SATURDAY, June 28th

Good morning,

It's 64* here this morning at 0530. Going to be a pretty nice day! Very enjoyable to take you all out on our deck with me this morning to have our coffee together :D ☕

JUDI - when you finish your Cathedral Windows quilt, how big will it be? Remember Carole from Arizona who's DD lived in SC and had four kids? She did a beautiful queen sized CW quilt. But it took her years I believe. Do you need a "direction writing refresher" from the directions you wrote out for me a few years ago? They are within reach of my sewing machine - easy to fetch. Seriously considering taking a CW project to Texas with me this winter.

LORI - Do you have any projects, hand or machine, in progress right now or are you still "on break"? I'm so glad your "back snag" is easing up.

MARY Q - those little bits of thread that travel with you to other parts of the house (to the grocery store, church, and doctor appts!)? They are called "ORTS", or Odd Random Threads or Odd Ratty Threads. I find them on the dog when we're out walking, even! Some people collect all these bits of threads and keep them in an Ort Jar. Or fill clear plastic ornaments with them and hang them on their Christmas tree. By the way, if you're into saving bits like this, some folks save all the ears they cut off HST's in an ear jar. I think Georgia Bonesteel is one of those folks. You will be leaving for AK soon! I ordered a new T-fal iron today. Crossing fingers!

CHRISS - What did you do yesterday? Have you done much cooking on your stove yet? I hope you love it!

LYN - sorry you have another headache to face when you get back to the Colorado house. It seems it's always raining on you! Is Baudette, MN just over the border from where you are? Would it be easier, and maybe cheaper, to sell the boat and get a different one in Texas when the time comes rather than transport it?

JANA - I would LOVE to have a pantry like yours! There would be room for my appliances, canning supplies, food, broom, etc. When I was little we visited my mom's cousin in Issaquah and they had a pantry at least that size. It had a freezer in it, and countertops with upper and lower cupboards. My sisters and I still talk and dream of that pantry! But on a more important note - did you get to sew yesterday? You have cooing doves and we have crowing roosters. I love the sound of both.

LOIS - your butterfly quilt is lovely! I saw it on QIAD Girls site.

VAL - You are probably busy sewing or trip planning. Do all your projects have to be finished before you hit the road or do you just want them finished? I plan to take a couple of hand projects along with us when we go - cross stitch, yo-yo's and maybe even that Cathedral Window. I can do the latter two in the truck as we travel. My eyes won't let me do cross-stitch while we bounce a long anymore. Not to mention all the dog hair that gets stitched into the project!

I ended up doing laundry yesterday because I had to wash all the fabric that blankety-blank iron leaked on, and I didn't want to run a small load. Then I replaced my ironing board cover. It needed replacing anyway so I can't really blame that on the B-B iron. Then I trimmed my "River" quilt, made the binding, and finished my sample Christmas Swap block - which I decided I will NOT be doing. It's paper pieced and I made so many mistakes (one I made 3 times!). I think for now I'm burned out on paper piecing! So I'll be looking for another, simpler, block today. The kids brought an appetizer and bottle of wine over for HH and we sat and visited for a couple hours. Guess I shouldn't call them the 'kids', but rather the 'new neighbors'. They are leaving July 7 for two weeks for their maiden outing.

We got a call last night from good friends in Bend, OR. Jay & Jackie. They are coming to visit in their RV July 10 for 3 nights. This means gathering up all our mutual friends for a big BBQ. It also means I need to get my lazy self in gear working in the yard! I do have my young man coming to help with that but not until after July 11, so timing isn't purrfect. But it will be what it will be and I won't really care that much. I'm just using this event as incentive to pull those weeds.

Today's plan - gardening! (that sounds like so much more fun than 'yardwork', don't you think?) And maybe label and bind River, clean my sewing room, choose another block, and perhaps start on my next Amara Baby Clothes block. I want to take a little mauve 2-piece outfit she wore a lot (with rhumba ruffles on the tushy), stuff it with some batting for a 3-D effect, applique it to a background that I'm going to make with sky and grass fabrics. Add "hair" and shoes so it looks like her from the back and she'll be holding a 3-D balloon made from another little tee-shirt. It will be the focus block of this project. In my mind it's going to look great. 🤞

Supper will be the shish-ka-bob that I didn't make last night. After snacks with the kids we weren't too hungry and it was kind of late so we had bacon and eggs instead.

It's the weekend! Relax, refresh, and fill next week's bobbins!

Good morning!

Up early, have company coming for the day. Our BIL is here, staying at Daniel's and Karlie will be over for the day. It's a busy day for my kids. Becky sold her manufactured home up in Layton and has to have everything out she wants today. So my kids are helping with that. Becky was going to put everything in Sandee's house, but Sandee said no, so Becky got a storage unit near by here. Then I found out that Sandee sold Snoopy, her truck and will be selling the trailer too. She doesn't use them. Only took the trailer out twice. We all knew that would be the case. Sandee got a very good price for Snoopy. Even with the repairs that needed to be done. Seems as if certain year Dodge diesels have lots of issues!

