Good morning,

We are 63* this morning so at 4:30, it's quite comfortable out on the deck. Nice!

LOIS - glad you decided to start on Mr. Snowman. When I did mine, even though I had the measurements I was still surprised at how big he was! What is Sandi working on?

MARY Q - I love sewing outside. But if there's any breeze small pieces of fabric can blow away if you don't weigh them down with something or keep them in a container. When we shopped for granite countertops, they had all kinds of colors - cream with gold swirls, grays, tans, browns. We ended up choosing black with some flecks and speckles. And because it was from a quarry where it was easy to extract, it happened to be the "cheapest" for that reason. And it was almost - not quite - as cheap as the most expensive formica. Formica has come a long way. I remember my parents old kitchen before they remodeled when I was 12, their countertops were floor linoleum! I kind of like cutting fabric, too. But choosing/pulling fabrics is my best fun. I guess actual sewing comes third.

JUDI - I suppose I'm late to the party planning your dinner last night, but why not make a pizza, using your leftover chicken (use white, alfredo, or BBQ sauce) and a small salad on the side. I know you are very proud of Nolan and rightfully so! Both those boys are so special! I am surprised, though, that they let Nolan pass meds in the SNC. The one I worked in, only RN's could pass meds.

JANA - Congratulations to Andrew! I know he'll do well! And to Gracie and her team! Fast pitch? How old is she?? And what's Lila up to these days? Haven't heard a Lila story in a while.

VAL - I also designed one whole wall of my counterspace and cabinets - back in 1989 - and at the same time I had the ugly cabinets that were already in place when I bought this house re-faced with oak for a fraction of the cost of replacing them. And old appliances are the best! My Maytag washer/dryer are about 32 years old and going strong. I pray they never die. They aren't fancy - they just wash and dry. Our fridge is a Sansung, 4 years old - bought on line, sight unseen, during the height of Covid. It is HUGE! We had to remove the cabinets above it to fit it in. I can barely reach the top shelf, It has french doors, which I hate, but a bottom freezer, also with french doors, which I love. The ice maker is a joke and often quits. I finally decided yesterday I'm going to just get some good trays and make ice the old fashioned way.

CHRISS - I actually like moving - the purging, the packing, but most fun of all, is setting up a new house! Of course, the last time I moved, I was 34 years old. Now that I'm 74 years old maybe I won't like it quite as much. My stove is a GE Adora and I love it. The two front burners can be heated as large or small burners. It's very simple, just cooks or bakes. I can even set the clock and the timer! The fanciest thing is the self-cleaning feature, which, of course, any person would love. I bought it in 2008. We'd invited friends to supper but 2 days before my old stove died. We hurried to Home Depot, chose this one, and as we were doing the paperwork to buy it we noticed the sales person's last name. She was the niece of the friends who were coming to supper! As for black, no one was more surprised than I to find us choosing black appliances and countertops. I still like them. They don't show fingerprints, etc., as much as white or stainless steal. I just wish I could find my phone when it's sitting on that black counter! I looked at the stove you are considering and I think it's one I would choose. It looks like the updated gas version of the one I have now. And I love cooking with gas, though ours is electric.

LYN - a fifth, warmer burner might be nice! I use the warm setting on one of my back burners occasionally, and also on my crockpot. Do you think you'll be getting away on Wed? Have you checked the smoke situation further north? Thanks for resending that topper pattern. I think it's purrfect! Once again, you've donned your cape and saved the day!

LORI - you are off to your friend's today! have fun!!

Yesterday we stripped the bed, washed the sheets, towels, and the 2 days of dirties that had accumulated. We were 85* so I put it all on the lines. Everything smells so nice! Then I made a practice table topper from the pattern Lyn sent me and if I'm asked to teach another quilting class, this will be a purrfect project!. After that I helped Bill as he cut limbs and branches that were starting to encroach on the driveway. We'll be bringing Lee & Lara's big 40' trailer down the driveway on Wed. They did finally arrive but only stayed about 1/2 hour. They wanted to see Drew who is working swing shift now and yesterday was his only evening off. They are coming back this morning to start hauling the stuff that isn't going into the trailer to storage. Our supper was leftover quiche lorraine that I'd made the day before. I don't know what today's plan is. A surprise, I guess! Tonite we're going to grill chicken, with rice and salad on the side. It's going to be another 85* day and then we'll start on a gradual cooling trend. 85 is a little too warm for me, but I cam handle it for a couple of days.

