FRIDAY, May 23rd, 2025

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri May 23, 2025 6:40 am

Good morning,

Yesterday was so beautiful here! It was 73*. We went to friends for happy hour and sat outside on the deck next to their koi pond for two quite happy hours. Bliss! This coming week we're to be in 70's with one 83* day. I think we're turning a corner, weatherwise.

FLO - Mary Q yesterday had a good idea - check your roof for hail damage. My sis & dbil got a new roof because of hail damage and ins paid for it.

VAL - a bummer when the stated fabric requirement isn't enough. Have you checked on line to see if a correction is posted? Not that it will help you now, but if you alert the pattern designer it might save other folks. Or is there another way you could cut/piece the fabric to get the backing up to size? A strip of coordinating fabric is a great idea. Sorry some classes aren't working out for you, Do you always take a class for the quilts you make?

LYN - are you having more work done on the MH and I just forgot about it? Hope your Jeep brakes are good now. So we were blood drawing twins yesterday. Fasting is no biggie to me, either. Coffee is, though you can have black coffee. I like mine with Coffeemate in it but in a pinch one cup of black does get me through until after the draw. And yes, we had to both sign for our UPS box and show ID. It's a new P.O. regulation. Not sure yet if we have to do it every year or just once.

JUDI - Did you get your Garden Quilt on the LA? 108" backings are nice. But you are right - a pain to iron. I double mine and iron it folded, turn it over and iron it on that side, too. Then I unfold and iron the center. Makes it a little bit easier to wrangle. Sure hope to hear some good news about your new machine today!

LORI - Mmmmm.... I can smell your jasmine from here. We used to have one in a big pot on our deck and it was glorious to sit outside in the evenings and smell it. But sadly, we had a rough winter one year and the jasmine didn't make it through. I can't imagine keeping up a second house and yard. I haven't been able to get my own under control this year. Kudos to you!

CHRISS - I'm glad you've got a dr appt. My guess would be a combo of dehydration and not enough carbs, but a second opinion will be good. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ™‚ I inherited a big box of unlabeled photos from the 1800's and very early 1900's after my parents died. I did toss all the scenery pix and started sorting out the people. I used my "sharp detective skills" and was finally able to identify four great-grandparents and 1 great great. I was thrilled! I made scrapbooks for my five siblings and three kids though I never got my own scrapbook finished. I also put the pictures on my Ancestry site. Sometimes it was a matter of matching the backgrounds in the photos or brief notes on the back like, "visit to _____". A fun, for me, mystery to solve.

MARY Q - yes, XR's showed the doc - and me - all the arthritis. The worst is L5 amd S1. Hard to sit, especially on hard chairs. And we have to go to 2 dinners this weekend and sit at dining tables. Maybe I should take Bill's pillow along to sit upon. I was doing a pattern once and had the exact same fabric that was used in the pattern photo. What are the odds??

JANA - I'm with you - I don't like late day appointments. I want them as early as possible and then I can get on with my day. Last week I didn't get home until 5pm from one of my appts! Ugh!

Yesterday was a big lab draw - 11 vials of blood! Most results are already posted to My Chart and all are within normal limits so far. In the sewing room, I got my "Over the River" quilt top ready for the LA (stay stitched the edges because of so many seams and added my scrap borders for the clamps to grab), and then I pieced the back. I just happened to have 5 yds (only needed 3) that depicted a very similar scene as in the embroidered panels. Purrfect! Today I want to make a case for a rectangular pillow I have that is purrfect for putting under my knees to relieve pressure on my back. I have a haircut at noon and Bill, Scottie, and I will walk to it on the loop walking trail near our house that runs through the woods and along a small manmade lake. Halfway along the trail is a short staircase into a small business center where my hair salon is. Total walk to/from is scant 2 miles. I'm feeling the need to get out and MOVE. I've not been doing my morning walk for the last 3 weeks.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and don't forget why we have this special day!

Happy Friday to All.

Yesterday as I waited for the Jeep, I called the Bernina store in Longmont and asked lots of questions about the B570QE. Just as I decided that I would buy it, the lady said the one they had in stock was just walking out the door. Then I thought, there's a Bernina store in Hays, so I called there. She was writing up a sale on the one she had as we spoke. So, I thought maybe I'm not suppose to buy one. Then I looked at Bernina's web site for locations and found one in Thornton, which is a north suburb of Denver. I called and they had one. I told the man about my moving from place to place and he included the trolley bag, which I know costs some bucks. I think God sent me to this one knowing I needed a good deal. So, when the Jeep was finished, I drove to Thornton and bought it. JUDI, I'm blaming you for this.  I keep thinking about the embroidery unit, which is also on sale. I told them I might be back and they will give me the tote to carry it in. I don't really need it because my 440QE is still running Ok and I haven't been doing much embroidery, but for the price I'm going back and getting it this morning before I pick up the MH.

Judi, I know you have an embroidery machine, but you might consider getting the attachment while it's at this price. Prices may go up if they fall under tariffs.

Chriss, I hope you get some good info at the Dr office.

MaryZ, I'm sorry you are still hurting. I would take the pillow to the dinners.