So part of my day here will be chauffeur over to a train shop. BIL, his name is Jim, does model trains too. He's a big collector of trains. Then back here. Karlie will tag along with me too. I'm beginning to think, sewing, what's that? 😀 Jim will go to church in our Ward tomorrow with us. Then head back to California.

So I'm off to fix breakfast, bacon, eggs, and croissants.

Hugs,
Jana

Looks like a nice day, but the wind is picking up.

MaryZ, Yes, Baudette is on the Border, just west of International Falls, MN. We prefer to cross there because at International Falls the paper company owns the bridge and you have to pay to come into Canada, but not going out of Canada. I talked with a guy that crossed with his MH and they charged him $19, based on the number of wheels. It would cost us more, we have more wheels. Also, the smaller crossing in Baudette/Rainy River has nicer Border agents on both sides. As for the boat, it will be cheaper to haul it to Texas. We couldn't afford a new boat. And sell  I can't get Garry to let anything go. When I talk about selling the Colorado house or his Harley Trike he can't ride, he comes back with, "You just want to sell all my stuff, why don't you get rid of your quilting crap." My answer is that I'm using my quilting stuff.

Lois, Your butterfly is very pretty.

We didn't get out fishing yesterday. GD Kaylyn had taken the 07' Jeep to Ft Collins for an oil change and transmission flush and I had to have phone service when they called to get paid. So, I pulled up info on the two boilers and started researching them. We walked to the office and bought our fishing licenses, then visited with friends across the road.

We're supposed to have storms this afternoon, so I'm not sure if we'll go fishing or not. If we don't, I or we will run up to Kenora 50 miles north. They have a Walmart, Safeway and Canadian Tire which sells everything not just tires. Garry's razor quit yesterday, so I need to buy him a new one.

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy your day.
Lyn

Good morning I just finished a batch of chocolate chip cookies for the rink rats, fondly the guys at the ice rink. Ken will take them in monday if he oesnt eat them all.
I now have a bathroom to clean and then the birds to feed. we have hada lot of rain here but it is sunny and 80 now. I hope we have more temperate weather the heat was begining to get to everyone around here,,,Ken is much better and after the chiro got him stightened out he is making a tailors clapper,,,My friend asked for one and why not ill take one too...It supposedly gives you nice flat seams after ironing, Ken has tons of scrap hard wood in the shop ( his stash) so he can make a few. He will be only at the rink this week so he works short hours there plenty of time to make stuff I say,
Today is what is known here as the "Dream Cruise" People take their classic cars and trucks and drive up and down the main road downriver,,,(that is a selection of cities near the detroir river) there gun their engines and generally have a lot of fun showing off their vehicles....we Liam and Ken may take 'Big Red" down later this afternoon. Im not sure if I will be invited or not... Some very classic 1960s cars and trucks are in the cruise, and a lot of food trucks and vendors set up along the roadway, We shall see. it starts at about noon. but Ken wont go down till about 3, it runs into the evening,
Im off to clean and feed the birds,,,we havent had the fancy birds around this year like previous years,,,apparently th e bird flu did a number on our song birds here,,,I am told...My friend has blue birds but I havent had any here, No finches either,
Have a great day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

Good morning Girls

Oh gosh, it's after 10 here already! I was kind of brousing around the inter-web for a minute and lost track of time. But I do have the 2nd load of laundry in already!! Found a couple cute shirts at Goodwill yesterday and I ALWAYS wash stuff from there before I wear it!

Maryz... Back in 2022 when I first got my embroidery machine, I discovered that I always had a lot of little threads at the beginning of a project and sometimes what I had to trim off--so I grabbed a quart mason jar and stuffed all the misc. threads in the jar! It's almost full! Fun to see all the pretty colors of thread. When it gets totally full, I just might put a cover on it and grab a new jar and start over! Is there room in your drive way for another camper? Is L & L's parked over on the side of your garage where Sue and Kenn parked when I was there?

Jana.... If I remember correctly, Becky was going to live with Sandee for a while? Another train collector--oh boy, I can imagine what the conversation is around your house when Jim visits!

Lyn... The paper company owns the bridge? Does it really smell bad around there--I'm guessing there is a paper plant there too. I used to drive through Cloquet all the time going between the cities and Eveleth (where we lived --gag-gag) and it always stunk so bad. I remember Shawn loved Canadian tire when they lived in Calgary!

Lori.... Glad to hear you like Kristen Hannah. I've been trying to look for more of them at Goodwill or Thriftbooks.com. I have "the Four Winds" and I'm taking that on the plane with me. Have you read and Lisa Wingate? She's another one I like.

