Good morning,

It's warm enough to be out on the deck this morning. And I am being serenaded by a concert of roosters, owls, and little birds of all kinds, not to mention the tinkling fountain. I love early mornings in summer weather!

LORI - you have just the right amount of wool. If/when I need more, I know where to look. Tell me again - what's your address ?..... You will have fun with your friend. I don't get to see my BFF very often anymore, but when we are together it's like no time has passed.

LYN - thanks for the article. I do very little garment sewing anymore, but sad to know patterns won't be there if/when I need one. The last time I went looking for patterns - 3 yrs ago - pickings were slim already. I couldn't even find a simple man's shirt pattern. Jana gave me one of hers to use. I had a friend (she passed away last Thanksgiving  ) that had a high end condo but her countertops were also tile and grout and she also hated it, But back in The Day, it was The Thing. And I'm sure I saved that topper pattern somewhere but there's been a lot going on with where and how I store things in my sewing room. If it's not too much trouble, perhaps you could send it to me again, I'll be more careful of it this time.

JANA - with new pattern shortages in the offing, would you like your pattern back? My machine will make good buttonholes, too, though I've rarely used it. I generally use snaps, but they are getting harder to find, too! Especially the heavy duty ones.

CHRISS - My friend has white Corian in her house. Every single little crumb or bit of pepper shows. We got our countertops through Costco and saved quite a bit of $$. I'm not sure what all kinds of countertops they offer but it's worth picking up a brochure and asking.

LOIS - I see patterns in thrift shops all the time. Maybe I'll pay more attention to them now, But you never know if all the pieces are there. I'm excited you are starting your snowman quilt! Your background will be purrfect! I used pale blue snowflake for mine. A batik I bought in AK. Is Sandy starting hers, too? Does she live close to you? And by the way, how close are you to NYC?

JUDI - if you make a stitch book, do you make a note on each stitch sample what foot, throat plate, etc you need for it?

VAL - we started planning our trip and looks like we'll be leaving home about the same time you do. We've both made lists of all the people and places we want to see, made a very rough itinerary, and will work on that more as time goes by. Do you realize we'll be leaving in about 12-1/2 weeks?? We will only be averaging about 200 - 250 miles per day though. We'll never keep up with you!

Yesterday I washed my red/white stripe backing for my red/white Ohio Star and dried it on the line. It dried nearly wrinkle free. So I got that project all ready for quilting. And I decided that I'm going to quilt mr. and mrs Clause wall hangings (~30x40" each) as if they are one project and do them with one backing and one batting on the long arm. So much easier than using Chip, the Bernie. I can cut them apart after they are done. So, right now, I have no project happening in my sewing room. But I'm starting to think of winter projects for Texas and kitting them up. Maybe I'll decide on wedding quilts for my 3 grands and start on those. And then just set the tops aside when they are done to finish up later if/when weddings happen. Tops are so much easier to store than finished quilts. Also on my Maybe Some Day List are 'sweater weather' quilts for my kids. They are Norwegian on their dad's side. I've seen some pretty cool quilt patterns that look like Norwegian sweaters. Maybe I will finally make those, but in their favorite colors.

No further word from the development company on our house. Which is fine. They are far more motivated to buy than we are to sell. So if they want it badly enough, they will have to come to us with a very good offer. If they do, we'll take it. And if they don't, that's fine, too. We like it here.

Today it's to be 86* so I'm going to wash sheets and towels and dry them on the line. Don't know if Lee & Lara will be here today or not. They did get their new truck yesterday in Vancouver which is 2 hours south of us. They may be hanging around there and extra day or they might just go on to their son's house which is 30 miles north of us.

Happy Sunday!

Good Morning Girls

Missed y'all yesterday, but Friday night was a late night after graduation and I slept well past 9:30 yesterday morning.. man that messes up the day! Even last night after having supper with the kids and chatting with Tom and Viv I didn't get home until late!