So, I will be out of the house soon. I will buy the embroidery unit then pick up the MH and get it back to the RV garage. Then I need to come home, start laundry and play with the new toy. Thank you Judi!!!

I hope y'all have a great day.

Good morning!

A wonderful day here in the mountain west! A beautiful start to the holiday weekend. All my kids are heading out in different directions.

So Mr G asked me. What we're doing today? I quoted a line from a old cartoon, Pinky and the Brain. Pinky asks Brain that same question every day. Brain always answers, "same thing we do every day, Pinky, try and take over the world!" We'll see if we succeed! LOL!

Yesterday my eye went so so. We had a small hiccup and now will go to our 6 week regimen. Then as we drove back across the valley, we had three options of roads. There is a ton of road construction, making the ways difficult. So we picked one, we thought would be the path of least resistance and that was a good thing! Aaron was off duty and got called out for a fatal accident. That accident happened on the other road we considered. He had the road closed for more than 3 hours. What a long wait we would have had! Another instance of a driver running a red light and t-boning another car. Here in Utah, today starts the count of the Most 100 dangerous days - all summer to Labor Day. Be safe out there!

Gracie the other night has a fun experience. The triple A minor league baseball team here, invited Gracie's softball team to join in the pre games activities, standing on the field, in the position she plays, greet the minor league player and have him sign a baseball. Gracie was introduced by name to the crowd. She was so excited! Then there's Lila. The baseball team mascot is a bumble bee, about 6 feet tall, dancing and doing antics for the crowd. So he grabbed Lila's hand and had her dancing all over the field. Lila is a huge ham and it showed! Lila also ran up and high fived several players, to which, the rest of the team ran over to her to get a high five! She's 7! Later in the game, the family was sitting on the grass in right field, when a home run was hit. Lila got the ball, but saw a littler child, right near, and gave him the ball. Makes you happy to see that!

Well, I'm off, look out world!

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning girls!!

As much as I love staying tucked in my nice warm bed in the morning, it sure messes up my day! Here it is 10:am and I just got out of the shower!!! Trying to decide if I want to go get groceries or stay home and sew some more! It's the Friday before a holiday weekend.... how busy will Target be! Do I want to hassle crowds or should I just stay home and order take out for supper!

Maryz ... 11 Vials of blood???!!! Do you have any left? They must have run just about every test they can think of. Good thing they don't charge you for each test! (even tho medicare covers it) . How convenient that you can walk to your beauty shop! I'm trying to remember the area that you speak of, but all I recall is that HUGE tree in the neighbor's yard back where your fire pit is!!!

Lyn.... Sounds like all the stars aligned just right for you to find that sewing machine!! I know right where Thornton is, as I've driven through it a few times! What fun it will be to take that machine back to your sewing cabin!!! GO FOR IT!! Get the embroidery unit!! Now that I have discovered what fun machine embroidery is, I wish I would have gone for a machine with a bigger hoop. I only have 4x4, but when I buy designs, I download all the 5x7's available too--just in case someday I win the lottery and can upgrade my machine. I'd have to get another Brother--as all my files are PES files.

Jana... The best part of your story for today, is Lila sharing her baseball with younger child. That alone gives me hope for society!

Chriss.... You are going to the Dr this morning? Will be thinking of you all day and hoping that all goes well!

For now I better get going... Need to put a curl in my hair and put on a face and go get groceries, bet to get it done and over with! When I get back I'll need to start some laundry and let Mr. & Mrs Maytag do their thing whilst I sew!

Hope you all have a happy and safe holiday weekend.

I am back!

LYN - I'm excited for you! I'm sure Judi will be happy to accept the blame?, credit? for your lapse in will power! I've been so tempted, too. But so far I'm resisting. My B480 is only 7 years old and running beautifully,

LOIS - I sense a great weekend dinner at your house! Have fun with Posh Sunflower!

JANA - Your generous girls certainly deserved the fun they got yesterday!

MARY Q - best to get that shopping done now. There will be crowds but it's just people. I was thinking you could just buy a larger hoop. Not so? Maybe you should invest in a new Bernina B570QE. Everyone's doing it, you know. :D

My sciatica is is doing so much better. But the arthritis in my tailbone is a bit of a pain. Get it? A little play on words there. pain. But I'm so lucky it's not worse! Because it sure could be! I've got my little pillowcase finished and then I sorted out the bins of wools, backings, batting scraps that I store under the LA. I measured, labeled each piece and each bin. I have too much!! Anyone need wool?

Good morning. It's going to be an action packed day today.

I will go clean my parents house this morning. Meet with a cousin to give a framed picture of his grandparents, my gr grandparents. It's been up in my closet for years and I am glad to see it go. And then a doctor appointment. A quick trip to the grocery store will end my adventure.

This morning I called to make my neurosurgeon appointment and they didn't receive the entire faxed referral from my doctor. So I called my doctor and they had assumed all was faxed completely and put my orders in the completed pile. Thankfully I called and the paperwork will be re-faxed. If I don't get calls I will recall on Monday. We are in charge of our own healthcare, so glad I called.

