Monday August 18th

Post by grammiequilts » Mon Aug 18, 2025 4:23 am

Good mornng It is a bit cooler today only 79 for the high,
Party yesterday was good. Navy enjoyed the indoor playground so much it was hard to get her in to open gifts, But she sat very well opened each gift and thanked the person who sent it, Then as soon as the last gift was opened she was off to play again, This place is like a giant padded cell...You have to take your shoes off as soon as you enter, socks are a must if you dont have them they sell them to you for $3. (I now own a pair of bright orange socks) full of padded amusement things a ball pit, swings slides and a little village with play fruit and veggies and a kid grocery store too, with grocery carts and little bikes everywhere, and a quiet room for adult guests, it was fun,
I got all the honeycomb blocks prepped and ready to embroider, so that is another thing off my list now to embroider them as I can,
Today I take my DDIL to her mammogram and then I have an appointment with the hearing aide place at 3, Im not sure what supper will be, perhaps chili and what ever else is in the freezer already cooked. We have 5 or 6 ripe tomatoes from the yard, so I could make a cucumber onion and tomato salad to go with what ever,
Hope you all have a good day
Glad the party turned out good even though it rained,,,( i heard it was good luck for it to rain on a wedding) but dont tell my grand daughter who is busy planning her outdoor wedding for next year,,

Rain showers going through, hopefully ending soon so I don't have to hookup in rain.

Lois, Hope you get answers on your machine. Prayers for Billy's family, sorry for their loss.

Judi, Sounds like the birthday was a lot of fun.

Jana, Glad your party turned out OK, even if it was inside. Happy Anniversary.

We are headed to Fergus Falls, MN, today.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning,

Today is the wonderful world of Mammography, early appointment 09:15. Then I will go deliver the baby quilt to Napa. In between I will do some more sorting and cleaning. It amazes me how quickly things can pile up. Doing a bit of deep cleaning also as I go.

Will be back to working on DGS and friend's quilt. Also packing here and there. I need to go today and pick up a few things. Found a cross stitch kit in my cleaning adventure. It is a color coded kit so don't need to see so well. I tried counting the cross stich Aida cloth a while back and was not able to see it well enough. Still need to get one of those magnifying things you wear on your head. I have cataracts but eye dr says they are not ready for surgery. In the meantime. I can't see!

Lois hope you get the machine sorted out. Sewing machines can be so relaxing right up until they are not! Condolences to Billy's family.

Lyn yes hooking up is not at all fun in the rain. Hope it stops. Wouldn't want you to get sick either.

Judi glad the party was a enjoyable time. Thinking that might be an inexpensive way to pick up some new socks! We have one of those places here but with no little ones close I have never been in one.

Jana glad the party turned out good despite Mother Nature. Any left overs? I am kinda hungry this morning.

I sorta of have my route mapped out for the trip. At least to get to Rapid City. We have GPS, goggle maps and waze so we likely won't get lost. I am looking at how to get from Rapid City to my nephews and Maryq's. Will likely use GPS for most driving.

Well off I go for breakfast and a few chores before leaving for mammogram. Have a great day everyone.

Good hot morning from Myrtle beach. Fingers crossed for Erin to go hard right and travel back to sea.
Today I hope to try to sew a little by machine. I had cut some fabric before the op for Christmas table toppers gifts. Weds is appt with surgeon. Hope to get her okay to get back on track.
The party for Navy sounds like a great time to be a kid. (even at our age)

FLO-hope things are working for you and your family. Your head must be spinning in 10 directions at once. Please give yourself some quiet time each day even 10 minutes could help.

I'll check back later to catch up
Diane

Good morning!

Back to hinges of hockey sticks weather. HOT! Hopefully the monsoons have kicked in for much needed rain.

My kids have been sneaky over the years in taking pictures of us! For the party, they made several collages of ones from the years. And Sarah made a sign with a family saying, "Look what the two of us did"! Sarah used her Cricut on a chalkboard. So now, I'm getting ready to redo my family picture wall, adding the new sign and the pictures. But first, my bedroom is where I'm starting. The party tables and chairs are packed up and returned to rental place. My deck is now empty! No tools either! Before the party, Daniel used his pressure washer and washed the deck and some windows. I would love to get deck furniture, but will start looking, planning and wait until Spring to buy. I have a idea of what I want, and I'm picky!

Our BIL flew out this morning, early, back to Concord. With the good news on his eyes, he's starting the final things to get his pilot license. He owns two planes already. Daniel took him to the airport, on his way to work.

