Sunday Dec 28th,
Good morning,,,It is cloudy and warm out there we may reach 55 today...but the winds are supposed to be very bad, they are saying 55mph with gusts,,,,We have a lot of trees here so we wait. The generator is ready to go as we usually lose power in high winds,,,,I am on my way to pick up a grocery order. and a freezer order. That is what i will be doing today.
I might start taking down some of the christmas tomorrow. Towels and rugs need to be washed, I will bring out the bins from storage, More purging to be done too...It was a great Christmas this year I think the best ever,,,
I am 3/4 finished hand sewing the first block of the jane quilt....i am liking it more and more...I still need to finish the QOV quilt nd get it ready for the next lady to do the binding. I do have to make a label as soon as I am given the details of the honoree. The lady who handles it has the very bad flu so It might be awhile...
Hope you all are having a wonderful day...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Good morning,
TINA B - so sorry you drew your SILs from the bottom of the pile. Our Other Tina has oft lamented her DD's choice, too. We have two good SILs, but our DIL - well, less said the better there. It really is hard for us parents, especially at the holidays. By the way, I Googled Rouladen and it was exactly what I thought it was - and I've made it! Sort of. A similar dish, anyway. But I sort of forgot about it - I'll give it a try again when I'm a little more sturdy on my pins. If I remember. Perhaps you'll remind me?
JUDI - In normal times I actually enjoy The Big Put Away after the holidays, too. However, this year, I just wish I could wiggle my nose and everything would go back where it belongs. We won't start until after New Year's - probably Jan 2 or 3. I have to admit, I'm not tired of looking at our tree, even after 11 weeks. Usually, I'm ready for it to be gone after 4 weeks. You are smart to make notes of your decorations. I just slap a label on the semi=clear totes - Tree ornaments, Set arounds, Lights, etc. And we shove them back under the stairway. And then the cleaning starts!! Hope you stay safe in your storm today!
FLO - at our house, we get cat-locked. Scott isn't a furniture or lap dog - even when invited. He's a 34# sheltie. But even our company understands the rule of the house- cat must not be disturbed. Right now he's curled up in Bill's recliner so Bill is sitting elsewhere. I saw your pretty dress on FB. I haven't worked with covered buttons, but they look pretty easy. I'd make a few extra in case one didn't work out so well. But there are some pretty cool regular buttons out there, too. That would be the route I would go, I think.
LYN - I like the phrase your friend gave you, Just might come in handy . . . . I freeze all kinds of cake and candies, even ones made with pretzels. They come out just fine. But I have an entire pumpkin pie (our second one) and I'm wondering if we can freeze that as is . . . . How did Minnie do visiting with her own blankie?
JANA - I didn't know you had decided on the baby blanket yet. I saw old fashioned Winnie the Pooh fabric on sale someplace (on line) about 2 weeks ago. And not sure if you saw it, but there was a panel of Thomas the Tank on sale two days ago - forget where - but I forwarded that e-mail to you. Perhaps you did see it and it wasn't what you wanted,
CHRISS - I didn't bake any sweets this year except for the crew that fell our tree. But when I do make edible gifts, I remember making hamburger sausage back in the 70's. It really was tasty and I've been recently told that you can still buy the seasonings at Pro Bass or Cabella's, and maybe other sporting goods stores. People like the change from sweets. I've also given a quart of homemade wassail as an edible gift. Folks liked that, too.
CAROL - you sneaked in here again! What is your current sewing project? I know you must have something going on. How is your kitty doing?
LORI - Was that the big rain that was predicted to come in off the Pacific? Or is that storm still on its way? We're to be dry most of this coming week, But chilly - low 40's for highs. I don't have much on my list yet for 2026 except to finish my dinosaur quilt (only 48" square), and then Bill got me Eliz Hartman's "Show and Tell" pattern for Christmas. Then I might start on Christmas gifts for next year, but have no idea yet what they might be.
JANA - My mom taught me to chain stitch too. But with our fingers to start. I got pretty good at making cat leashes! lol! Eventually I learned to use the hook and to do simple stitches. The right/left thing might make it difficult. I've always thought - we teach our kids to tie shoes and each generation probably switches how they do it. Think about it. My parents were both right handed, but of us 6 kids, 2 are lefties. If I won the big lotto I'd tear down this split level house and build a one story in it's place. I LOVE our property - the house we have, not so much. Then I'd build a huge refuge for "unhoused" pets and hire people to come love them. And we'd find good homes for them. After that - I'd see about the kids . . . . Also, share with our Food Bank, set up a fund for emergencies in our community - fires, medical, etc. It's fun to play this game.
