Friday May 16th

Post by grammiequilts » Fri May 16, 2025 4:46 am

Good morning it is sunny and warm going to 81 today, I have windows opened and fans going...Not ready for the AC yet,
It was a rock and roll night here about 1 am severe thunderstorms rolled in I dont rememeber that much lightening and thunder for at least a half hour straight. Ken slept through it and he usually wakes up. I laid there waiting for the tornado syrens to go off ( they didnt) Well i was wide awake till they died down close to 230am. I finally fell asleep// Its been years since we had a storm like that,,,I expected a war zone in my yard but only a few branches down, My porch plants did ok since I put them all down behind the porch wall for protection...welcome to spring,
I made cookie dough yesterday and will bake them up this morning Guys at the rink are having withdrawel.
After i get the cookies baked,,,I will head to the LQS to look at a new sewing machine. I am surpised at how expensive they are,,,My newest machine is about 20 yrs old.and it is my embroidery machine and even it is out of date, and my deisgner II is losing its screen, with out the screen you cannot change stitches. It also has been making a knocking sound when I sew...so Ken ( He is amazing about my hobby) said to get a new one,,,as a matter of fact he is insisting,,,,I always encourage him to buy new tools for his projects and he wants to return the favor.. I am looking at a new bernina,,I have always admired them...research shows they ahve good reviews.
Well I am off to the kitchen Hope there is some adventure in your day too...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ps. My son is doing well a long road of recovery but he will mend...Thank you for the prayers...God is listening,,,

Yesterday I finished the baby wall hanging everything is packaged up and ready to go deliver but I don't know when.
Today I have all the sunflower quilt parts pressed and ready to square up and then it goes on the design wall as soon as I get back from the store.

Judi happy to hear that your son is doing well
I think cookies sound good might make some for here
Mary z I don't do any certain pattern I just do loops or whatever strikes my fancy at the time I'm still learning.

Lori so sorry miss molly crossed over.

Well I'm off to the store have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.

Good morning,

JUDI - That sounds like some storm! I hope your yard isn't too messed up. Glad to hear your son is on the mend.

CHRISS - your step mom sounds thrilled with her haircut. WAs it a drastically new style? I'm reading a book by Claudia Biship, Dread on Arrival, and each chapter is preceeded by a recipe. The last recipe I read was for Brunswick Stew. First ingredient after lard was 3 squirrels. I couldn't help by think of you and your squirrels. Recipe says they can be any color squirrel . . . .

MARY Q - have you heard any update on your sister?

JANA - welcome to the Golden Years! I'm not on BP meds yet - only cholesterol, but after this week I fear the BP meds are in my future.

FLO - busy times at your house!

VAL - how did your updates go?

LOIS - you had a productive day yesterday in your sewing room.

I finished my embroidery and put most of my "over the River" project together. I followed directions for cutting exactly as printed. Triple checked them. Arghhh!! I think the directions might have been wrong. My borders are made of 3x6 FG and the vertical borders are about 1/2 to 1" too long. My guess is that the cutting directions gave finished measurements, not unfinished. Even though it didn't indicate that. So now I'll have to figure out a fix for this.

I had a miserable evening, and night. Don't ever get sciatica! Just don't! No pain pill, muscle relaxer, or sleeper even begins to touch it. I've had only one hour sleep. I hope my chiropractor can help me. I have appt this morning. After that Bill has appt for his thyroid biopsy in Tacoma at the hospital where I used to work. 15 miles. I'm not sure I can drive but I guess I'll have to - at least to bring him home. At the moment, I'm having trouble just sitting or walking. Judi's chicken pot pie sounded so delicious to me yesterday that I made one early in the afternoon. Then come time to bake it, we lost power for 2-1/2 hours. By the time it came back on, it was too late, and I wasn't hungry. So Bill made himself a grilled tuna sandwich. Gaackk! So supper tonite will be that pie. I plan to do nothing today except moan and groan and whine and pace the house. If there's any leftover prayers after Judi's son and Mary Q's sister, could I have them, please, for my hubby and for myself?

All for now.

