Friday Dec5th 2025

Post by grammiequilts » Fri Dec 05, 2025 5:23 am

Good morning all It is very very cold here we woke to 4 and our high might be in the teens.
I got most of the gifts wrapped a few to go. I had a little light up Christmas tree I had on the bathroom vanity,,it refused to light so I took it apart this morning and a wire was lose so me and a little electrical tape fixed it.it needed a pin point of solder but I dont know how to do that so I taped it...well it lights up pretty but now the on off switch doesnt work .Oh well I will just take the batteries out.Been married to Ken for so long I started fixing things too. I would have asked him but he tends to make a big project out of littles...I really didnt care it is didnt work but I wanted to try. So It is half fixed..It wasnt expensive and it has no sentimental value...ut just bugged me it didnt work, and of course it is a Christmas thing. No room without a christmas...
Today I will go up to the hallmark store for one more ornament and stop at the Krogers for the last of the gift cards and I will write out the adult cards and gift cards...my adult children and spouses get gift card because I dont know what to get them and they are short on ideas.(They are all successful and buy what they want for them selves) so it is gift cards for them, luckily I know their favorite places to shop. I give them Ken and my lists every year. We love gift cards to restuarants and they know where we like to eat. All except Colleen have grandkids and this is easy for them..I asked them to pitch in a buy me theatre tickets and someone to go with me. so we shall see if it gets done...The Phantom of the Opera is coming to the Detroit Opera house in February and I would love to go so we shall see. I asked for an escort since Ken is not a fan of live theatre, I am hoping Sophia is my "date" as she loves theatre. I took Colleen when she was 12, We rode the train to Toronto Canada to see it back then ,
Well I have things to do and places to be,,,,Prayers for All who are needing this day..I just found out my neighbor at my old house passed away yesterday of a massive heart attack. She was a good neighbor and we lovingly called her Mrs.busybody, when ever my kids had "company' when we were not home she would squeal on them. have a wonderful day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ps My grandson Nolan is 20 today,,,not a teen anymore...

Good morning,

It's cold here but I have to go to the store to finish getting my ingredients for my cookies and other stuff.
No sewing on the docket I want to clean and get ready to put the tree up it's not going to clean its self and there is no button to self clean.

So when we get back that's what I will be doing.
I don't know what will be for dinner tonight.
I hope you all have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.

Good morning,

A drizzly day here. But the days start getting longer in just 3 weeks! I think I look forward to that more than Christmas!

JANA - so happy to hear little Enoch has decided to stay put for now, Is Mom on any restrictions? Bed rest? No dancing or horseback riding? I want to see all your nutcrackers, Santas, and snowmen marching in formation! I didn't used to like nutcrackers - they aren't everyone's cuppa, you know. But I've changed my mind and if I were to start a new collection of anything Christmas at this stage of my life it just might be nutcrackers. Bummer about the teeth, but at least you should have them in plenty of time for your birthday!

LORI - you are so right - empty days fill up before breakfast is even over! Is the Christmas sampler of which you speak the KTVC? We slept under ours for the first time last night. I think we need to move it sideways. We have a king bed and it's only about a 5" drop (the outer borders) on the sides of the bed, but it's so long that it hangs into Scottie's bed.

MARY Q - how was the party last night? What treats did you make to take? Were there a lot of people? And nope, probably no chance Drew would ever move from the PNW. He loves it here and plans to retire from the PSNS. But he might like a "pen pal", especially while he's gone to Japan for four months. And you didn't ask me, but I'll tell you anyway, I accidentally a Christmas gift Bill has bought for me and hidden on a high shelf out in our shop! And he forgot about it. In June of the next year we were cleaning the shop and it fell and hit me on the head! I was glad it was just a soft Kitchenaid cover and not the Kitchenaid mixer itself! And 2 yrs ago I bought him a small "smart" flashlight he wanted. I quickly tossed the shopping bag with the flashlight into my gardening area of the garage when he suddenly showed up as I got home from Christmas shopping and was stepping out of the car. And then I completely forgot about it until the next summer when I started getting out my gardening tools!