So it's time to get started, feed Mr G and start the bedroom and closet.

Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

OH OH Two starting posts this morning! I'm expecting a cloudy day and hot and muggy again. The AC will come again when it hits about 78-80 in the house!

Judi...Fresh tomatoes from the garden? Oh I'm so envious!! I've often made a little salad like that---cukes, onion, celery, shred carrots, tomatoes, maybe green olives with a little splash of Olive Garden dressing! So refreshing. Honeycomb blocks? Like Hexagons? Are you going to hand embroider on each one? I've heard that about rain on a wedding day! It rained the morning both when Shawn got married in Hawaii ( still married 21 years) and when Jen got married to Michael in 2010.(married 7yrs) kind of 50-50 results.

Lyn.... Wave when you go by!! Prayers for safe and uneventful travel today.

Lois.... Condolences to Melissa. Hope you get all your Grace machine issues figured out. Viv has an APQS LA machine and from time to time they even made a house call to help her fix things!

Valerie... When you through Rapid City, SD Look for South Dakota School of Mines---that's where my grand kids will be! It's about a 9 hour drive from here to there. I forget what town your nephew is in? Gas up here has been hovering around $2.99-$3.12 or so a gallon. Your Nephew is somewhere "up north" but if you get from his house to I-94 that's pretty much all you need to get to my house. I'm 2 miles from I-94

Diane... Watched the news last night a bit on Miss Erin... hopefully she skips on by, though I imagine you will get a fair amount of rain.

Maryz... The d/w I have now does that the 3rd upper rack and I do like that feature. Most come that way now it seems. I do think I'm going to just go up to Home Depot and look for a brand new one. Tom, being the appliance person he is---did a lot of research and that's his advice. He recommends a Whirlpool. I did look at a KitchenAid, but they were out of price range. I think HD has a Whirlpool on sale even now. But I have to wait until Shawn and Kris are available to put it in for me. They are busy this week! You're so blessed to have Bill. Was he able to fix up your computer? Or did you decide on a new one? How is the PT going?

Jana.... What a wonderful weekend you had!! I just love looking at pictures of folks through the years! Now if it just weren't so stinkin' hot you could sit and relax on your beautiful new deck!!

Chriss... Thinking you today as you go to your CT scan! Hopefully they can read it, and get the scheduling department to call you STAT to schedule your surgery! Lots and lots of prayers coming your way today!! I always fainted when I bought coffee the last time! I might have to drastically cut back on my coffee as well. I make 12 cups, and tho I don't drink ALL of it... I do drink most and I like it relatively strong!! As much as I Love dogs, townhouse rules limit dogs to under 35lb--which is little itty things and I don't care for itty bitty dogs.. I want a DOG!! like a black lab!!! And besides, they are really fussy around here about cleaning up poo. And I like to be able to come and go at the drop of a hat without worrying about a dog etc. Tho I do miss having that companionship!

Lori.... Your "Witchy Manor" Is so stinkin' cute!! I'm not a Halloween person but Viv sure is.. .she would LOVE that pattern. Viv grew up in Anoka, MN which is supposedly the "Halloween Capital of the World" https://anokahalloween.com/halloween/. I always have my eyes open for Halloween stuff for her!

Oh dear, it's after 10: and I haven't done a thing. There are dishes soaking the sink, so I'll start there.... then it's a toss up as to what gets done after that. I started working on aprons yesterday and will probably continue with that project. I have plenty of time so I do a few at a time, I can do other things as well. ADD you know!

Wishing you all the very best day!

b]Good morning,

LOIS -sorry to hear Melissa lost her father. How far away do they live from you?

LORI - your Witchy quilt is cute. Does it seem weird to be sewing Halloween stuff and have to turn on the A/C? And yep, my Bill is pretty handy. He can build stuff - like our 24x36 foot shop - repair almost anything, assemble a computer from parts and pieces, and bravely take on a ready-made family with 3 teenagers. But he cannot scramble an egg. When I have my hip surgeries, I plan to freeze several meals ahead of time.

CHRISS - do you have another dr appt on the calendar or are you just still waiting to hear? Your zucchini rounds with pasta sauce on top don't sound too bad, except for the zucchini part. :D Have you tried making eggplant parmesan? I've made it a few times. Not wonderful (at least mine wasn't) but it was OK. I browned thin egg plant slices in olive oil, then proceeded as if it were chicken. My question is, my recipe calls for mozzarella cheese on top. But it's called egg plant parmesan. I love my coffee in the mornings. But I don't drink a lot - 1 cup and I pour a second but don't usually drink it all. And I like my coffee with powdered Coffeemate in it.