MARY Q - the forum moves normally early in the morning - like 4am our time. It slows down considerably as the morning goes on. So, what are your projects for 2026 - that you know about so far . . .?
Yesterday Bill took me to the Y and I got myself registered, and then walked the walking track with my walker. The track is supposed to be 1/9 of a mile. Though, walking into the building and then down the LONG hallway to get to the track - and back out again - probably added another 1/9 mile. Anyway, I was slow, but I made it! An old lady also pushing a walker, passed me three times! At home I deboned all the turkey that was left and make a turkey pot pie for supper - leftovers of that again tonite. I worked quite a bit on my Cathedral Window project and then hit the sewing room. I made two "vine" blocks that measured 4.5" x 10.5". Next I will start on actual dinosaurs! There are 8. Two each of four different critters. This morning - we're going back to the Y, then will watch Seahawks game. Next week - a big show down - we'll be playing Jana's 'Niners, I believe. Grrrr.... Watch out, Jana!
Got to go now - I need to shower and get ready for my "work out" at the Y.
Y'all have a super Sunday - It's a day of rest - let the chores go and do something you enjoy.

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Good morning!
It's the end of December and finally Mother Nature is behaving. It's cold! Went from the 60's to the 20's! Poof!
Today is the last Sunday at our nice noon start time. Next week, we switch to the 9 am start time slot. Not my favorite, but will do it. I have the last of Christmas hymns and this one is a easy one. Next week will be a couple of hymns fit for a new Year's theme.
Yes I saw Maryz email about the Thomas train. It was hard to find and when we did, it wasn't all that cute. I still need to order the new skinnie pattern. Or maybe two, there's a couple of New cute ones I saw.
Today my 9'ers play the Bears and Next week, they play the Seahawks. That's the last regular season game and the playoffs begin. A wide receiver on the Bears team is the grandson of our best man. But I think he has a foot injury. Yesterday, BYU played a heck of a game, going down to the last 6 seconds. We held on for the win! Wednesday Utah plays. Should be interesting too. That head coach retired and then took another head coaching job.
Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Good morning Girls
It's a good thing I had no plans to go any place today! We are expecting between 5-8" of snow and winds of 55 MPH and white out conditions!!! These are the kind of days that used to give me a knot in my stomach as I'd have to drive to work in a storm like this. Another reason I am so grateful to be retired!! I have plenty of coffee and TP and I ran up to local grocery store for a couple things to get me by, so I'm going to hunker down and enjoy the view from my nice warm home.
Judi.... Not sure where this storm is coming from, but I hope it's not headed your way---just in case, Do you have enough coffee and TP?
When you take down your Christmas, do you find random things that seem to get left behind? Yesterday all mine went up in the attic, except for one little string of bells that was on my sewing room door knob... I just might leave them there!
Once upon a time, I saw a coffee mug with that "left handed" saying on it!! I used to try to buy Shawn spiral notebooks with the wires on the right!
Maryz... Oh my gosh...so many times I've wished I could wiggle my nose!!! Just for times like these when a big project needs to get done and I don't feel like doing it! Actually the forum is pretty snappy this morning, so I can take my time a little--but I'm not getting up at 0400!! As for 2026---the goal is to use up fabric!!! I'll make quilt tops that I quilt on my own (Viv already has about 8 of mine in her queue), maybe make things that somebody somewhere can use---adult bibs, baby bibs, etc. The goal is to whittle down the number of totes of fabric in my garage. That being said---I did bring home a few pieces of fabric from Katie!
(don't tell my kids).., Hey, if you keep going to the Y, you'll be passing up that old lady in no time! You'd win the "walker race"!!
Flo... Love your dress!!! I haven't made clothes for so long, but am contemplating trying a little jacket pattern I have! In the batch of fabric Katie gave me was some beautiful linen I just might try to use up for an easy blazer type jacket! But if you hear me screaming from here, you'll know it's not going so well. Did you decide on the covered buttons. They really aren't super hard to do, I think I made some once back in about 1968!
Jana.... Interesting "what if" about winning the lottery. I used to think if I won, I'd pay off stuff for my kids, but then decided, nope--they need to be responsible for their own purchases. Now, I might contribute to the grand kids college education. I think I'd do a lot of research and find a charity that does the most good work--where 95% of their income goes into their work--not 35% like most of them. But it's kind of a mute point, as I never buy a lottery ticket!