DIANE - Yes, miracles do happen. I've seen several in the NICU and even in my personal life. Saying a prayer now for the miracle that it sounds like you might need. God bless!

LYN - I'm afraid to ask, "how's it going today?" Sorry Bob and Carol weren't able to make it to visit, but maybe today . . . And what's with the Jeep? Let's see if we can find another big rock to pile into your backpack of life! Good Lord, Girl! You passed overload some time back! You're getting some prayers today, too!

LOIS - sorry you're tired of doctors. I, for one, am enjoying every single one of my doctor visits! NOT! Hate to say it, but we are all pretty much of an age, I think, and it's the doctoring age! :lol BTW, my age will be 75 in March. As to pantos, like MQ said, with our machine, you stand behind the machine and follow the pantograph with a laser. To freehand, you stand in front and work from right to left, though as you build muscle memory you can also work left to right without raising the needle. Just have to roll up the next section. But I'm guessing your machine doesn't work that way?

JUDI - hooray for clean closets! I cleaned the deep closet in my quilting room a few weeks ago, but right now I can't get on the 2-step stool to get to the top shelf so I think I'll wait to finish that job. I sure don't want "someone else" seeing all the stuff I keep that I think I need. One thing up there is an extra set of 4-primary colored vintage Pyrex mixing bowls, only in this extra set they are all yellow. I Googled those colored bowls and found they are selling anywhere from $250 to $1200! Yikes! I collected mine in thrift stores. My sister has our Mom's original set. And I use mine for everyday - but I do hand wash them to preserve the sheen. Congrats on fixing that little tree yourself! Prayers for Jennifer's grandmother. It sounds as if she's lived a good life, making others happy. Saying a prayer for a peaceful transition for her and for her family. Happy birthday to Nolan! 20! hard to believe!

CHRISS - what's cookin' at your house today? What did Dad do yesterday? How is his leg?

Yesterday went well - Saw my surgeon's PA, got XR's, and had a CT scan. Today I am awaiting a call from the "anesthesia team". I also have a 9am chiro appt today and will have the first of three pre-op 30-minute red light laser treatment to my future surgical site at the chiro. There will be three post-op treatments, too. Supposed to speed healing. Can't wait to get that new hip! I also finished writing all my Christmas cards, Between appts, we delivered the gifts we had for dentist, UPS staff, massage therapist- cookies, wine, candy. My shopping and wrapping are done. My gifts just need bows and to come out from hiding in my sewing room.

Today, other than chiro and phone call, I have nothing to do! So I'll work on CW's, wooly mittens, or paint Nativity pieces. Those are my choices. Maybe I'll mix it up and do all three. Supper is going to be ham & navy bean soup.

Speaking of prayers - my DB, Gene, is having some more health problems. Not unexpected at his age, but they are flying to Anchorage for some special testing. Cancer, possible leukemia, is suspected I believe. We're waiting until after Anchorage for an official diagnosis. So perhaps we could add him to the prayer list. He's tough, and we think of him as invincible, but he IS pushing 91. Thank you,

Have an fantastic friday!

Good morning!

It's barely light, windy and a huge snow storm is approaching. Glad the store is near by.

I still have 3 or 4 totes to put out and then clean up that mess. I'm stacking those empty totes in the middle bedroom until needed in January. Tomorrow my big boys will come and set up the big family room tree and decorate it. I'll put up my front room red and white tree today. Miss Karlie wants to decorate that one.

I love Phantom! Went and saw it once in San Francisco. The same touring group, going to Judi's area will be here in April. Tickets are on sale now and oh how I wish I could go! It's getting in from the parking and then seats that gives me difficulty. Never been to the theater here in SLC. And then the ticket price, my oh my, would need to take out a mortgage! For once, I do enjoy watching a advertisement on TV!

Kate is on basically normal activities. No restrictions. Her OB feels that bed rest really doesn't work, so doesn't prescribe it. Kate is taking it easy, though. We are waiting to here from a local fire department on a PIO position. Kate interviewed with the Chiefs last week. A PIO is the public information officer. Laughingly we call, the spokes liar. They are paid to lie to the public. Kate would be doing more teaching and public awareness, especially with schools. Little Enoch would be welcome in her office and when she went to a event, either Sarah or I would have him for a couple of hours. The PIO job is a hybrid of work at home and in office. Kate would also keep her certification current to fight fires. We hope to hear soon on that job. The Chiefs did love her. It's a small department, West Jordan. A take home vehicle. Kate's fire truck would have a baby car seat.