Chriss... Can I twist your arm to join our Christmas Block Swap?

Today there is a big birthday/retirement party for Sara's folks--they live practically within spitting distance of my house. Sara's dad owned and ran an old fashioned butcher shop for about 40 years and just sold it here this spring. As soon as the wash is done I'll have something decent to wear. I had planned on one outfit, but then heard the temp is supposed to hit 92, so am rethinking my choice--from long black pants to capris and a short sleeve shirt! In the meantime I guess I'll just go sew something--there's a few options around here. Oh and I suppose I could wash the dishes. Looks like I won't get d/w repaired until I get home! Found and LG authorized dealer, but have to pay another "trip garage" to have them come out and say "yes you need a new control panel" then wait for parts and pay another $250 for labor! Still think it would be easier to get a whole new dishwasher!!!

time to crank up the music!!!
Have a great day every one!

Maryq, I read the "Four Winds" it was a good one. I had "True Colors" on my book shelf, so that's what I'm reading now. Bummer about the dishwasher. I bet it would be more cost effective to buy a new one. We had the control panel go out on our oven 9 months after we bought it. They replace it for more than the oven cost. It was under warranty so it didn't cost us anything.

Judi, glad Ken is better. Yes, a clapper makes the seams nice and flat. I use it on the bulky seams and it works really well.

Lyn, Bill has a bunch of glass and mosaic supplies that have been sitting in the garage for 5 years untouched. I just don't even go there.

Jana, Seems like everyone wants to use Sandee's house for storage. Glad she said no. It's smart of her to sell the trailer and truck if she's not using it. Hope you get to see the sewing room soon.

Maryz, gardening does sound much nice. I pulled out the Christmas quilt I had done a few months ago. I trimmed it an cut some binding. I'll try and get the binding on today. I'm just pulling things out of the closet that need to be done. I might grab my Christmas fabrics and see what I can do with them.

Valerie, what's going on with you today?

Chriss, have you been cooking up a storm on your new stove?

My back has quieted down. Glad it didn't get too bad. It's supposed to be hot for a few days, so I'll have to close up the house. That's when I will sew. Once the A/C is on. I need to clean the bathroom today, but other than that I have no definite plans. Dinner will be the teriyaki chicken and rice I didn't cook last night.

Have a lovely day.

Just -
I have one of those wooden clclappers and love it! I also have a wooden iron. El uses it for small seams. It's great too. No heat and is about a inch wide with a angled edge. Ken could easily make those too, look on Qiad to see one.

What a great day today was.

I took my chair in to be stripped. The people own a feed store, tire shop and do furniture restoring. They are closing the feed store and everything in it was half off. I found a package of 3 pair of work gloves and got it for $8. I'll never have to buy gloves again. There were also a few other stores in that town (North Fork) It was fun. Then we went to lunch and home. It was a really nice day.

Yesterday was busy, I got a few things done here and then took my stepmom to get her hair done then she wanted to have us all go for something to eat. I followed her and dad into town and we had a late lunch.

That's two whole days full of carbs. I need to get back on track. My pants aren't tight yet but I hate trying to get into them the same way you stuff a pillow into a pillowcase.

When the sun goes down a a bit more Moose and I will water. He likes to fight with the water that comes out of the hose. And if it cools off enough we will feed the squirrels another round of what I am calling a hot toddy. It's got cayenne pepper and pepper flakes and other things in it. I don't think I got all of their holes yesterday.

Maryq, yes. The thyroid doctor did an ultrasound and the biopsy right there. He will call me in a week or so with the results. I was amazed. Monday I will go get some blood work done to have evaluate the funchtion of it? I don't know, it will be whatever it will be. A new dishwasher might just be easier and cheaper than all the trouble LG is giving you. Nope, not going to do the Christmas swap this year.

Maryz, in my mind your Amara baby clothes quilt looks good too. Sounds adorable.

Jana, selling the trailer is a wise decision. I used to think it would be fun to travel in a trailer but then I see the repairs everyone is needing to do and I'm glad I don't have one. But then I am not a great traveler either.

Judi, we've had less birds here too. I haven't seen many Robins, there are sill a lot of Doves and a Mocking bird lives here now. We have a blue jay who seems to be the boss. Maybe i's just too hot for the birds. You have dream cruise, we have American Graffiti, it's fun to see the old cars.

Lori, it seems that since I've had this stove I've only made a couple of things. I thaw something out then go out to eat. It is so unlike me to eat out, but it's been a busy few days. We also have a wall oven that the control board went out on. Soon dad and I will take it out and turn it into cupboards.

Well it's after 7:30 and still 92 degrees outside. I am going to water two trees, one bush and maybe the garden. I am so thankful that the hot weather is only for a short time. It seems like it lasts forever but I have a/c and am quite comfy.

Good night,
Chriss
