Thursday 4/3
Good morning, we should be starting to warm up now with no rain to speak of in the next 10 days. Some clouds maybe but that is it
I got both my blocks done at class yesterday. Our next class is a week early as instructor will be gone on the regular day. Need to remember this so I get my fabrics cut. I have figured out if my fabrics are cut and ready to sew when I get there, I can get both blocks done in the 3 hours of class. I a making two quilts for I have no idea why. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Jana there actually is a Rio Vista Museum. It is downtown across from where the bait shop used to be. On North Front Street. We have never actually gone in it. The one is Suisun is 23 miles from Rio Vista so you kinda threw me there for a minute. The Real McCoy ferry has been gone for years now. We never go that way anymore so not sure how the crossing is made these days.
Chriss did you get the weed eating done? I think working on the chair over the course of time is good idea. You know while I like sharing a meal with someone, I also treasure my alone time. I understand about the male person in our lives messing up cupboards. Same thing happens here. I straighten and straighten and straighten them, only to have them messed up the next day.
Today is packing what I can. I think my list is pretty complete. Will also sew a bit if I can. Hoping to take food from home and not have to buy too much at the store. I am not sure how many I am feeding. DD and her group have not voiced any of their eating plans. For now, I will plan on myself, DH and DS. There is a grocery store in town if needed and Wal Mart is not that far away.
Well I will sign off for now, maybe some of you will get up soon.

Good morning,
Today is massage day! Ahhhh........ And nothing else - that I know of, anyway.
JUDI - Did you get your stormy weather? Has your yard flooded? Our back yard, which slopes away from the house, has been flooded for about 10 days, though it's starting to recede now. Ducks come and visit us when we flood. Kinda cool! I love the ducks. But we've just had rain - no real storms. Didn't you used to always bake your bread a few years back? Do you use a bread machine or do it all by hand? LOVE the smell of home baked bread.
JANA - that's a great tip on satin stitching. I will try to remember that next time I need that skill. Tell Sarah thanks! My gramma always told my mom that her embroidery should look as good on the back as it does on the front. I've been embroidering since I was 6 yrs old, but my work never would have passed muster with Gramma Sophie!
LYN - Glad you are back 'home' again. Sorry about the bug bite. Do you use Cortisone Cream or ointment?
So much in Texas is going to bite, sting, or poison you. And the buzzards are constantly circling overhead, just waiting for that to happen! God's country! You have about 3 weeks at the house to get everything done. But the fun part will be filling and fixing your cabin. Enjoy!
TINA - I hope you made it home before the dirt storm yesterday. Daycare is ridiculous now. Gone are the 50 cent per hour babysitting jobs for high schoolers. This is one reason why A&A are so happy to have us come down in the winter - we watch Amara all day long. And love it! But boy, are we tired at the end of the week! I hope you got to go to the T-ball game.
VAL - I think the block I struggled with for two days was much like your MC blocks. At least I was thinking of you while I was working on it. Turns out all I needed was a bigger hammer!
So are you making two different quilts at the same time or two of the same pattern? Most quilts I make are just because I want to make it - I have no thought as to where the quilt will go. I enjoy challenging projects just to see if I can do them. Most times we don't bother with an umbrella in the PNW unless it's a real downpour. We are pretty used to doing things in the rain - even camping.
CHRISS - I had to nod my head knowingly when you mentioned Jerry would leave your flashlight just anywhere. Bill carefully guards his flashlights but anything else just gets set down wherever. Earlier this week I was at the grocery store and he called me - he'd set his tape measure down in ACE an hour earlier and would I please go look for it in the nuts and bolts aisle. I did and sure enough found it! The guy there said someone leaves their tape measure almost every day - and then realized he'd set HIS someplace and had to go looking for it ! I think men do this because they can only think about one thing at a time, and putting a tool (or anything!) away would be a second thing.
FLO - nice of you to help out with the babysitting. It's a huge expense for young families. I saw a big storm system crossing the middle of the country. Are you in it's path?
MARY Q - What did you do yesterday?
My day yesterday was walk at 8:00, chiro at 9:00, Lazy Boy in Tacoma at 10:00 to pick up Gene & Terry's new recliners. Meet them at Lynden Trucking Terminal at 11:00 where all their stuff was being unloaded from their U-Haul and palletized and wrapped for shipping north. Then we followed them to U-Haul to return the truck, then they took us to lunch, and we took them home. We got home about 2pm when I made a supper to take to Doyle and Susie. He is the cook at their house and he was one day post-op so we hustled over with our leftover pork tenderloin at 4pm. It was a full day. I did manage a little sewing here and there though. Today - massage at 11:00 and as far as I know, the rest of the day is mine. And our supper is still a mystery. I love mysteries.
Wishing everyone a sunny day!

