Friday April 4th

Post by grammiequilts » Fri Apr 04, 2025 5:54 am

Good morning,,,up have laundry going it is a bright sunny day here, Today I have lunch with a friend and then when Ken gets home from the rink we will go down to the Erie Fish Market,,,and get some sea food...they have about everything from lobster to tuna. they have already made crab cakes (my favorite). so that will be supper today,,,what ever we find there,
I will work on the friendship blocks today and get them done for guild lady and work on my embroidery blocks...that is pretty much it,
Lori I have bought sunrise flour before...I like it,,,might order some today, I did find another mill that grind their own home grown wheat in north carolina,,it was run entirely by women,,,from the farming to the shipping of flour,,,I found that interesting too,,,and the flour was very tasty. I try to order a small amount to see if it is worth the price,,,(some is pricey) Eating clean food has become a thing around here,,
Well I hope you all have a great day,,filled with adventure XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Morning Judi and all to follow,
Stormy here...again. the worst of it will miss us. But my achy deformed knees are not happy.
Today I will clean refrigerator out...the chickens and dog may get some treats out if it...primarily the chickens.

Good morning,

I have been missing on action I have been really busy I finished my flower garland for my sewing room and it's already hung up above the window and the design wall.

No painting around here we are going to wait a bit because we want to be able to open windows while it's not hot yet but that's ok it will get done.

We went out yesterday and bought a couch and a loveseat I don't have room to put a coffee table but I'm getting small side tables we ordered a ottoman off Amazon because they only had huge ones so it will be here next Wednesday no recliner sofas for us .

So today I have to clean the living room I already got rid of the abundance of magazines that someone was hording and the recycle got that yesterday I have sheets going and the blanket is next.
I think we are having stir fry for dinner it's quick and 1 pan.

Well there is nothing new to report everyone have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.

Good morning,

It was another one of those sleepless nights - toss/turn, get up at midnight for sleepytime tea, wander the sewing room, sit up in bed and read until 2am, awake at 4:30. Yawwwnnnn.... Hope to be making up for it tonite.

VAL - I also have packing lists on my counter. I did my inventory a few days ago of what's in the RV, made another list of more to pack, fridge stuff to pack (we turned on the fridge yesterday!), and a food shopping list. My clothes, books, and travel machine are in. Just need to figure out sewing because I I will go into withdrawals take something. How is your sister? Any answers or dx yet?

JANA - I guess the good thing about having no kids visit us is no one ever messes up my cupboards! Wishing your kids a good time with good weather this weekend. My A-Team are off camping, too, in Louisiana. Aut says they are going on to New Orleans, too.

LYN - How much did you get unloaded into the cabin yesterday? How fun to be arranging a brand new sewing space from scratch. Is there room - and would you want to - put in a lounge chair and maybe a small TV for your DH to sit and hang out with you? Sorry about the Honeywell stuff. It seems troubles like this follow you around, yet you always seem to be able to solve the issues. I think I have you on a pedestal!

FLO - Good to hear the worst of the big storm is missing you. Also good to hear the chickens and the dog will be eating well today!

MARY Q - another baby girl?? You are hogging the new babies! We want one!!. You know I think a SBS would be cute for a quilt. I made one for a baby girl 8 or 10 yrs ago. The blocks were 8" and every Sue was done in different pink fabrics. It turned out so cute! Any more progress on forming your sewing group? Do you talk to the library about a room first or do you put out feelers for members first?

CHRISS - How is the chair coming along? Did heat, plastic wrap, help? Don't forget to wear GOOD gloves while using any stripper! Roy wore simple latex gloves like in the hospital and that stripper ate through the gloves instantly and seriously burned his hands. Maybe that's why it's not available any longer . . . . . G & T's things are being shipped by sea to Anchorage, trucked 400 miles to Fairbanks, loaded onto a smaller truck, and driven the last 20 miles to Gene's house in North Pole. Everything being shipped is in boxes or totes (mostly fabric, patterns, clothes, & thread). Plus Terry's Koala sewing furniture, long arm, and sewing machine. All her household stuff stayed in her house here in G.H. Now who is going to carry ALL of that up the long steep stairway in Gene's house is another matter. I'm glad it won't be me!!