I hope everyone has a day full of filled bobbins!

Good morning everyone

Chriss that looks like a pretty nice stove. I have electric, wish it was gas but that would mean having gas lines installed. What do I hate about my stove? Well I have a "Fast" boil and a "rapid" boil burner and neither are very fast at all. It's a glass top and really hard to keep clean. I don't think the Convection cooks any faster than the regular. It's a Samsung and I guess Samsung should stick to making phones. I love my fridge although do wish it was bigger at times. Especially around the holidays.

Lyn Lowe's web site is working this morning, I wonder if they go down periodically for updates. My middle burner in the back is just a warmer also.

Maryz my washer and dryer are 23 years old. The dryer has been fine, a few repairs here and then but the washer really is trying to quit. I have a maintenance agreement though so they do continue to fix it. I imagine soon all the parts will be new again. If they ever can't fix it, they have to provide me with a new one. They are both large front loaders as I bought them when all the kids lived here. I have my route pretty much worked out, as soon as my new card gets here I will start making reservations. I think we will be able to go to our first choices and still get back in time for DH to go back to work.

I have got 12 blocks for my Ryan's Sampler done. It is easy going but does not give pressing directions so having to figure that out as I go along. That is slowing things a bit. I may do some more today before I go to MAD Monday. We make charity quilts at MAD Monday. I will make the binding for my last one and then figure out the next. We have donated fabric and much of it is just scraps so some limitations as to patterns.

I am watching a program from a PBS like station about 60's music. Current singer is doing "If you come to San Francisco". Haight Ashbury days. When we went to the city we always wanted Dad to take us there, it never happened. Of course I understand now, but didn't then. Really like that old folk music. I also just realized that the song Turn, Turn, Turn is based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. My brother in law read that at Dad's funeral. I should listen to the words more often I guess.

Off to make some breakfast, get some more coffee and maybe sew a bit before I leave. Have a great day everyone.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Good morning as usual I hit the floor running, I have a lot to do today, 4 errands to run laundry to do and that binding still isnt done. I have 3 loads going so I am headed to the grocery store, the Hallmark store, the credit union, and the pharmacy not in that order...but then i can come home and finish the laundry, Sunday is always sheet changing day at our house too...I strip the bed and Ken remakes...(I sometimes help) sometime i wash on sunday ( my mother is turning over in her grave) We never did houseowrk or laundry on sunday sometime I hit it after Ken leaves for work.
I am off to get all this done...Supper tonight will be at my oldest sons house for Sarah's Birthday I believe she is 27 today,,Piping in on the stove I bought a basic GE and I hate it...first off it has a steam cleaning oven (you pour water into a well inside and it supposedly steam cleans your oven I does next to nothing,,,secondly I didnt realize the broiler was UNDER the oven I would have to lay on the floor to use it. So I basicallt dont have a broiler, and I miss that,,,I bought it because we needed a new stove and it was on sale ( now I know why!) I wish it would die and I curse it daily. Im the cheap one in the family and always buy the least expensive model...boy I am sorry i did
....
,Hope you all have a happy Monday, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Morning
Decking removed from back porch roof, today we reframe it.
Maryz, our house is 1400 sq feet, 3 bedroom 2 bath, 2 car garage. We heard thru grapevine someone out here with metal roof that didn't have new screws every few yrs and such insurance claim rejected on it. So we checked with our insurance agent and made the decision to go to regular shingles.
Time to run, things to do before I go outside to work.

Good morning!

OK, stoves. I have the expensive brand. I absolutely love, and will not give up my JennAir! I have had three. Why three? The first was a remodel of my Concord house. It was a gas and had interchangeable burner units. I had a unit that was a indoor grill. Loved that! The range had a built in venting system, downdraft, so I never had a over the stove hood vent. It went down, out under the floor to the outside. It had a black glass oven door. That's why the second JennAir in the Concord house. We changed out all the cabinets to a hickory wood and when we moved the range for that, we broke the glass oven door. Poof! New range appeared. I'm on the third JennAir here now. Of course I put one in here when we put in my huge kitchen. I wanted to upgrade to the stove version of a large oven and a half size one too. It would have been a 48 inch wide range, with 6 burners, but the cost of adding that extra oven was ginormous! I couldn't justify myself to pay that much. So I have just the 30 inch slide in, dual fuel model. That means I have a gas cooktop and a electric oven. The best of both worlds! Electric is great for baking and I have a small simmer burner that cooks quite well. Gas for candy making. My current range doesn't have the interchangeable burner units, so I don't have the indoor grill. Do miss that. JennAir is very similar to the Wolf Professional brand, just a bit less expensive. Oh, very well insulated, so doesn't heat up the house with the oven on.