Still kicking the sloth to the street, so better get going. Yesterday I did get to the dds, the pharmacy to change a prescription and finally got the oil changed in my Highlander. Found a good, honest oil change shop. I knew the air filter hadn't been changed in a very long time, so asked them to do that too. Well, they checked the filter and came in to show me, my old filter looked brand new and didn't need to be changed.

Hugs and many prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Friends

Just a quick hello this morning as I'm looking around at the disaster area I call my living room!!! Man those gremlins had a time in my house last night.

Actually, it was probably me. The association Christmas party was last night and it went pretty well. We did things a little differently that has been done in the past and of course had a few folks that weren't very happy about it---not sure why they came in the first place! You always have "those" folks in any give group right? We did a buffet of sliced roast beef and stuffed chicken breasts and I thought it was very good! And guess who has all the left overs in their fridge!! So that's the first project of the day is to deal with that. The beef went right into the freezer, the chicken I will cut up for soup, along with the left over mixed vegetables---so guess what's for supper. Not sure I'll even see the sewing room today!!

Tonight, after 7:30, Katie and I will go up and set up for our craft fair tomorrow---at the Catholic church just up the street from us. It only goes from 9-2 tomorrow so it will be a short day! So once the leftovers are put away, I'll need to do some re-con on the tote boxes of crafts in my garage! Not sure I want to continue to be in the "craft fair business" Katie makes stuff to sell at consignment stores etc and craft fairs.. Not my thing... makes sewing too much like a job. I just want to sew for fun!

So I better get busy, my fridge is full of Styrofoam containers and I need to makes some sense out of them.

Wishing you all a Fabulous Friday! Probably won't see you tomorrow, but I'll check in on Sunday!

Prayers for all!

Yesterday the Hospitalist (Dr) again told me acute stroke called a Left basal ganglia stroke, deep in the left side of brain. His liver count is up. There's something going on with his gallbladder, but there's no way a surgeon would remove with Garry in his present condition. X-ray showed some possible aspiration in the lungs.
The Therapist came in and her assessment is that he won't be able to go back to Rehab Hospital. Then a very nice young lady, Dr. Lee, palliative care, talked with me for a long time. Since I had looked at skilled nursing facilities on Tuesday, that part of the conversation went quickly. We also talked about Hospice. I think Garry will be in the hospital for a number of days before moving him to a skilled nursing facility.

As for the Jeep, I had called at 5 yesterday, but service was gone. Lady who answered asked if I wanted to talk to a manager, sure. I told the assistant manager what was going on and he offered me a free use of a car until mine was done, and we were going to pick it up this morning after checking on Garry. On the way to the hospital I got a call that the Jeep is fixed. So, we are headed there now.

Garry barely opened his eyes and nodded to a couple questions I asked. They are going to do some kind of scan of his gallbladder later this morning.

I don't like being chauffeured around, but it is allowing me to type this, as long as I look up often. Lol

Prayers for everyone here. Thank you all for your support 💕
Lyn

Good morning. It's going to be a great day today. I have goals but no deadlines. It's been foggy for days, and if it continues, I will never know what is going on across the street.

Today will be a few chores then off to the craft fairs. There are two going on. It's really the same stuff as all the craft fairs. I'd be more excited if there was something new to see. Tomorrow there are about 5 craft fairs in another town, not sure if I want to go to them or not.

I had a bag of 16 beans to make 16 bean soup. I added a ham shank and some leftover chopped ham. It turned out pretty good. Dad took some home. It will be dinner for the next couple of days. I cooked them in the crock pot using a crock pot liner. I will never use a crock pot without a liner again. I love them.