LORI - I have a little tape measure that was my dad's. Once, when I was taking him to the hospital, he pulled it out of his pocket, and asked me to take care of it for him. Daddy died in 1994, but I am still very carefully taking care of that tape measure. It lives in my kitchen junk drawer and Bill KNOWS if he uses it, and doesn't put it back, there will be trouble. But all the other tools - come and gone over the years. You have such good boys, watching out for your heath, walking you every day. Scottie has slowed down a lot and now doesn't want to go on my daily morning walks, but tomorrow (good weather) we're taking him to the bark park a mile down the road and letting him ramble through the 20 acres of wooded trails at his own pace and we'll see how he does. Good luck with your taxes. Seems everyone is paying this year. A LOT!

JUDI - what's the word from Michigan today? Are you getting hit by that big storm? You are inspiring me to bake some bread and maybe some hamburger buns (I have your recipe!) for our camping trip. Maybe I can smell my own baking and not have to life my nose towards Michigan!

TINA - how is the foot doing?

LOIS - there you are! I was worried you were sick. We cast a few glances at living room furniture Wed when we were in Lazy Boy. It's all so big!! Our living room is small, more like just a conversation area with the fireplace. Right now we have two loveseats, wooden rocker, and a small coffee table. If we got a big couch, we are limited in how to arrange it all and I'm a rearranger. So we're thinking a loveseat and two upholstered chairs (not recliners). One of these days we'll go shopping. And one of these days we'll paint, too. Your point of better weather for ventilation is a good one.

All I did here yesterday was strip the bed, wash the flannels, and remake the bed. It's still flannel weather here. And I finished two more NYB blocks. Eight to go! Trying to decide if I want to mess with this project when camping or take something more simple - like one of my Texas projects to finish. But some sewing project WILL go along. My hand embroidery for sure. This morning we are meeting G&T for breakfast and then they will be off on their drive north. This afternoon, I'll sew another block, and pack some things into the trailer fridge. We want to leave for camping a day early (Apr 11) and stop and visit Bill's sister but we're having a hard time finding a campsite - everything is booked. So we might just meet them for lunch and then keep on driving to a state park down the coast. Or we might visit them on our return trip instead. Bill is working on that.

Be safe! Be warm! Be dry!

Good morning!

We're 4 degrees warmer than yesterday, which translates to above freezing! In a couple of days it will be in the 70's, again. I do detest these false starts for Spring! But we're getting there!

The kids will start trickling in, back home today. Karlie will be home on Monday. Then the nest will be back in order.

Being Friday, it's the last day of PT this week. It's also General Conference on Saturday and Sunday. Church in my jammies and in the sewing room too! We'll watch it here and so I have this week off from music. I have a good substitute, the Tabernacle Choir! 😀 Dinner tonight is leaning towards clam chowder with a piece of sourdough bread. Now Sunday breakfast will be either orange stuffed croissant French toast, with orange syrup, or chocolate waffles with strawberry ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Still deciding. Standard Conference breakfast. Been doing that for many years.

After we get home, I'll be in the Batt Cave. Mr G is doing bills and I'll sew.

Hugs,
Jana

Overcast and gloomy. Suppose to get some rain, but missed us so far.

I get an email newsletter called the Brighter Side. Today there was an article about grapes and that eating grapes helps with muscle strength, especially when we get older. I like grapes and will add them to the shopping list.

Lois, I think waiting to paint is a look idea. I need to open windows in the Cabin, it's still smelling of fresh paint. When we bought this house we bought two rocker recliners and a loveseat with a center console/arm rest, that is also recliners and 3 small side tables.

MaryZ, Me on a pedestal, thanks but I'm just doing what needs doing or it won't get done. Only the sewing stuff out of the Jeep made it into the Cabin. I will have a TV in the Cabin and a rocking chair that was my grandma's. Garry out there....maybe....maybe Not.

I was busy ordering some supplements from Amazon and decided that Garry needs a new watch, his fitbit quit a while back. His birthday is Monday. I asked if he'd like a new one and he does, so then I spent a long time researching watches. He doesn't need all the exercise tracking stuff or answer the phone and it didn't need to be hundreds of dollars. I finally found 3 that would work, took a picture of them and woke him from his recliner nap so he could decide which style he liked the best. Then I decided that with possible severe thunderstorms, I should try and get the Jeep under the carport. The tractor is there and luckily, with some arranging I have both covered now.

