Morning
Judi, cooler here too! Maybe I will bake some bread too.
Has anyone heard from Velvet? If anyone has her phone number, can you please let her know I sent mine to her on the message board here and for her to contact me. Thanks!
Today I babysit so not sure what will get done.

Re: August 1st already Friday
Good morning,
JUDI - you are right - time is flying by! School doesn't start until after Labor Day here, so the kids have another month of summer left. You are doing your CW's by hand, aren't you? After machine prepping them? I still haven't decided which method I plan to use when I make mine, but I'm enjoying watching all the videos I'm finding on-line. I love your American quilt. It doesn't look particularly feminine to me, but then I didn't zoom in on all the different fabrics.
CAROL - we enjoyed our Sloppy Joe's two nights in a row, have enough frozen for two more nights, and the last bit of sauce left is going into spaghetti sauce for tonite. Yum!! You are as busy as ever with your sewing and your sewing group! How is your kitty doing?
MARY Q - after handwashing dishes for another month, you will know if you want another dishwasher or not. My younger sister, Teese, just remodeled her very small kitchen last year and chose not to add a dishwasher (she's never had one), but to use the space for a pop out and up cupboard that holds her Kitchenaid instead. She is a big time cookie baker and said she'd rather wash dishes than give counterspace to her mixer or keep lifting it.
VAL - sorry, no extra books or fabric here. I hope you find it somewhere more convenient than my sewing room! I've lost fabric when I've picked up another project to put away or in a bag, tote, or pile. Check all your other WIPs.
FLO - did you get your gutters on yet? Diane (velvet) only checks in sporadically so hopefully she will stop by again soon and pick up your message.
LOIS - what comes after Minecraft? Going back to Snowman?
CHRISS - we missed you yesterday.
I still have a total of 23 comfort quilts that I put together from all the donations of blocks from everyone in this group. However, only 4 of them are quilted and bound. So I've started trying to get the rest quilted (or as many as I can). I got one done yesterday. Hope to get another one done today. After our forum discussion a few months back, it was decided to donate most of them to a charity. I have enough batting to finish about 10 and Mary Q has a worthwhile cancer charity that would be grateful for them, so I'm trying to finish up as many as I can and plan to drop them off with her as we pass through MN on our trip. Each top takes me about 4 hours to load, quilt, trim, and bind so it's going to be a big job. So with this and my QOV (Hero's Stars) that I'm making for Lee I'm managing to keep busy! I also want to learn more about Cathedral Windows and get a big pile of them prepped to take to Texas because right now, I don't have many projects to take along with me. Just KT Christmas Vintage Sampler but I'm still waiting for that to ship. And I'm still working on Lee's QOV (Hero's Stars). So many HSTs in this project! Not my favorite things to do. I have 6 weeks to get all this done. Unless . . . . . see next paragraph..
Orthopedic appt yesterday held some surprises for me. None of them good. It looks like I need two hip replacements and back surgery (laminectomy) on L-2,3,4,& 5. Right now the plan is to get a shot in my back and get 6 weeks of PT and hope that holds me through our trip. We'll be home the end of January and then I have a rather unpleasant year to look forward to. But, if things keep getting worse, we may have to cancel the trip - after canceling it about 10 times over the last 20 years already. So, it would appear that it wasn't the Losartan that was causing my muscle and joint pain after all.
Supper tonite is going to be spaghetti. I'm going to toss the last 3/4 cup "joe" sauce into the spaghetti sauce. A quick and easy meal - my favorite!
Have a super day! It's weekend-eve!

Re: August 1st already Friday
Good morning!
Yippee it's August! Praying for our monsoons to kick in. My MIL always said that it rained starting the first of August and that any family reunion had to be before then!
Not much here. I helped Karlie put a second coat of the barn red on the handrails last night. She's a good helper. Daniel drilled the holes for the screws in the rail, so he's ready for that step. Aaron is coming by to help carry some of the heavy sections back across the street for final paint. Then tomorrow,, back again. Sarah was over looking for pictures. Not having much luck. The one thing she found was some of the linens that was my mom's had gotten some mold spots. Uggh! So after the party and were putting everything away, for the 100th celebration, we'll go through and see exactly the damage and if we can save them.
Trash is to the street and the rest of my uglies done, so it time to head to the Batt Cave. Mr G says that my freezers are stuffed with no room for anything. I know better, so will go straighten them up.
My Highlander has a issue with the back hatch not opening all the way. Only about halfway up, so Daniel thinks he can reprogram the computer, it's stuck, and fix that. Otherwise, it's a trip to the dealership next week.
Off to get going,
Hugs,
Jana

