally asked, and I told her. She said, "That's what I was afraid of." Then she cried...and then she talked about other things. She took it so well, and I feel sure it's because we did it her way, and didn't tell her when she wasn't ready. I stayed with her 2 more hours, and promised to got back today for several hours. I also told her I was going to sleep in today and wouldn't get there too early. I was exhausted! It was so good that my sister and I were both there to tell her. I cried with Mom, and my DS told her a couple of sweet things about last conversations. I couldn't have done that part; I couldn't talk at all! It's such a relief to have that over with!

Now I'm off to read over the past few days and find out what's up with MaryZ's DS and the rest of you! It looks like I've missed a lot in the last few days...I believe I've said before, no moss grows on this group! Prayers are said for all, and extra prayers for those who need extra.
Jodie, enjoying a brief step back into mild winter weather

JULES, when I was in high school and my DS, of blessed memory, was newly on her own, we made a surprise party for our parents' 25th anniversary. We invited family friends whom our DM had known since childhood, friends they'd made as newlyweds, and local friends they'd become close to since settling down. I put together an album with lots of old photos taken over the years of their marriage, and it turned out that I had (accidentally) included everyone at the party! Everyone had such fun finding the old pictures of themselves. That remains the very best party my family ever had, and what memories I have of it! It sounds to me like your party topped ours! Congratulations, I'm so glad your parents got such a great treat, especially the biggest surprise of their old friends! What a wonderful gift, and so worth the work!!!