Depending on weather, some things may get from trailer to Cabin today. I also have to find out what I need to do to get tags on the Lund boat, which is in Canada. It's always been registered in Colorado, but they told me we can't do that anymore and should have changed it when we became Texas residents years ago. It never bothered them before.

Time to get busy, coffee almost drank. Hope y'all have a good day.

Good morning, slept a bit better last night but still woke up about 1:30. Was able to go back to sleep in about an hour.

Jana let me see how far am I from you? Can I be there by Sunday morning? That sounds like a wonderful breakfast! I watched General Conference one year at my sisters and we did not have that for breakfast! I feel left out. That's when Monson was still around. He gave a very interesting talk. Nice for the Tabernacle Choir to fill in for you.

Maryz I do have a packing list. Most is packed but since DH is going today, I will pack my stuff later. I am not going till tomorrow. The Isleton Bridge will be closed when we need to come home so will have to figure that out. I am supposed to go to the shop in Vacaville on the 12th to work quilt rush, uhm, not sure how I will get there. Might have to go up through Sacaramento and back down 80. I usually bring a machine but don't think I will this year. I plan to bring the binding for my Radiant quilt and see if I can get that done. It is sewn on the front, just need to flip and stitch the back.

Lyn can't wait to see the finsihed sew cabin. How exciting. Yes thoses taxes can be taxing. Pun intented!

Flo our storm are done for a bit now I think. It's 39* now but should get to 73*, or so the weather man says.

Judi how did the embroidery go?

Maryq another baby? I must have missed something. My son is in Rapid City, SD, my Nephew is in Minnesota.

Chriss it will be nice to get away. I usually go back and forth though. The showers don't have enough pressure to rinse my hair so I either have to come home and wash it, or make an appointment in town. Then the hair dresser always wants to cut it. My opinion, if I wanted a cut, I would ask for one!

Quick update on my sister. Her kids have gone home. She is still quilte tired and not able to do much. Luckily her DH can care for the chickens, ducks, and dog. She said she is only sleeping half the day now as opposed to the whole day. She had labs drawn to be available at the appointment on the 9th. They are looking for an auto immune disoder. Hard to diagnos but I think she has Hashimoto's. That is a thyroid disease where the body attacks the Thyroid and causes hypothyroidism. My Mom had it and my sister has most of the symptoms. But we shall see.

On my knee way too long yesterday. Paying for it today. Time to go hit the Ibu, Diclofenac and will try the brace. I do have some things I have to get done.

Have a great day everyone.

Chriss what's shaking at your place?

Good Morning Girls

I think there is hope for us after all!! The snow is gone and the sun is shining! If only it would get warm enough to open up the windows---high today only 45*

Judi.... Oh how I would love some good seafood!!! Shrimp? Salmon? Talapia?

Flo... How are your chickens doing? Do they start to lay more now that the weather is warming up? Lots of folks around here would like to be able to have chickens in their backyards, but it's not allowed in the city limits. Folks on the farms are selling a dozen for $6.00!

Lois... New Furniture? How fun! Good idea to wait for warm days to paint.. it will help the paint dry better too!

Maryz.... Another sleepless night? Gosh I hate those toss & turns!! Have you ever had a sleep study done? I've heard they can do those at home now. I rarely sleep through the night either, tho I have noticed I do better with a couple Tylenol Arthritis before bed. I made a little Facebook group for local quilters and sent out invites to folks I knew, so far only about 14 responded. I do need to call the Library about borrowing their room for a meeting. I was going to stop by there, but haven't been out of the house all week! How long do you suppose it will take G & T to get to North Pole? It took Jen and I 5 days to drive from MN to AK.

Jana.... Seems like we both have had a lot of false starts.. It amazes me that we can have 73* one day and snow the next. Doesn't look like we are even going to hit 60* here for another week. I want to open windows!!!!

Lyn... Grapes are good for you? I mean for muscles? Yeah!! I do love red/purple grapes!! Once in a while I can get really good ones up here, and sometimes at $1.99/lb They do make a great snack when you are craving a sweet snack!

Valerie... Yup, another baby! My nephew Dan (I'm his godmother technically) and wife are having another girl in August. They live in St. Louis, Missouri so I don't see them much. Hope all goes well with your sister's lab. Fortunately, hypothyroid is a relatively easy fix. Just determining the right level of med is the trick. When my sis had her last baby, her thyroid went wacky and she had to go on meds right away.

