Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Good Sunday morning,
We had an unpleasant surprise yesterday morning - someone tried to use our credit card to get $2,000. It didn't go through but we had to cancel the card - and we have a lot of automatic bills paid with that card! Arghh! Evil people are such a pain!
LYN - I know you're very busy, so thank you for letting us know how Garry is doing. But how YOU is doing? I bet you are pretty worn out. Thank goodness you were home in Texas when this happened. So glad you have Kaylyn there. How long can she stay? I'm sorry the rehab facility is so far from you, but the important thing is he is getting the best care. Where is the hospital he is in now?
DIANE, you asked where I live (your question from my tree photos thread). I live in Gig Harbor, WA. I was born only 1/2 mile away at my godparents' home and raised on a farm 2 miles away. I have 2-1/2 acres of mostly thick woods on the Olympic Peninsula just across Puget Sound from Tacoma/Seattle. And I love it here! You are right - it is my paradise. I've lived on this property for 40 years.
MARY Q - You might be confused because I posted pictures taken from two different directions. Lara took one of the stump. She was standing in front of our house, facing Vicki's property. The other pix of the tree falling, I was standing at the tree line in back of the house and shop, facing the road in front, even though you can't see the road through the trees. The open grassy area where the tree fell was actually Vicki's property. The trailer you stayed in when you visited was about 20 feet to my right of where I was standing when I took the pictures. We have an attached garage and also a detached 24x36 foot shop. That is where our pick-up, tractor, mowers, etc. live along with Bill's work bench and storage for lots of stuff. Maybe you should come back and reacquaint yourself with my property! We're going to be here all winter long!
CHRISS - so happy you got to spend some one-on-one time with your main man! What fun that must have been! I agree - raising kids now is very different from when we raised ours. But I suspect our parents thought the same thing. So I keep my lips sealed and as far as anyone knows, we follow all their rules!
VAL - I'm not surprised you needed a do-nothing day before trying to regroup back into your real life. You must be exhausted after the 2-1/2 month marathon you've been running. I think I'd need a lot more than one day!
JANA - I hate that you can no longer talk to a real person on the phone, even at your local pharmacy! And when we go to our CVS to pick up an Rx we have to use an app on our phones to log into a computer before we get waited on. Yesterday we got an "inservice" on how to use digital coupons at our Fred Meyer (Kroger) grocery store! Arghhh!! So frustrating! I remember Fred & Ethel who dwell in your basement! That is a lot of food! I have a bottom freezer in my house fridge and a top freezer in my garage fridge. And right now they are both crammed full in anticipation of my upcoming surgery! I think I need a Lucy, too! Glad your DDS appt wasn't painful. When I'm in a dentist's chair I like to listen to an audio book - an excellent distraction!
JUDI - After 'taking the 'tour' of the Whitney how could you not have a wonderful time at the wedding! And I love the idea of a charcuterie reception. Congrats on the big win! What were you playing to accrue such a fortune? I did the same thing to make my design boards - sort of. I went to Home Depot and bought foam boards and covered them with white flannel, using pins on the edges to hold the flannel in place. One is 2x4 ft and one is 4x6 ft. I prop them on open drawers of one of my fabric cabinets and when I'm not using them they live behind the door. Sadly for me, my foam boards were not free. You made me think of laundry. Darn you! I guess I better do it. But it's just two loads.
FLO - so happy you are cancer free! That must be the best feeling in the world! Let's not be talking age, shall we? I believe you are quite a bit younger than I am! (psst - I'll be 75 in March).
Yesterday we grocery shopped, came home, and brought in all the groceries. Lots of TG foods on sale so I stocked up on pumpkin, cranberries, pineapple, etc. We have 3 turkey breasts in our freezer now. Then went to Costco. Walking all those cement floors really got to my hips and low back, but I made it! Back at home I put everything away, washed & trimmed veggies, and finally, make Merwyn's cranberry pumpkin pecan orange bread. I followed directions for the "healthier version". Not sure I'm overly impressed. I might make it again using the regular directions and see what I think. But I have two loaves for Merwyn and his helper to take home today. It was 2pm before I sat down. Whew! I think I sort of fell asleep. In the evening I stitched down 6 more "windows".
Today I'll make a tray of hot coffee and sandwiches for Merwyn and Damien, his helper, work on my table runner, and not much else. A few weeks ago I made chicken pot pies and froze them, so I'm going to pull one of them out for supper tonite. And we'll have salad or maybe spinach saute'd in garlic and topped with parm.
My brother is still in the hospital. His lab work wasn't optimal so he's in for another night and undergoing an endoscopy today. Trying to see where he is losing blood. I am surprised they didn't do this right off the bat, other than perhaps his age. If he's not careful that scoundrel is going to make me come up there!
Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Blessed Sunday one and all. Just a quick little note to say I am thinking of all of you and will send prayers up at church in a little bit. This morning 39 yesterday was 52 at this time. Only have half of the binding on the baby quilt left to do with a decorative stitch. Was scared to do it but jumped in and did it. It is no where near quilt judging but it is the loving thought that counts. It is a baby quilt that will be droodled, spit up on and perhaps diaper blow out on. It is my first one and all our first ones have flaws. Right.
Anyway after church we have to finish getting DH baby ready (his sports car) to be stored for the winter.
Crisis on Friday when little car ran over metal, needed to be winched up on a tow truck, pains for DH and new tire. Then while doing dishes my dishwasher wanted to help by multi tasking and washed the floor while doing dishes. So its was an crazy day. So today is finish car, garage it, pick up leaves and fertilize the lawn today or tomorrow. Then off on Tuesday just DH and I for a little vacation so I will be missing in action.
Prayers will be lifted up for all and the good Lord will take over. You are all so special to me.
Blessings, hugs, love and positive thoughts. Have a great rest of your day.