Maryz...On the back end of my house I have another little patio, with a nice big glass top table but it lacks chairs! But they are on the next HD shopping list so that I can take my computer out on the table on these beautiful mornings and enjoy my coffee "on the deck". You are in a great position... the developer needs you more than you need them and you are in to big rush to moved. With luck, and they pay you enough you won't have to worry about interest rates on a new mortgage.

Lois.... Another thought I had with my nice patio table on nice days... May to take my sewing machine out there! When it's so nice outside I hate to spend the day INSIDE! And I feel like I need to be productive, so just sitting and reading a book feels lazy! Enjoy your sunshine!

Chriss.... Here's my 2c on countertops. I replaced mine at the house in 2020 and LOVED them!!! I looked at granite and quartz. Granite, I was told, come right from the ground so I couldn't find a color I like at all because it was all dark browns, beiges, and even blacks. I'm not a beige person in any way, shape or form. SO I went to Quartz which is manufactured from granite (I think) but available in many more colors--so I found white with grey swirls! Quartz does not have to be treated like granite and does not stain--even mustard didn't stain mine. If I could do them here at my new place I would in a heart beat, but not sure the cost is an option and I might just have to replace with formica. Yup, ovens are way more complicated these days--they combine regular, with convection with air fryer in them now. Even mine has an app for it-so theoretically I can turn it on from across the world! Seeing as I use my oven so little--I don't even know what the app really does! I just want it to bake pizza!

Judy... Good news that your bread turned out just fine! Do you think the corn starch made it a little less heavy? I just might have to try that "mistake" and see what happens. I do love that bread, but think a little lighter would be nice. I did by some bread flour last time I got groceries so that I could try bread from scratch again. Right now my kitchen has fabric all over it--so I'll have to wait until I clear that mess out   Is your Pharmacy student home for the summer?

Lori... Buttermilk pancakes? From scratch!? Years ago, Dh was at a neighbors while she was fixing pancakes and LOVED hers so he asked for her recipe---she showed him the box of Aunt Jemima mix--all you had to do was add water!! My kind of pancakes!

Lyn... Are you headed north or did I see that you are stuck in Missouri? Wishing you safe travels!

Jana... I like your theory, that if planning for so many months worth of food, it seems reasonable that one should plan for so many years worth of fabric. A lot of the fabric I have in my garage I bought when I was working---see I was even thinking ahead then--as I knew someday I would be retired and not able to buy much. My forethought has worked out well.

time to go jump in the shower and get on with my day. When I was in Wisconsin I borrowed a pattern book from Viv and found a pattern for a quilt that uses fabric that I actually have a tote box full of in my garage, so I spent yesterday afternoon cutting it and "kitting it" so it would be ready when I finish three other things I'm in the middle of. I have to say that cutting is one of my favorite parts of quilting! So if you need me, I'll be at the cutting table!

Wishing you all the best!

Good morning I was up and made blueberry pancakes for Ken and we cleaned up I stripped the bed and will remake it when Ken gets back from Homedepot...He went to get Liam to help him with a 4x8 sheet of something,,,he needed Im not sure what, I fed the birds and filled the bird bath with clean water they are very messy critters,,,I also watered the porch plants and I will sweep the porch when I get done here...Im not sure what to make for supper but pizza or caesar salad are possible. I am leaning toward salad and maybe some of the left over chicken from yesterday...or we might be in for tuna salad and soup...Ken will pick when he gets home...
When I get all that done I will contnue the stitch book prep getting the pages cut and backed with stabelizer. and after I sew each stitch I will label them with the number of the stitch...I do not need to mark the foot or sttch plate since when you press the stitch it tells you on the screen everything you need to do this stitch...foot and settings and the machine only came with one throat plate so i dont think that is an issue. I will use up some old thread I have to stitch them out...I actually have some antique thread on old wooden spools but I going to pass on using any of that. I will experiment with rayon, poly, and cotton thread...I still have hand stitching to do on the binding and will work on that
Maryq yes my pharmacy student Nolan is home for the summer...He got a job in a skilled nursing center,,passing meds to the old folks...He is leaning a lot...and he enjoys their company,,but he got told by the supervising nurse that he is too slow..(He calls it careful) but he is so personable that he has to stop and chat with all the residents and they love him.
Hope you all have a great day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning!