Re: Thursday 4/3
Good morning!
We're below freezing at the moment. Waiting on more rain, which might be snow. At any rate, it's cold!
Sarah got off yesterday and with a slight change of plans. She left her car at Matt's and took his big Tahoe. And part of Matt's kids with her. The national park changed its entrance rules so you needed a reservation. Matt had his, but Sarah didn't. So now, the whole tribe on this trip, all fit in Matt's Tahoe, to get in on that reservation. Matt hauled the fifth wheel down with his truck. All are staying at a KOA in Green River, which happens to be just a open field from a main line railroad that is heavily used by BNSF. Definitely their father's children! Sarah called Mr G to see what the railroad was as she had already watched 5 trains go by. He knew.
Since it's Thursday, it's uglies day. Not too bad around here. I do have the kitchen a mess. I'm straightening up a couple of upper cabinets. Sarah, in her Infinite wisdom, of being helpful, got in and messed up my way of doing things. She bought a whole bunch of food for Mr G that he'll never eat and usurped a whole cabinet in my kitchen for him. Mr G doesn't cook! He's all thumbs even with the microwave! So after nearly two years of patience, I'm reclaiming my cabinets and my way of organizing! There's a bag ready for donation to the food bank too. Mr G is helping me. Then I'll be in the Batt Cave. It's a stay at home day.
Stu was over last night helping Aaron as the oil in Aaron's truck needed changing. So Mr G was also out there. Can you say the three stooges? They cleaned up their mess in my garage and put my Highlander back where she belongs. Stu found a YouTube video that he showed us. It was hilarious! It was a instructional video on how to change the oil on a Tesla. We were rolling on the floor with laughter. Matt has a Tesla, so we sent him the link. He was laughing too. His big boys got their own links and we're waiting for their reaction. There's a family joke about teaching Stu, when he was a teenager, about changing the "blinker" fluid on a car. This guy had a video on how to change the blinker fluid too! The guy who made these is named Chris Fix, if you want to hunt and see these. The jokes in these are subtle, but oh so funny!
The sooner I get started, the sooner I'm done!
Hugs,
Jana

Re: Thursday 4/3
Good day to everyone. A couple birds and of course the squirrel have found the feeders full. A Cardinal just showed up.
Valerie, I hope the fishing trip goes well.
Judi, I hope the storms miss you.
MaryZ, I bought a Benadryl Itch Relief Stick, it works.
Jana, I had forgotten that there's a Green River, UT. I lived in Green River, WY. Hope the kids enjoy spring break and have good weather.
I got a little more done on the taxes. A couple weeks ago our Vyve Broadband went off for a few hours because of an accident. When it came back on, the Honeywell WiFi thermostat didn't hook back up. It's important that I can control the temp when we're not here, with the app on my phone. I tried to reset it, but didn't work. I called Honeywell support and spent over an hour on the phone, but thermostat isn't seeing my Motorola modem. The guy emailed me some stuff to ask Motorola. I really didn't need another thing to do. And the guy messed up my settings. I may have to call the HVAC guy.
Today I will unload the sewing stuff out of the Jeep. I might try and unload the trailer enough to get to the shelving units. We're to have rain storms the next couple days so I will have to do inside stuff. And of course I have to finish the d#&m taxes.
Play with fabric for me.
Lyn

Morning
Yes I am in the path of the storm..
Daycare cost is why I was a stay home mom many years ago...people still say I was lazy and took advantage of my hubby...when kids were old enough to watch themselves I went to work to have a slower life! People can be ignorant.
Not sure what Tomorrow will bring.