Thank you all for your prayers, we need them.
Garry had a Pontine stroke.
Garry was worse yesterday. He was harder to understand. They were able to get him up in a shower chair in the morning and the gal told him she was rolling him in to hose him off. Lol Then they set him in a recliner. He was really tired and slept the afternoon in the chair. When they went to get him up, he had no strength in his legs and down he went. No one got hurt, thankfully. I wasn't in the room, I had gone to the Jeep to get my IPad, and walked back in to find 4 ladies getting the equipment in place to sling him into bed. Kaylyn will be staying a few days. She was helping at a stable where her girlfriend works but isn't getting paid, so not a 'real' job.
A hope you all have a good day. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

MaryZ, Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Marble Falls is 18 miles east of our house on Hwy 71 and almost at Hwy 281. Their Rehab hospital is in Lakeway north of Hwy 71 and just off Hwy 620. Near the big HEB on 620.
As for me, I'm ok. I'm trying not beat myself up with, I should have done this or that and maybe this wouldn't have happened.

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
I'm back for a bit while I have another cuppa.
LYN - Let's stop the beatings! You aren't a doctor or a nurse or an EMT or even an aide. You are a wife! I don't know what more you could have done. I'm so sorry Garry is worse today. But with prayers and good medical care, which you have seen to is provided, our hope is that he will start improving soon. And I know exactly where the BS&W Hosp is. About 5 miles south of our RV park when we are in Austin. When my sister fell and shattered her knee Christmas morning 4 yrs ago, that's where she went. Also, our Antonio was in there for a few days a couple of years ago. They have good people.
TINA B - you have quite a busy day outlined. But first get that baby taken care of! And kudos to you for trying something new! Many quilters bind their projects using machine decorative stitching. It can cover a lot of little trouble spots when you are first learning - and when you are experienced, too! Please don't aske me how I know this.
And now, my coffee is gone so I better get busy - going to make some chicken salad for lunch sandwiches and maybe the choc chip cookies I mentioned the other day but never made.
Ciao!