Today, Sarah's cousin in law is coming over. Her embroidery machine went on the fritz and she needs to do a couple of names. I can help with that. This week will get busy too. Kari's parents are coming and bringing Karlie home. Karlie stayed this last trip. Wednesday is the big day for Andrew. Officially gone for the two years. He'll be 8n Provo for a week or so, then finally fly to Dallas. The church is wonderful in teaching and preparing the missionaries for their time out in the field. The field is the mission area. The missionaries are taught how to share the gospel, the good message, giving all who want to hear and learn. Sometimes we forget that learning, is like trying to drink from a firehouse.

Lila is just being Lila. No new stories, but summer is just beginning. Gracie is 10 now. Tall and skinny! Fast pitch softball is still a under hand pitch, but quite fast. It still uses a softball. This was Gracie's first year playing. As my brother would say, she's a rabbit, a very fast runner! She steals bases all the time! She plays in the outfield and can catch flyballs too. Currently the glove goes with her at all times, everywhere! LOL!

A bit of laundry and breakfast are needed.

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

Happy Monday!! Doesn't look like it's going to be very warm today, so I am back in long pants and a flannel shirt!! Might even be too chilly to open a window. Alexa says we are even going to get a little rain! We can always use it and since I have no place I need to go---it's all good. Might be another sewing day (most of my days are sewing days!)

Maryz.... Isn't it Murphy's Law that just as you are preparing for a big "baked in the oven" meal the oven dies? One thanksgiving I had Turkey dinner all ready to go and the oven died.. Ran to Sara's folks to borrow their big roaster. Fortunately it was a fixable problem and not a replace issue.... tho the kids have replaced it now. At the old house, I got an estimate to redo my cabinet doors---$5000. but only because other cabinet doors in the hallway & bathroom would have to be done to match too! This was when I was selling the house back in 2017. Oh how I would love to do this kitchen here!! I'm waiting for David & Jen to get home--as David is a construction guy--he'll know what to do!

Valerie....How do you like your front load machine? When I bought new ones here, I was tempted but was afraid I wouldn't be able to get a big quilt in it! You are getting ready to plan your route? I'm so happy to know that I am not that only one with several projects going on at the same time.!! Back in about 1999 Jen and I went to San Fran to visit my niece who was in college there at the time. She took us to Haight-Ashbury. A very interesting place! Lots of cute little shops, a lot of sweet smell in the air and a lot of lost souls walking around. SO I don't think much has changed since the 60's! That song is one of my favorites and was just on my Pandora the other day!

Judi.... Do you have a gas stove? Our first little house back in 1974 had a gas stove, which I had NEVER even seen before! I had no idea the broiler was on the floor.... sure didn't make sense to me so I don't think I ever used it!!! I too am kind of surprised they don't require at least a CNA to pass meds. Every med pass is done from electronic MARS now -- a whole different world than LTC that I knew! I can imagine Nolan is just the kind of kid that likes to stop and visit! A big hearted kid for sure!

Flo.... I've seen houses with metal roofs and I could think of was how noisy they would be in a heavy rain or hail storm!

Jana.... I've heard that folks that have a JennAir love them!! When we lived in Northern Minnesota in 1982--I had just a stove top and 2 built in ovens! I LOVED that and wanted to duplicate in the house we built in 1986, but there was no way it would have fit in that kitchen. Not that I was/am a big baker, but an "eye level" was a godsend and with two I could get 4 sheets of cookies baking at the same time.

Chriss... Every once in a while I see a couple on Facebook that are Hasidic Orthodox Jews and they explain a lot about their traditions and rules etc--especially about Sabbath. It is very interesting. They do not touch anything that involves electricity after sun set on Friday until Saturday night. No phone, no car, no stove, no shower. In one video, they explained that they even prepare pieces of TP ahead of time so they don't have to tear TP to use the restroom! I checked out your stove!! It's gorgeous!!! How fun with that be to get your kitchen remodeled!!! I'm green like Kermit!!