Good morning Judi, Lois and all who follow. 53* now and probably getting close to 80. I will leave the house opened up a bit and then turn the AC on low.

I was unable to get the sewing machines updated. I am not sure what is wrong. The files seem to be on the flash drive but I get an error message when trying to load them onto the machine. I am not a total novice when it comes to computers but this is beyond me. I will call Janome Monday morning.

Judi the LQS I sew at is just signed a contract with Bernina to start selling. He said you can get a fairly decent one for $1500 - $2000. It all depends on what you want the machine to do. I really miss those lightening and thunder storms you guys have, I hear people here talk about the storms we get. They are nothing capared to back east. Of course i don't want anyone to get injured or property damage but I really do like a good storm.

Lois sounds like you are a busy little bee. Love sunflowers. A girl had a sunflower quilt at the shop the other day. It was really pretty. I should have taken a picture

Chriss glad to hear your stepmom had a good day. Always a blessing with Alzheimer's. NIce that she also sees herself in a good light. DH is in charge of dinner here so I don't have to really think about that much. He doesn't have much variety but at least I don't have to cook.

Maryq I really don't sew 7 days a week. I should. I need to learn better self discipline and quit turning on the TV. I am thinking your are still in Wisconsin?

Jana knowing about our medications is a good thing but some people overdo it. Every side effect that has ever happened has to be listed. Even if only one person had it. I have not heard of any recent BP meds that are causing any difficulties.

Flo you such a brave woman to do all that babysitting. When I had the little ones for 3 days (not totally by myself but a good part of it was) I was so tired the first day after I did nothing. Couldn't have gotten off the couch if my life depended on it.

Maryz funny, since retirement, I have to look at my phone to see what day it is.

Well I am off for more coffee, breakfast and will try one more time to update the M7. Leaving the M17 until I figure out what I am doing. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning!

Oh how I enjoy a good thunderstorm! Here we get some doozies! Now the wind that comes with them, not so much! Today we may get some rain, but this weekend, will get a lot more. Just when Daniel is planning to pour the concrete at the bottom of the steps from the deck. He has it formed and drilled holes, added the rebar to the old, leftover piece, so he may just do it today. He only works a half day, but can sneak out if he wants. He gives the company plenty of extra hours.

Judi - enjoy looking for a new machine! A suggestion , see if all the specialty feet you currently have, will fit the new machine. That saves money and you just finished a quilt that uses them. I love my Pfaffs! There's a fun feature that Pfaff has, a laser guide light to help with sewing straight lines. So tempting.

Not much new around here. Upstairs is under control, so I'll be in the Batt Cave. Sunday will be family dinner. This will be the last one with all the family before Andrew is gone for 2 years. Simple dinner - BBQ hamburgers. I'm in charge of buns. That I can do!

Tanner has some eye testing that needs to be done, with him being on the drug Humira. Routine testing. That drug has done wonders for Tanner. Has all the arthritis pain totally under control. Tanner in fact is trying out for the school basketball team. At 14, he already stands 6'5"! I call him short stuff. Tanner has either a basketball in his hand or food!

Time to scoot, I have some uglies to do before breakfast, then down to the Batt Cave!

Hugs, and definitely prayers!
Jana

Blue sky's and 40° on the Mtn. 56° will be the high and the flat lands 72°.

Judi, Sorry you didn't get much sleep, hope there's little storm damage. Cookies sound So good, but I just can't have them here. A friend gave us some cookies that she buys in Nappanee. Garry found them Tuesday and ate 6, needless to say his glucose was up on Wednesday. I love my Bernina 440QE, it's 20 years old. Garry offered to buy me a new one about 6 yrs ago, but it was really big and would have been hard to travel with.

Lois, You are really busy with that new quilting machine.

MaryZ, I'm sending prayers for you and Bill. That pain is no fun. I hope the Chiropractor can help.

Chriss, It sounds like your step Mom really likes her new hairdo. You are a wonderful daughter!

Valerie, I hope you get the update figured out.

Tina, How are you?