BTW, thank you for the snow storm you sent this direction!! NOT!! I'm just grateful my grandkids aren't driving back to South Dakota for school this weekend.
Lori.... For 2026.... I'm just going to sew up everything I possibly can---tho I don't know exactly where to start! I have about 15 jelly rolls, and I think today I just might dig them all out, find a pattern for each one and get them ready to sew! What about you? Am I remembering it correctly, that you do wool stitching? Katie has some gorgeous wool in the stash of fabric she brought home--was so tempted to sneak it out. She's going to try to sell stuff on FB!
Chriss.... There's pumpkin pie and a little bit of apple pie left over----it's going in the garbage today!! Dr. Says I need to eat more protein, so I bought 2 turkey breast tenderloins the other day---only problem is, I prefer turkey with a huge helping of cranberry sauce! Do you have any sewing projects in mind for the new year! Sara gave me lemon drops for Christmas, because I do love them, but I sent them home with Brennen! Gotta get back to be aware of what I'm eating and eating less!!
Lyn.... How did Minnie do going to see Garry? My son Shawn is a lefty as well. Scariest thing ever is watching him use a sharp knife, I just know he is going to cut off a finger. Or watching a lefty flip pancakes? My Nolan is a lefty too, and I have one left-handed brother. How does that happen I wonder! Do you think it's hereditary? And then explain this, my boys both have blue eyes, but Jen has hazel/brown eyes! I used to kid--I don't know where she got them because even the milk man had blue eyes (yes I did have a milk man in those days!)
Ok, my coffee is now cold, so time for a refresh. I started pinning/sandwiching a small little quilt top yesterday, so I think I'll finish that this morning and get it quilted. I have the binding all ready so that will be my evening hand work. Wrapped up another cute little baby size top yesterday from an old MSQ Block magazine, so will find a piece of backing in the garage tomorrow. Bren and Evie are coming over tomorrow to help me clean and rearrange. There are two big propane heaters in my garage ready to warm up the garage! We'll be able to work in shorts & t-shirts! Do I dare take "before" and "after" pictures?
Wishing you all a most wonderful Sunday! May all your football teams win!!

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Good morning peeps. It will be a great day today. I'm not sure why it will be great yet but I am in control and can either make it great or not so great. I'm choosing great.
It was nice and clear outside, but that fog has rolled in. I can' see very far but love the leafless trees against the foggy background. I woke up to 37* and it's only 40* now. We are supposed to warm up to 49*
I got a lot done yesterday. did my vacuuming and picked through my closet so I have some things for the thrift store. I also gave Moose his much-needed bath.
Today I would have liked to have gone into town and cleaned the parents' house, but dad just called and he is coming up here today. So, I will go into town tomorrow. Tuesday, I get my washer and dryer delivered and Wednesday is dad's 85th birthday. I found a coffee cup that says "I fix things and I know stuff" I'll find something to put in it and go buy a card.
Lyn, I rarely buy a lotto or lottery ticket. But I did this time and won $10. That means I am only $10 in the hole. The odds weren't in my favor. You do have a lot of sweets at your house. The freezer will keep them safe for you.
Judi, yay for moving along on that handwork. I think that I have only labeled two quilts. One I made for a friend and Jerry's QOV quilt.
Maryz, what a great idea to join the Y. This year, for Christmas, I got one gift. Elliott gave me a coffee cup with our picture on it. I have to say, it was perfect and I am glad I didn't get more. A turkey pot pie sounds really good, I just may show up for that.
Flo, the weather seems to make no sense these past few years. I don't even think we have real seasons anymore.
Jana, my grandma taught me to crochet. I have made a double crocheted afghan but it came to a point at the top. I would love to learn to make different patterns. I like Pooh better than the train.
Maryq, I buy OWYN (only what you need) protein drinks. they are plant based and have no added sugar. I've gotten them at Walmart. I do have a lot of sewing plans but really don't have the desire to sew. I think I need to have a sort of routine because routines become habits. That is one of my goals for the new year.
Today is turning out to be distraction day. I seem to have had a lot of them while typing this. Dinner tonight will be something to finish off the leftover hamburger I have in the fridge.
You all have a groovy day
Chriss

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Good blessed Sunday morning.