Lori, I do like the smell of Jasmine but my allergies just don't. Same goes with my orange tree. I love the way it smells but my allergies aren't happy. I have a tote full of old pictures. a lot of duplicates. My goal is to pare them down to one or two and get rid of the rest. The museum / history center here might like some that are of past residents but no one else would care. I found one picture that says General Lee on the back but haven't googled him to see if it's really him.

Maryz, dang, 11 viles? I bet that was draining, get it? draining. I'm here all week. I am starting to slowly walk again too. I finally finished my antibiotics, they really kicked my butt. My pictures are kind of sorted, but I don't need a bunch of the same picture. I hope to sort them for cousins who might be interested, the history center, or as a last resort, the dump.

Lyn, wow, what fun, a new toy for you too. Glad you were able to track it down and take it home. Hope it's a lot of fun.

Jana, with the kids out and about sounds like a perfect day to take over the world. How many times did I watch that show when the kids were growing up.

Maryq, my messes will need to wait till I get home. Not sure how busy the grocery store will be, it's a holiday weekend. We don't have takeout here, or that would be my plan. hope you get everything you need at the store.

Maryz, again. Would a donut work for you to sit on? Lori uses wool.

Time for breakfast and to load my car. I am so in demand today.

Dinner will likely be something I find at the grocery store, just not sure what.

Good afternoon.. I got busy this morning and never made it here, I got the laundry room windows done and a lot of junk from the laundry room cleared out. Ken came home and i handed him abag of stuff he has to deal with, He has 2 offices one in the basement and one up stairs,,,I made a rule that his "cr##" had to be in one of those offices..or in the trash, He agrees but does not comply.. So today his is dealing with a bag of stuff and he finds a $25 gift card one of the kids gave him for his birthday in December,,,lol i know he wont learn but a wake up call.
I got the top and backing loaded on the LA,,but I do need to make the QOV labels..so I will set up my embroidery machine, It is an older (10yrs old) model and some of the files are outdated but it still makes great labels and that is pretty much all I do these days,,,
Chris hope your appt goes well but follow up is important,,,prayers for good outcomes always....
Maryz, No wool for me I have a wool table runner that needs to be finished after sitting for 6 yrs, I am glad your sciatica is better but arthritis is an on going problem arounf here,,,KEn in his hands and frmerly his knees.
And me in my remaining knee and hips...I refuse to let it slow me down...
Lyn Horray fr you,,My Dealer had to order my machine and it hasnt arrived yet ,,,,Being on sale she said the last one walked out the door as she was ordering mine. Being $1500 off retail is a good deal...and the embroidery module is a good buy too...but I will pass o it ...mine will do me...yours will look really good set up in your quilt shed,,,I take full responsibility for your purchase new toys are for everyone who wants,,I am thrilled for you. I watched a ton of utube videos on the machine and I was impressed with it,,,and I learned a whole lot about the machine when it gets here I will be ready to put the pedal to the floor...
Lois enjoy your steaks on the grill, we are having my grandmother hungarian goulash today,,,made in the insta pot. take about 45 minutes start to finsh with buttered noodles...Ken decined a salad but I might make a dinner salad for me.
that is all for me...Every one have a great emeorial weekend,,,God Bless those who gave it all XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I watch a show here, usually in the background of when I'm sewing. I like noise. Well, today, the show did a segment on Quilting! All week long, the show has highlighted what they called Grandma Crafts. Things our Grandma's did. Embroidery, tole painting, and today, Quilting. Oh, I'm terrible! I was yelling at the TV, telling them they were doing it wrong! I know there are many ways to do things, but the worst advice they told the public, was it wasn't necessary to try to match seams up, just sew it together, how ever. ! Yes, seams miss at times, but you always try your best! And when you finish a quilt, it's like you have just finished running a marathon. I can agree with that! So we are all great marathon runners, the best at what we do! So we are very healthy, running a marathon is hard work! ๐Ÿ˜€

What fun for all y'all to get new machines! I love having the embroidery too! Watch out, Kimberbell is addictive! All the things you can make and quilt, in the hoop. It's amazing!

Maryz, sounds like you are mending a bit. Yes, two houses and yards is a lot. I'll make a decision on the house when Jonathan comes home this summer. It's directed in the trust that things go to me, them him only. So we'll figure it out.

Lyn, oh happy day and new machine is on the way. I didn't get the embroidery because I would never use it.
It like hand embroidering. It's very relaxing for me.

Lois, the Posh Sunflower has a lot of pieces. I really like the look of it.

Jana, sounds like Gracie will be a perfect fit on the team. Glad you chose the right route yesterday.

Maryq, I got all my shopping done yesterday. I didn't want to contend with the masses.

Chriss, hope you doctor appointment is helpful in understanding what's going on with you. I bet the library would love to have your pictures.

Judi, Bill has so much stuff on his work bench in the garage that just collects dirt. It's outside so I just try to ignore it. I'm bad about making clutter messes, but I clean mine up weekly.

Last night I watched a cute movie called "Nonnas" on Nexflix. I'm going up to the parents house today to do some more purging. Other than that I have no plans. Dinner will be chicken on the grill with some yummy veggies at got at the farmers market yesterday.

Have a lovely day.