Maryz, sure wish I had a 30ish girl for Drew. He is a good catch. Glad he gets to explore while he is there. Bet everyone loved their Christmas treats, nice of you to pass around the goodies. I am looking forward to the new windows, mostly for keeping the cold out. And I am thinking about window coverings next. Don't worry about dad and his finding projects around here. He is finding plenty of things to do, sometimes I think he makes work so he can do something. Doctor appointments mean progress, so very glad things are progressing for youu.

Jana, great news about them stopping the labor, glad Enoch will stay inside where it's warm and cozy. Stu is a little boy in my book too. They try to change my air and my cabin filters when I get an oil change. I buy the filters from Amazon and change them myself. I save a boatload of money that way.

Lori, whatever happened to that cat that was hanging out at your parents house? I'm curious, how far along are you in going through things there? and what is the best thing you've found so far? One day, hopefully not too soon, I will be doing the same at my parents very full house.

Judi, that's the trouble with successful kids. They buy what they want throughout the year and then there is nothing they want for Christmas. A friend of mine is giving her grown grandkids an AAA subscription and will renew it for them every year. I'm going to find a Hallmark store, if there is one near me, and check out the ornaments. Elliott needs an ornament each year.

Lois, hope you quickly find everything you need at the store. Happy Christmas decorating.

Maryq, I think leftover chicken in a soup pot with lots of veggies sounds wonderful. Sorry that there were some Grumpy Guss's at your party. Some people don't do well with change.

Lyn, wish there was something I could do, other than offering prayers there really isn't. While I am sorry about Garry I am glad you have a great team around you. There is surely an angel or two in that group watching over Garry, and watching over you too. xoxo

Time to get moving before my butt grows roots on this recliner. You all have a blessed day

OMG the site takes forever to load.

Maryz, the sampler is from a few years of Christmas swaps. I think I’m going to give it away to one of the kids friends. I have so many quilts I don't know what to do with them. I have given some of the away, and more sorted out to go. Sounds like you have everything done and are ready for a new hip.

Judi, I fix most things myself. Bill is only handy with sprinklers and yard stuff. Most little things I can figure out.

Lois, being a cold day sounds perfect for making cookies.

Jana, nice that Kate will be able to work with the little one.

Maryq, I hope you do well with your craft things. It sounds like a lot of work.

Lyn, glad you have already looks for a facility and are ready for the next phase of his care. I sure hope the jeep is fixed this time and you don't have anymore problems.

Chriss, your soup sounds yummy. I bought some ham this afternoon for soup. I think I'm going to make potato and ham soup. The cat still comes around. Sometime when I show up she's sitting on the back patio looking inside. When she sees me, I get the look of "feed me dumb ass." I haven't done much this last week at the parents house. I had too many things going on this week. I might head up there this weekend and do some work.

Valerie, what are you up to today?

Tinab and Flo, are you staying warm?

It's been a nice couple days. About 70 degrees. I had Pt this morning after our morning walk. Had to drop a package at the post office, so I went to the market across the street while I was out. Got fish and meats for this weeks dinners. I got down some Christmas stuff at my house and purged some of it. Now I need to clean up some messes around here. Dinner will be Potato and ham soup.

Have a lovely evening.

Hi all,
Late getting here. At 645 AM it was 7 degrees wind chill colder. Told DH too cold to drive to do water aerobics then back into cold. Decided floor needed a good scrubbing not mopping. Forgot I am 75 not 55 and started yesterday and quit shoulder and knees hurt. So this morning finished that, finished laundry from trip and quest bed remade. Tonight some paperwork that I have to do. 1 to 3 inches snow by Sunday morning. Just have to wrap up Chrismon ornament gifts for Sunday morning. Been a busy week.Next week sewing and cooking making, I hope. Still decorating trees but cleaning along the way. Changed Dr appointments to go to grands Christmas program this coming week and next. Hope weather holds out. The recipient of the baby I spy quilt I made from start to finish and a label really liked it. Made me feel good, now knowing how you all feel with your quilts. Don’t know how to post. Have to become more organized so I can sew more next year.
Prayers to all in special need from young to old. Everyone be careful stay warm. Each of you are so special.Today I am thankful for Dr results and for fabric that I can make into something special for others.
Be safe @nd well,
TinaB