Well yesterday didn't go as planned. Maddox had a melt down and we didn't go to the Zoo. Kaylyn, DGD, came up and we went into town to shop and look at where Kaylyn will be working starting Monday. It's a horse stable at the entrance to Rocky Mtn National Park, she'll be doing trail rides and all things horsey.

Not sure what this morning plan is, but I have to be here from 2 on. The hot water heating system has a zone stuck open and the plumber is coming to fix it. I would have left it to next week but the zone is for the main bath and guest bedroom and Amanda is sleeping with the window open to off set.

I hope you all have a good day. Prayers for your needs.
Lyn

Good morning from Wisconsin

Typing on my phone so
This will be short. Beautiful day

Thanks for prayers for sis. She needs to go have needle biopsy soon, the they will decide course of action after that. Mass is about the size of a peach. Either way they will have to remove.

I’ll catch up with everybody when I get home.

In the meantime have a wonderful weekend

Maryq, hope you are having a good time.

Lyn, sounds like Kaylyn is going to have a wonderful job working with animals. Bummer about Maddox and the melt down. Sometimes these things happen. Hope you are able to get the heating system fixed.

Jana, Tanner is one tall boy. Is he still growing?

Valerie, hope you can get some assistance with the update for the machines. Bill gets confused on what day it is since he retired. I read you were wanting to quilt with your new machine. My friend uses her embroidery machine for quilting. It comes out really nice. You just have to keep moving it over for the stitches.

Maryz, dang that sciatica is just hanging on. Sounds like there might be more to it. Bill used to go to a chiropractor for his back years ago. After awhile it didn't help anymore and seemed to make it worse. Hope you can find some relief. Bummer about your embroidery not fitting correctly. I'm sure you'll figure it out. We have a gas stove and oven, so if the power goes out we can still cook. Just have to light the pilot manually.

Lois, thank you.

Judi, when we had the house in Illinois, we'd get some crazy storms when we were there. I wondered if people just get used to it and sleep though or does it keep them up. I guess at your house it's both. The loud thunder would always wake me up. Hope you get some rest tonight.

Chriss, glad you mom like her haircut. Getting a new hairdo is always fun.

It's been very melancholy at our house. Jack has been very pouty as well. He would hang out with Molly quiet a lot. She liked to share her food with him. So many routines have been changed over the last few months it's difficult to adjust to another one. As I sit her typing I miss my little sidekick. She would always come and sit with me when I was on the computer. I had to pull out a chair for her.

The boys are off getting groomed and Bill went to have breakfast with his daughter. I guess I'll get busy and vacuum. I still have a few things of Molly's to put away.

Jana

Yes, Tanner is still growing - Crenda's side of the family are very tall, Tanner has a uncle who's 7'0"! Tanner and Ethan will be my very tallest. The other boys are in the range of 6'3".

Good evening. It's been a very long day.

I took a friend to the doctor. She's getting trail injections to stop the progression of Alzheimer's. The drug is called Kisunla and she gets an injection each month. It would be wonderful if it worked.

Judi, I hope you found that machine and it's sitting in your sewing room. Prayers said for your son

Lois, your quilts popped up in my FB feed, they will be loved.

Maryz, prayers said for you and Bill. Hope the tests went well and nothing is found. Also hope you get tugged back into shape. My stepmom had the same style haircut. I now have a family of squirrels if you'd like me to ship them to you for the stew? Can't buy squirrel bait in Cali, sure with I could, they are so destructive.

Valerie, hope you got the flash drives all figured out. We were also warm here, it's almost 6pm and it's 80 outside. But the sun isn't completly down so there is time for cool off.

Jana, enjoy your family dinner, burgers are one of my most favorite meals. Good to know you are normal.

Lyn, sorry about the zoo trip, can it be rescheduled? Love that you got to see where Kaylyn will be working. what a fun job.

Maryq, hope you made it to your destination safely and have a fun time.

Lori, Molly is just beautiful. I bet she felt your love and appreciated that chair each time you pulled it out for her.

After taking my friend for her infusion we stopped at a place in Fresno called Pismos. I had fish and chips. And now that I have eaten way too much carbs I have to get back on track. Those jeans won't stretch any further.

Hope you all have a great night,
Chriss
