Chriss -

Quick glance at the cabinet. First, make the microwave at your best height -easy for you to use. And you need power. Daniel looked at the picture and suggested running another wire down from the top plug, so you have two electrical outlets.

Another thought for in the space is a home for your small appliances - air fryer? Coffee maker? Stand mixer? Toaster? The outlets would be helpful. Upper hard to reach, a pretty pitcher, a fancy plate stood up, a decorative rooster - I collect those and have them in my kitchen. Something that is a Chriss thing! A old sewing machine, collection of canisters for looks or occasional use,

So stare at it for awhile, use cardboard to mock up ideas you think of. Cardboard is easy to change around, before youu commit to the final shelf. . Think out of the box! Wallpaper the inside with something you love. Oh, a small puck light in the top to light up what's in there. I keep thinking up things,so once you get started thinking ideas, your brain will run with ideas,

Tina-

Just saw your post about all those lesson plans - had a thought - doctors, researchers, engineers , donate their research papers to a university library. Why not, those lesson plans to teachers in a school district to help out those new fresh out of college, in getting their plans together with ideas from someone who has been there. Those lessons would be very useful to others.

Chriss, I read your post as Minnie and I were enjoying the sun setting behind our Comanche Marker tree, which is a lacey oak.
I have studied your photo and have an idea. First, take one of those small doors to Ace Hardware or Lowe's or ? They can usually copy the stain (or paint color, Ace in Estes Park was spot on). Then make glass doors for above spot and below microwave spot. Show off some pretty dishes inside or your cookbooks or put pretty paper behind glass if you don't want stuff seen. A cabinet company might be able to make something similar or, this may sound odd, but I wonder if like Hobby Lobby could make picture frames that could be stained and used as doors. That may be a crazy idea, but there's options out there.

Tinab, Those lesson plans could come in handy to teachers when they realize this Now crap isn't working.