Chriss.... Oh now wonder you're having such a time stripping that chair!!! 3 layers!! I have a little corner hutch shelf thing I bought at a garage sale in 1977, took me too summers to get that thing all stripped. It had a coat of latex paint that came off easily enough, but then a coat of oil-based paint and that sucker took some work!! I still have it and even tho I've thought of getting rid of it.... I keep it for sentimental reasons because I worked so hard on it!

Lori... Yup pretty much same thing here in MN. We call it two seasons... Winter and road construction! As soon as the weather warms up, the road crews come to either replace roads, put in road-abouts, or patch the potholes!

Since I can't remember the last time I washed floors I'm thinking that's what will be on the agenda today. I've been working on the wedding quilt and have little pieces of trimmings from HST's all over the place, so I better clean all that up and with luck be able to hit this sewing room this afternoon.

Wishing you all a Fabulous Friday

Good morning. It's a beautiful day outside. When the temperature rises about 5 more degrees I will open the house up.

A friend brought me a feral cat yesterday. One of many she plans to trap. Well, the cat isn't here this morning. He/She, not sure which, has a bowl of food so hopefully is just dinning on squirrels. I'm happy to have the cats here, hoping the squirrels pack their bags. I named the cat Gus and I hope he, or she, comes back because I don't want to waste a great name like Gus.

I actually got in some sewing time yesterday. Today will either be more sewing or weed eating. Not quite sure which to do just yet.

Lori, oh yeah, the chair. see when I listed things to do, I completely forgot about the chair in the garage. ugh. When I told MZ about the tape measures I thought of the belt clip and how unused it is. It will be interesting to see just what you find at your dad's house. Maybe you could get a notepad and make a mark each time you smile, laugh or roll your eyes. Wonder which one you do the most. Amazing how people can live in a house forever and cram stuff into every space imaginable. Hope things are coming along and moving forward.

Judi, Wish I could go to the fish market with you. crab cakes sounds really yummy.

Lois, lots of busy at your house. I'm also waiting to paint some of my rooms for the same reason.

Maryz, boy you lucked out here. my bobbin almost didn't make the run. I'll wish myself a full bobbin from here on out. I also washed the bedding yesterday. The flannel is in the linen closet and the regular sheets are on the bed. We will see warmer temps and maybe I can even sleep with the window open. Sorry Scottie is slowing down. give him a belly rub from me. Looks like you picked the right time to NOT be in Alaska, I wouldn't want to move a lot of furniture either. Sorry about not sleeping well. I hope that you find just the remedy to conk you out for the night. Grandma would say you need a shot of brandy, but that was her cure for everything. I'm more of a Tylenol PM girl.

Jana, woo hoo, sounds like a heat wave at your house. clam chowder sounds perfect, white or red? I don't think I've ever had red. I will be going out to a fundraiser breakfast tomorrow. pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage. It's for 4H. Otherwise, I might stop by and eat your wonderful meal.

Lyn, If we don't do what needs doing it won't do it's self. So, does the boat need a new license or just pay the fees? Happy birthday to Garry, hope he loves his watch. And I hope the rain cooperates so you can fill that cabin. I like grapes too. I am the snack person for July at quilt group and will bring a fruit salad which will include grapes. Jerry had a cousin who made grape salad, it was really good but I am sure full of sugar. They eat a lot of white food in the midwest.

Valerie, your what's shakin' question reminded me of a Cheers episode where they asked Norm, what's shakin' and he said all four cheeks and two chins. Sorry they haven't figured out yoru sis yet. I'm hoping she tells her doctor her family history so they have more ideas. Glad she has a husband to help, hope he stays healthy.

Maryq, I'm amazed at how quickly my floors need a good sweep. I really don't need a mopping, but someone here tracks in dirt, I think it's that lazy log snoring on the couch, but can't be sure. I will keep working on that chair. Today I will call the place that might be able to strip it the rest of the way. I did get a lot of it done but have a long way to go.

I've goofed off here just long enough for it to be warm enough outside to open the windows but I also see the wind is picking up. Perhaps sewing is a better idea than weed eating? May my bobbin stay full.

Dinner tonight will be something with chicken. Hope you all have a groovy day