LYN - welcome back to the USA!! I pray the rain stops and all your travels go well today. Thank you for posting Diane's photo.

JUDI - sounds like that party place was awesome for kids and adults! And now you have an awesome 3 yr old!! You have your honeycombs all prepped and ready to sew. Nice! I got 50 white pods prepped yesterday. I need to iron them all today. That is a grand total of 90 made. 185 left to go. Sigh.

DIANE - what a great picture! of the quilt and of you! Hope you are feeling OK>

MARY Q - nice to know someone else's house is looking like ours - we have little Scottie and Foxy puffs everywhere. I pick them up when I see them. At least they shed in puffs and not individual hairs. So have you decided if you are going to replace your dishwasher or keep washing by hand? Or are you waiting to see prices come Labor Day sales to decide? If you go shopping, that third top rack for large utensils, lids, etc that the new dishwashers have now is a great feature - just sayin'.

JANA - what a thoughtful gift your family gave you! We need a picture of that!

VAL - glad those new mattresses arrived and are set up. Now if you could just get some good word on your pick-up! I hope your hubby is right about it coming back to you this week. As to your CW question: When I looked more closely at Judi's pattern and mine for the white pods, I see we're doing it differently - Here is a tutorial that shows the method I used. There are a lot of ads in it - sorry about that. https://www.handmadiya.com/2022/01/cath ... orial.html This is exactly how I made mine. I used a bit of glue stick to hold the colored squares in place while I hand stitched them down.

So, yesterday I prepped 50 white CW pods. I'll press them today. Not sure what else I'll be doing. Bill has the QOV about 1/3 quilted. He makes 2 or 3 LA passes a day so it's going to be a few more days before he finishes it. I have the binding and label all ready when he does. I also have 4 sets of Lotto and Swap blocks that need to be assembled. But I think I'll just check them out, pull some fabrics for sashing and borders, and bag them all to take to TX. It will be time to start packing the trailer soon.

I'm still waiting for my doctor's office to call with arrangements for the steroid shot in my back. I've left two messages so far. It's been 19 days since my orthopedic appt. We're set to leave in 26 days. If I don't hear from them this morning, I'll leave another message again this afternoon. Frustrating.

Last night my younger sister's step-daughter from her first marriage was here visiting Lee & Lara. It was so good to see her again, and meet her husband. She was only about 6 yrs old last time I saw her and now she's 53. LOTS of catching up to do! So happy hour was filled with lots of HH snacks. They didn't leave until 8pm so we skipped supper. Tonite will finally be those pierogis with alfredo sauce.

I hope we all get to fondle some fabric today!

Maryz, I'm usually sewing Halloween and Christmas quilts in Summer, so no it's not weird that the A/C is on. I sure hope you hear back from the doctor about treatment. It seems they are taking their time. Bill still hasn't heard back from the people who sent him the heart monitor. Chriss had hers at the same time. I assembled all my lotto blocks as they came in. I still have one top that needs quilting. Hi there Mr. Foxy.

Lois, bummer you machine is acting up. Hopefully it's a easy fix.

Maryq, would you like the pattern? I'm not going to make it again. Our dishwasher has a third rack and I really like that. Black labs are the best. I didn't know there was a Halloween Capitol of the world. Wow...I would love to go there.

Chriss, hope everything comes out the way it should for the CT and you get moving along. Waiting is the hardest part. What will you do with Moose when your recovering? Will he go with you to your dads?

Jana, if you start searching now for you patio furniture, you'll be sure to find it by spring. I bet those collages were great.

Diane, fingers crossed. The new said it would stay out to sea. Hope you get to make your gifts soon.

Valerie, I used to cross stitch before I started quilting. I did some really nice pieces, but it seems so boring to me now. I have one that's been half done for 30 years. I should just give it away and let someone else finish it.

Lyn, safe travels. How long does it take to get to Colorado?

Judi, sounds like Navy had a blast. I've never been to one of those places.

The boys have been walked. I cleaned yesterday, so that's done. I think I will layer my Witchy Manor and for quilting. It's only 40x 45 so it should be easy. I have a spider web stencil I could use. It's supposed to heat up this week into the 90's, so I'll be doing inside things. Dinner will be chicken on the grill with potatoes and onions, and fresh broccoli.

Have a lovely day.