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Good Morning Girls
Happy Sunday! Looks to be a nice sunny day here, but I don't think we will see any more warm days. If it gets up to 40* today I think we'll be lucky. Still happy that there is no snow in the forecast!
Judi... Have you decided on your next quilt project? I wasn't much of a Youtube watcher, but have now gotten addicted to watching various craft and sewing channels. If you need an idea.... just surf around Youtube for a while. I have several layer cakes that I need to use and now have all sorts of ideas---more ideas than time to do them!!
Maryz.... YIKES!! Scary somebody got ahold of your CC numbers!!! So nice that we can now get alerts that there's been an attempt at fraud use. Such a pain to change everything tho. I'll have to go back and look at the pictures..... If air traffic wasn't so messed up from the shut down, I'd sure be tempted to hop a plane and come look!!! Sorry to hear Gene is still in the hospital. I will add some prayers for him on my list today, along with Garry! I'm going to try to quilt a small UFO today--it's perfect time to pray--a prayer per stitch!
Tina.... It's not the destination... it's the journey! With every new task we try, we learn and we get better at it. Don't you look at your first ever quilt tops and think how far you've come! My first quilt I made by cutting 4" squares out by hand and laying each square on my bed to get them lined up right. A trip around the world no less!! Sorry you had a boo-boo with your car!!
Lyn..... Yes... no self beatings allowed! Remember it accomplishes nothing except to leave you black and blue. Sorry to hear that Garry isn't doing as well today. Do you think he is aware of what is happening? Does he know that he's going to a rehab facility? As I said, a prayer with every stitch today for both Garry and Gene!!!
Chriss.... The hardest thing with grandkids..... keeping your mouth shut. I worry when parents have too many rules! I mean, yes, you do need rules, but have some flexibility too. Shawn & Kris didn't have many rules, but Kevin and Sara had "no sugar" rules! No soda pop, no cookies, no candy, no fun!! I respected a little and always asked permission before I offered something. Not that I believe in a lot of sugar, but a treat once in a while. We never had candy as a kids, but perhaps that's why I crave it so much now!! Hope Dad continues to do well. Your idea for Chix pot pie... sounds perfect to me! Not sure what my neighbors are doing, I have a sneaky feeling nothing--so we might get together here.
Can't say I really accomplished much yesterday. Found a UFO in my tub-closet so I think I'll get that pinned and maybe a head start on quilting. It's only about 57" square so I think I can handle it. Darn Peggy showed me a new cute little fabric gift back to make so of course I had to make a few!
For now I have a few dishes to wash and will stick my head in the freezer to see if there is anything can take out for supper. Fridge is pretty empty as it's time to go get groceries again! Man I hate that job!!
Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday with lots of prayers for y'all throughout my day!

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Good morning!
Supposed to rain today. The proverbial they say it should start about the time my church does. That's around noon. I have my music ready. Two nice hymns and the one that is not on my like list! I have gotten away not singing this hymn for more that 6 years! It's one I consider should only be sung at a funeral and when , then, I have banned my kids from using it at my funeral! Threatened to comeback and haunt them! LOL! Can you tell I totally dislike this particular hymn? With the Church redoing our hymnal, they are adding new hymns and taking out some of the other hymns. Hopefully this 9ne goes!
Got my grocery shopping done and picked up the prescriptions. While we were gone, Daniel finished my display shelves in my stairs. They look wonderful! He's fussing over a small detail, and will figure out how he wants it to look. It's the difference between a sharp looking edge and a slightly rounded edge. He's a detail person! Anyway, they are ready and waiting for Christmas decorations! I know have 3 rows of shelves, that are each about 12 feet long. Just what ineeded!
Sarah stopped by and found the missing section to my Dickens Village platform. So that's out and ready for Mr G. She helped her MIL empty a storage unit too. Her MIL was paying for this for the youngest child, who's currently not going to need it for a very long time. This child who's pushing 40, didn't learn right from wrong in business practices and it's now caught up to him. A very long story that is book worthy! You wouldn't believe it! So in cleaning this unit out, Sarah found hundreds of feet of brand new copper wire, for house electrical usage, so brought it home. She can now wire the new outlets for my house and her she shed too. This BIL was in the construction business and had so many burner phones, it was ridiculous! All Apple I phones, that Sarah will sell back to a company..
After church, I'll be in the Batt Cave. Daniel also changed the tip on my old cane, so now I have two working ones. One for upstairs and the other for the Batt Cave. It was a task to take my cane on the stair lift and not drop it. Problem solved.
Lots of prayers,
Hugs,
Jana