I have spent most of the morning pressing DGS quilt and backing. It is done. I posted a picture. I will bring to the long armer tomorrow. Starting a 3 day stretch of Open Sew. Will likely work on the new baby stuff. The quilt will go quickly but I don't really have experience with bags. Diaper bag will take a bit more. I did sign up though for some help with Annette. We call her the bag lady. I have the AP&Q Gem Tones on the design wall so will be working on that too. And will throw some Plum Fusion blocks in along the way. My plan is to make a list in order of priority to complete. I was going to start the Storm at Sea sew along at the shop but once I added up the full cost, decided against it. In addition to the fabric, it is $360 for the year worth of meetings, another $150 for the die, the quilting costs, etc. Just not worth it for one quilt when I have 100 here already to make.
My back has responded to the Prednisone but know I will have to be careful. I will start my exercises today. I did get some hip pain yesterday but not severe.
Chriss now that the rain has stopped, we are 42 right now and should get to about 51. That is one nice thing about rain, it warms up some. Rain may return NYD.
Maryq that is some pretty strong winds. And a white out to boot. Yes I agree, best to stay home. I wanted a now go anywhere day but alas, I have to go get milk. DH cannot live without it.
Jana boy that's cold. And having to go out earlier to boot. Bundle up. I am hopeful the 9er's will pull this off but am not going to watch. I don't need the anxiety.
Flo I saw your dress on FB. It looks like it will be quite nice. Hope you post it when it's complete.
Lyn I wonder why Minnie isn't liking being with Garry. I usually see the opposite. I have in fact been growled at a time or two from dogs on the bed. They say dogs do feel grief so I wonder?
Maryz I have thought of taking a walker to the mall and walking around it. It is really too cold outside for me (yes I know it is in the 20's in some places). I have to do something to get some exercise that is real and not just stretches that the doctor gave me.
Lori how are things in So Cal. I heard some pretty nasty stories after this recent rain.
Well I need to get things going now that the pressing is done. I have some cutting to do on the Go and then start putting the top together. Have a great day everyone.

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Valerie, I have the "Storm at Sea" Accuquilt die. I would loan it to you if you lived closer. It on my list of quilts I want to make eventually. I bought the die when it was on sale. Glad to hear your back is doing better. We made it though the rain with just some minor flooding in the backyard. It's already absorbed. They said we were going to have a dry winter. Not so far.
Chriss, I think we were down to 46* this morning but warmed up to 69*. I have the front and back doors open but will have to close them soon as the temps start falling fast. Sounds like you found the perfect cup for your dad. I got my vacuuming and dusting done yesterday as well. It's nice to have that out of the way. I bet Moose smells good. At least for a few days.
Maryq, good idea to stay inside. Yes I do wool projects. They are fun and easy. You can use all your fun embroidery stitches on them. I purged out some of my wool this year. I still have plenty. I think it's better to just buy the kit then you don't end up with too much. If I go to Road2CA this year, I stop at Buttermilk Basin booth. I love their stuff. Their shop is up by you. Good idea of using up jelly rolls. I may check out my pre cuts and see what I can come up with.
Jana, how long will you be on the 9 am schedule? I like noon much better.
Maryz, we had a good soaking the day before Christmas and then another the day after. I think we got 5 inches today on the 2 days. That's a lot for us here. A normal storm is usually 1/2 in to an 1. That "Sew and Tell" pattern is adorable. Glad you got your walk in.
Judi, I've been washing the Christmas towels and quilts getting them ready to be put away until next year.
We were able to go to the park again today. We haven't gone because of Jack's hurt leg. He did great and both of the boys were in their happy place. I went to Barnes and Nobel this afternoon. They were have a %25 sale on everything and if your a premium member you got an extra %10. Which I am. I got a puzzle, 3 books, and 2 boxes of stationary. It was packed in there. I'm glad to see bookstores coming back. Dinner will be Halibut, angel hair pasta, and broccoli.
Have a lovely evening.

Re: Sunday Dec 28th,
Blessed Sunday evening
DD1 safely arrived from Virginia yesterday. Today church and dinner with DD2 and SIL and 16 yr old grandson. Brought out old Nintendo that was popular in the 80 s. Grandson had fun with it and so did my kids. Heavy rains and thunder high in 50s now 29. With the winds howling from the west sounds very wintry when the am was springish. Also tornado warnings south of us all in one day. Going to try to work on cozies tomorrow. Trying to put together grocery list for New Year’s Day and eve. DD3 and 5 littles coming then. It’s coming fast. Also need to make birthday cake for youngest grandson who’s birthday is Jan 6, will celebrate Sunday. I have the pans and Mom will decorate it. Busy times like always.
Thinking of Lyn, Garry, Judi,Flo, MaryZ , Chriss and the rest of us. We all need prayers of encouragement, patience, love and support.
Blessings to all,
TinaB