Lyn... Hope you are heading north. Every day stuck down here is one less fishing day!!

Not much in the way of sunshine this morning, so I need to go flip some lights on and get busy. My Janome is making some weird squeaky noises, so I'm thinking I might have to take it in. But just now as I'm checking to find phone number to call --always have to call first as his hours change---he's moved and now works out of a church! Farther away! Dang!!! Not too many options for sewing machine repair any more. Good thing I have a couple extra machines in the house!! There is a repair shop in St. Cloud I could take it too and it just so happens there is the Minnesota Quilt show there Next week!!

Wishing you all the very best!

Good morning. My goodness it's turning out to be a great day.

Today is cabinet shops with the parents. I only have a few doors needing to be replaced and will take pictures of my cabinets so they can be matched. I will also order my stove but first will go into both Lowes and HD to be extra sure. We don't have any other appliance stores around here anymore.

Maryz, I also love line drying my laundry, except for undies and socks, those go in the dryer. I don't want the rumor around town about my granny panties. I'm so glad you got to see your kids. I bet they are excited to start their travels. The stove I am getting is a gas and a slide in. It looks much sturdier than my current stove which was bought for the same reason you bought yours. The microwave I bought seems big to me but I'm hoping that putting a slide in stove under it will work well. I probably could have gotten a smaller microwave.

Valerie, I've not heard good things about Samsung appliances. I'm pretty set on this stove but will go into the store to make sure. I do love cooking with propane, and like you, I don't think a convection oven is right for me. So, how's the CPAP and how's retirement. Hope you love both. When Marilyn was maybe 10 years old we went to SF because there was a friends of the library sale at the Presido. When we took the off ramp we were smack in front of a gay pride parade and some people don't wear clothes while walking in the parade. Thankfully Marilyn wasn't paying attention.

Judi, enjoy Sarah's birthday dinner. Thanks for the cleaning and broiler info. I always thought a broiler was at the top of the oven. I certainly will check.

Flo, my roof is comp. It's a 30 year roof and will outlast me. My grandparents had a metal roof and when it rained it was the noisiest thing ever.

Jana, you do so much more cooking than I do. After I check out the cleaning and broiling of the stove at Lowes I will either purchase it or keep looking. Myt dad has dule fuel. If I cooked more I would get something bigger. Just can't believe that Gracie is that old, hope she keeps loving sports.

Maryq, I would love to see a little rain. Probably not until September. I had the house open for almost two hours this morning before tuening on the a/c. My grandma had a front load w/d and didn't like them, but she was pretty set in her ways. I thought it was interesting that there was a sabbath setting on the oven, thanks for telling me why.

I need to do a little grocery shopping after I go to dad's. No clue what dinner will be but unless I get some groceries it will probably be oatmeal.

You all have a fun day
Chriss.

Got caught up with my self and thought I'd share my scratch buttermilk pancake recipe for one. Mr G doesn't eat pancakes and I love them. So I've fussed my mom's recipe to make about 7 - 4 inch or so pancakes. I have a square flat griddle and can fit 4 on at a time, just barely not touching. The recipe goes quick in a 4 cup measuring cup, room to stir. - 1 cup buttermilk, 1/2 to a scant 2/3 cup of flour.and one egg. The flour can change according to how thick you like your pancakes. I like mine thinner. A fat 1/4 tsp of baking soda, about the same of salt. A dash of sugar. Stir all together. Spoon onto a griddle sprayed well with Pam non stick spray. Medium heat, watch to how brown you like your pancakes. Me, I'm light colored. Flip and cook through. Now my Aunt taught me to count 16 bubbles, then flip. She worked in a restaurant at one time and that was their method. A bit darker than I like. You'll notice no oil or butter in the batter, so I respray my griddle between sets of pancakes. I get between 6 and 7 pancakes out of this recipe.

Now to get fancy and impress your grands, make a large round pancake to which you add while it barely on the griddle, two smaller round dollops of batter as ears, voile, a Mickey Mouse pancake! Just be careful as you flip to the other side. I loosen the whole thing before flipping..

We serve with butter on each hotcake, what my mom called them,, and syrup. Some like peanut butter, or strawberry jam. My favorite is very odd, I love light Karo syrup on mine. I do not like maple anything!

So scratch is really quick and easy. No Bisquick here.