A busy Sunday for me today. First, we have Andrew's farewell in Sacrament Meeting in his Ward and it starts at 9 am. Too early for me, but we're here, on time. Then home and feed Mr G, then off to our Ward. The music person neglected to tell me the music for today, so I'm walking in b,ind! Couldn't ask a substitute and not tell them what we're singing. That wouldn't be nice. Then back to Matt's for more food. Busy! Oh I will miss Sarah singing a solo in her Ward this morning. She's singing, It is Well with my Soul. It's a favorite and beautiful! The backstory on the song, was a grieving father at the loss of his family in the Titanic sinking, who wrote the words.

Gracie's fast pitch softball team won the championship yesterday! Quite a feat! Gracie is a fast runner, and when she gets on base, she steals 2nd and 3rd. Occasionally home too. The team was given a huge ring, like the size of a superbowl ring!

Well, better behave,

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning

Chriss I have granite, we paid around $400 per slab. It is called African Canyon. I really like it except, it is difficult to see crumbs etc on it so therefore, DH doesn't notice it needs to be cleaned. I do check it every morning. I also do use Granite cleaner/polisher. Our cupboards are custum designed except for the doors. They were purchased. They are all oak. Yes pricy, but can't managage that other stuff. Maybe people would give you a sample to take home and place in your kitchen and see what you like. Our supplier did. Glad you had a good time with Elliott.

Maryz my fridge is going on 23 years old, it is woring fine. It is small though but bigger won't fit. I have a small house so ..... My stove is new in 2017 and I hate it. It wish it would die so I could get a new one. It wasn't the one we originally picked out but the one we wanted had to come from Korea and good luck with that. After a few months waiting, we cancelled that order and bought this one. I kinda vote for don't sell the house. My gut feeling says you may regret it. Where else will you find concert of roosters, owls, and little birds of all kinds, not to mention the tinkling fountain. We will have to travel a bit farther each day to get to everyone.

Jana I use the reason, I want more fabric because I don't have what I need. So far it has worked. Sometimes more than I want it too. I have thoughs stayed away from the what they are now calling a clearance sale. I know I would overspend and with trip planning coming up, I need to be good. Will think of Andrew today as he heads off. I am sure he will do well.

Lois I think their pricing might have something to do with liquidating. I went to Joann's just a few months ago, over $20 for a pattern to make Lena a summer outfit. That's more than I paid for the fabric! I love snowmen by the way. Some where out in the shed I have snowman/winter fabric for 2 quilts.

Lyn I am having 2 days in a row not going anywhere. I need a few groceries but not so bad that I need to go today. Tuesday will be fine. Have never thought of a stitch book, what a good idea.

Lori still cloudy here this AM. Has been a decent week for weather. Probably 71 or so today, winds starting again at 3. Not sure why we are having so many windy days.

Judi I hsve not had blueberry pancakes is a long time. Well haven't had any pancakes for a long time! So glad to hear Nolan is doing well. The supervisor modt likely said that because federal law says meds but be delivered within one hour before and one hour after the due time. Depending on the number of patients (usually its too many) staff do nont have time to be personal. That is one thing I really didn't like about working in the SNF. The SNF can be fined for late meds.

Maryq you will be pleased to hear that the other day I actually brought in a box from the shed and unpacked it. Most of it went in the doate box but did find a bag of fabric that had two blocks also. Uhm, didn't even remember the fabric let alone what I was making. Thank God I found a small note that said, Nancy Zeiman 2017 Block of the Month. Yea, the patterns are still online so I downloaded them and also transfered them to a flash drive just in case. It is browns, blues and creams in 1800. I will have to start making a block here and there.

Worked some yesterday on my Ryan's Sampler. Will work on some more of that today.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone

Good morning beautiful ladies. It's going to be a productive day today. Hot but productive.