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Good morning. It has been raining since late afternoon yesterday. The sky will surely run out of water soon. My hope is that the squirrel holes get good and full to overflowing. Maybe that will get those rodents to move to a higher dryer spot.
Even with the wind and rain it's going to be a beautiful day. My plan is to cook a couple of dinners and take them to the parents. They like to go out to eat but all that is is salt. I will make Salisbury steak with a veggie or salad, and chicken with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. One for today and one for tomorrow. I also bought a bag of 16 bean soup beans and have ham to add to it. so that will go in the crock pot today. But first a trip to the grocery store.
No other plans for the day, guess whatever hours are leftover will be all about me. Such a rough life.
Judi, yay, the bar is finished. I just may join you in the laundry room, I also have sheets needing to be washed. happy Christmas sorting.
Maryz, If you keep feeding those tree workers they will never leave. Glad the tree issue is being resolved. Isn't it frustrating to have to cancel a CC and wait for a new one? Wonder what the people were trying to buy for 2k?
Tina, enjoy your mini vacation. Hope it's a peaceful relaxing time. I also hope that your dishwasher issue is an easy fix.
Lyn, someone once told me, when I was berating myself for not noticing Jerry's issues sooner, "Don't should on yourself". You can't go back and fix things, but you can lean into the situation with Garry and rely on God. He has a plan. I'm sorry about his stroke and will continue praying for the both of you.
Maryq, it's sunny there because all the rain is here. If we take all the moisture out of the sky here in Cali, there won't be any left to turn into snow by the time it gets to you. We didn't eat a lot of sugar growing up but at my grandparents' house sugar was everywhere and within reach. Grandma kept the cookie jar on a low shelf; grandpa had a lot of full-sized candy bars and Pepsi in the fridge. We only had to help ourselves. I think because it was so available It wasn't tempting. I love that you will just grab a project and give it a go. Judi and I will be at the grocery store today, perhaps we will see you there.
Jana, copper wire and burner phones here would likely mean crime. glad you solved the cane problem. I don't think you will get rain, it's all here
I think I will have some breakfast and start my day.
I know you all will stay dry because I am hogging all the rain

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Good Morning,
Southern California is taking a much needed drenching. It wasn’t raining when we left for Mass this morning. On the three mile drive to Church we had light rain, we parked and were about to get out of the car and a deluge hit. We walked into Church and were drenched and sat in wet jackets, clothes and shoes throughout Mass. We came home cold and wet and changed clothes. Chris’s you can share this storm with those east of us, we have two more storms wailing to hit this week.
Lyn - So sorry to hear about Garry. Always hard to watch others we care about suffer.
All is well here. I need to pin baste a coupe quilts. Prayers for Gene and Garry. Take care everyone.

Re: Sunday November 16th, 2025
Like Carol said, It's been a wet weekend here in SoCal. We've had 3 1/2 inches where I am.
Maryz, so how was that new recipe? Did you make a loaf for yourself? Bummer about someone trying to use your card. It happens to us about every 2 years. It's so frustrating. Tis the season for the criminals to take what's not theirs. Sorry to hear Gene is still in the hospital. Hope they can figure him out soon.
Judi, yay...the bar is open. What kind of drinks will you be serving?
Tinab, where will you be going on vacation?
Lyn, sorry to hear Garry is not getting better. It's nothing you did or didn't do. I don't know why we always blame ourselves.
I need to go check on dinner. I'll be back later if I get a chance.