Re: August 1st already Friday
Good Morning!
It's a lovely lovely day!! I cherish every one of these mild temp days! As I am NOT looking forward to the snow and ice and winter coats and hats and boots and mittens. You get the idea!
Judi... Folks are getting ready to go back to school here too! Bren and Evie will head to the same college on the 20th. Eli starts school in AK on the 18th or so---he will go back to school with another broken arm---3rd time he's broken an arm. Corinne and Nolan go back day after labor day! Between you and Maryz, you've got me thinking about a CW too! I googled--there's several videos on You tube I might have to check out!
Flo, I have Diane's phone and address--tho I hesitate to give it out without her permission, but if you don't hear from her, let me know. You will probably be a great support for her in these uncertain days.
Maryz... Gosh, I'm so sorry you didn't get better news at the Dr yesterday!!! I so hope the shot and PT will get you through so that you don't have to cancel your trip!! I am really looking forward to having company!! OH I hear you about HSTs--so many ways to get the square, but my fave is the block lock ruler! perfect every time!
Jana..... If you haven't thought of this yet, try soaking those linens in vinegar water. Do you remember the old fashioned Lysol cleaner--not the pine stuff but regular? I used that once to get out stinky smells and mold and it worked pretty good too!
While I'd love to type off a note to each of you.. I need to move my you-know-what and get a little shine up around here. Peg is stopping by and then we are going to try the new Mexican restaurant just up the road. I've heard it's very good. After that I'll come and get finish laundry. Not sure I'll get here in the morning. Have to get up early and hit the road to get up to my brothers by noon---there's a farmers market I'd love to check out right down the road from his house. I'm going to stay over night at a little hotel down the road so won't be home until Sunday.
Wishing you all a great weekend!!

Re: August 1st already Friday
Maryq, how was the new restaurant? Have a fun little trip tomorrow.
Jana, sometimes men miss that things just need to be tidied up to make room. Hope the hatch is an easy fix.
Maryz, that's a lot of quilt tops. I have 7 quilts complete ready to head out to charity and a few more in the queue. Oh my that's a lot going on with your body. Bill had the laminectomy on L4-5 about 11-12 years ago. It didn't last long. He does core exercises to keep him moving. So far they help. He works out everyday. Both of your hips? Is it painful to walk? I say take your trip now if you can.
Flo, have fun with the kids.
Judi, it seem like it was just January. Sounds like you will have nice weather today.
I haven't had to turn on the A/C yet. They keep saying it's going to get hot, but so far it's only got up to 84. Looks like next week might be hot. We got out walk in and then I did a bit of grocery shopping. The other day my appointment with SSA was a bust. They thought I was there to replace my card. She said they we're able to sign me up for Medicare at that time and made me a new phone appt for September 2. Government offices are so pathetic here in CA. There always seems to be a problem. I really wanted this to be done with. Oh well. I cleaned out the closet in the spare room yesterday. I'll tackle the bedroom closet this weekend. It needs to be emptied and cleaned. Dinner will be baked potatoes w/chili on them.
Have a lovely day.

Re: August 1st already Friday
Good afternoon. My last few days have been full of busy. Seems I wake up and have something I need to do or someplace to go.
Yesterday was spent with Elliott. My son took us to Rhyme Time. Something their library puts on. It was fun, toddlers and babies. Cute how the toddlers get up close to the person doing the singing and holding the puppet. It was lots of fun.
There is a hawk living near here who has some youngsters. This morning I saw her perched on a telephone pole while her two babies were flying. They would try to land and she'd make a noise at them and they kept flying. I love nature.
Valerie, well? did you find the pattern and fabric? They aren't lingering with my appointments because I am not letting them linger. I do have to say I am happy with the team I have taking care of me. So glad I chose the primary doctor that I chose, he gets things moving. Cottage Cheese is my new thing. I've been getting some amazing peaches, my gosh just thinking aobut it makes my mouth water. I think it's a good idea that you tell DBIL of your travel plans. He can get in home health care help. You could be there before and after your trip.
Maryz, well dang, sorry about the hips and back. That sounds like a lot of surgery. So glad Bill is there to help you. You might give him cooking lessons for Christmas. I think taking the quilts to MQ is a great idea.
Jana, My car's hatchback thing will lift all the way or you can set it to only open a specific height, maybe yours does the same? Hope it's an easy fix.
Maryq, enjoy your time with your family. I love that you are having a group photo honoring a promise to your mom. I vote for no dishwasher. I haven't used mine in forever.
Lori, Your local HICAP office can help you with Medicare and it's free. When do you turn 65? It's been hot enough for A/C here. It's 96 at 3:15, Not only is the A/C on there is a fan blowing on me because when I get hot I get grumpy. Did you find any treasures in that closet?
The mail truck just drove by so Moose and I will go for a walk. Then I will fix myself some dinner. I bought steaks the other day, it's a 3pack so I will freeze two and broil one. Baked potato, sauteed mushrooms with onion. It will be wonderful.
You girls have a wonderful day, see you tomorrow