The plan is to start outside, I want to sweep, fill a few squirrel holes, and clean the garage. Dad is a mess maker which means I am a mess cleaner upper. It's just how we roll. Kind of like chasing my tail but I am overjoyed to do it.

Moose still isn't completely thrilled with his new feeder. He will take a few bites of food but hasn't drank from the water bowl yet. He has been going outside and eating and drinking from those bowls. He'll get used to it, just not right away. I put food and water for him outside when I am going to be away from home for the day. Once he empties the outside bowls I won't refill them right away, he will have to get used to the inside feeder.

I've been looking at stoves. I have narrowed it down to three choices GE, Frigadaire and Samsung. I will, before I decide, give each oven another look. Did you know some of these come with a Sabbath Mode? Interesting.

Lori, I also buy stuff when I get stressed. Amazon can be both my enemy and my friend. I've tried to stick with yard sales so that I don't spend too much. Enjoy your trip, hope you have lots of relaxing fun. I found some junk at the rummage sale, it was for the SPCA so I just gave them $20. So far two of the items I bought will be re-donated to the local thrift store. It's just what I do.

Maryz, white or black have never been my first choice for anything in my house. I will look at Costco, never thought of them. Hope you get to see the kids today, but I get that they are anxious to see their kids. Depending on traffic two hours can be a long travel time especially when it's also two hours home. Each time you mention about perhaps letting the developer buy your home I think of all of the items stuffed in a house and yard. The packing alone would be too overwhelming for me. I've already purged this house once and I sure could do it a second time.

Lois, think of yourself as the pattern tester outer for Sandi, you will have the kinks worked out of the snowman pattern and can make her path run smoother. Enjoy your beautiful weather, I love the 70's

Maryq, I also am looking for low maintenance counter tops. I like the wipe down and let it dry method. I checked with AI to see suggestions and it came up with Quartz as the best option. I pretty much just want to bake or heat up in the oven too. And now all stove tops have at least a 5th burner. Cool that you found fabric in your garage to match the pattern you found, yay for you.

Judi, Between you and Lori you almost have me convinced to make pancakes. I don't have any fruit for mine but I do have syrup and butter. I'm glad Nolan is not racing thorough his job. Imagine making a mistake because he was hurrying. Do you use your outdoor pizza oven often?

Jana, Gracie is doing fast pitch? what happened to Tball? Our little league teams here do a ring for winning the championship too. The kids love it. I like the song Sarah is singing.

Valerie, what do you hate about your stove? My current stove was a cheap, our oven died, get a stove now stove. The new ones are so advanced, I really don't need convection or air fry. I really don't cook much. My debate is, do I buy a basic no frills stove or for not a whole lot more money get the bells and whistles? My fridge is also quite old and small, but it's just me and works well. I sure don't need anything bigger, the one I have isn't even full. I do like granite but don't want a really busy pattern. I guess what I really don't want is a counter top like I have now. Formica that is pieced and glued to wood. My cabinets are fine, they just need to be painted. I will need to add a couple of cabinet doors to cover an opening.

I am going to make pancakes for breakfast and dinner will be a salad with rotisserie chicken. Tomorrow I go shopping with the parents and after that I will do some grocery shopping.

Have a fun day

Chriss Matt has gone through 2 stoves in 10 years. One a GE and the other a Samsung. So his new third one is a cheapest Frigidaire that he found. He understands that new ones are built to last 5 years, then kaput. So he opted for one that cooks and bakes, no bells and whistles.

Jana, unless I find a better deal in the store I am going with a no bell and whistle GE. I don't need convection or air fry. And I don't need to get Alexa involved in my cooking. This model is pretty darn basic. I really don't use an oven too often,

I do really appreciate everyone who has given me their oven and counter top advice, It really is a big decision and I appreciate the input.

Good evening. If you happen to want to look at the stove Chriss is interested in, Lowe's website is having issues. I tried to search something else and got the same error message. Maybe it will work tomorrow.

Chriss, the Texas glass top stove has 5 spots, but the one in the middle back is just a warmer.