Good morning Girls
It's beginning to look like Christmas here!! Oh wait, it's April!!! You'd never know it looking out my windows this morning!!! Rained/snowed off and on all day yesterday and we now have a couple inches on the ground. At one point I heard ICE drops hitting my windows!! I'm so ready for warm weather (warm....not hot!!)
Valerie... Since I was AWAOL yesterday I kind of missed a few things so will try to catch up today. You are planning your fishing trip? Pardon my forgetfulness but your son is in Minnesota? Or did you say South Dakota?
Judi.... Oh save the bread butts for me!!! that's my favorite part of bread, especially homemade bread. A little peanut butter/butter warmed in the micro for a couple seconds is delicious---which is precisely why I don't make home made bread from scratch--or even the frozen stuff!!! I'd eat the whole darn thing!!
Maryz... Men...... can't live with them..... pass the beer nuts (do you remember that Cheers episode.. How is Doyle doing? Back surgery? I think I spent most of the day trying to clear the deck around here of a few different things going on at the same time. Finished up some baby sleepers---some for my niece and some for other baby project. I had flannel in the garage and wanted to get it sewn up and outta here! I have 2 more "bundles of love" projects to finish (8" squares put together) and then I'll be ready to dig into Niece's wedding quilt. Just found out too that my nephew & wife are having another baby girl in August, so I might have to make a plan for another baby girl quilt! --Maybe a SBS would be easy enough! I too often wonder what other retired people do all day.
Jana.... Funny you mention "Blinker fluid" my brother used to try to get me with that one!! I hope Matt's Tesla is ok and that he isn't being hassled about it. Might be safer to leave it in the garage for a while. There is a Tesla dealer near the Target I go to and they were out protesting the other day. Kind of stupid if you ask me!
Lyn.... Yesterday I called my Corinne for her 16th birthday... you'll never guess where she was... South Padre Island... Just a stones throw away from you! Hope your bug bite it better. You know Minnesota is famous for its mosquitos and getting bit on the toes is the worst! Sometimes I've rubbed them down with rubbing alcohol and that has seemed to help a bit. Good luck with your taxes!! I have my Minnesota refund back already!!! I love getting a refund.
Chriss.... You stripping furniture?? Oh gosh... been there done that! In 1975 my Mom painted a wood rocking chair bright yellow for when Shawn was born. Under the seat she painted "Love Gram" Just the other day Shawn pointed out that he still has that rocking chair in his garage. I started stripping it a hundred years ago and never finished it. It's still 1/2 finished! I made him promise he wouldn't get rid of it.
Well, my coffee is cold, so I need a refill then I better get to work. I should probably start some laundry but might put that off until tomorrow.
Wishing you all a great day!

Re: Thursday 4/3
Good morning. It's going to be another beautiful day.
I worked on my little chair yesterday. Used a heat gun and it helped. Dad suggested, for the rungs of the chair, to put stripper on and wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it over night. I have a call into someone who may be able to strip it for me. We will see.
This morning I took the flannel sheets off the bed, I'm thinking I won't need them anymore this year. They are in the dryer. Today will be house chores. and there will be lots of weed eating this month.
Valerie, amazing how much stuff is needed to go on vacation. Whatever you take or need to buy along the way, it will be a fun time for all. I have a lot of weed eating to do. I have to clear 100 feet around any buildings. I have a weed eater with two electric batteries. It's a slow process, but like my dad says, It's just work. And as long as I am able to do that work I won't hire it out.
Judi, I am not a baker, I remember wishing that bread came in a half a loaf because I rarely eat it. But homemade bread sounds wonderful with too much butter. yum.
Maryz, I bet they are glad to have their things on a truck headed home. Will it be easily unloaded and put into the house once it gets there. Enjoy the message. I also like surprise dinner, I call it refrigerator pot luck. Don't get me started on tape measures. I picked up one from every room in this house. And there are more in the garage. 8, yes 8 regular tape measures and a couple that are over a 100 foot long. I have a tool box with a drawer dedicated to tape (measuring, duct, and painters) The plan is for dad to come up and we will sit in the garage and figure out what to keep and what to get rid of. Don't even get me started on sockets or hammers.
Jana, a trip to the park sounds wonderful. I thought, when I traveled through about 20 years ago, that Utah was a beautiful state, I imagine their parks are stunning. When I worked at McD's we had a girl go get the sesame seeds for the buns, she couldn't find them, your blinker story reminded me of that.
Lyn, I imagine that those birds and that squirrel were waiting for you. Their arms crossed and toe tapping telling you to hurry and fill that feeder, wondering what on earth took you so long. Happy unloading day. what fun to be you.
Flo, grandpa would say Batton down the hatches. Stay safe.
Maryq, the chair I am stripping appears to have three layers of paint. I'm sort of thinking the first layer was some sort of an oilyish sealer? the second layer was white with blue trim and the third, yellow. I'm pretty close to wood. the heat gun is a big help. but I am hoping that the person I called can strip it for me. It will be warm weather here the rest of the week and warmer next week, come on over.
Lori, hi.
I need to start my day, you all have a happy Thursday. Dinner tonight? something hamburgerish, I have leftover hamburger cooked.

Valerie, packing for a camping trip is a lot of work. Sometime when I'm packing to go somewhere I think, "do I really need that?" and turns out I don't.
Chriss, Hi. If I were to start a project like stripping a chair, I'd get about 25% in and decide not to do it.
Or just leave in the garage for a few years. You are brave to try it. I have my own tape measure and misplace it frequently. It's funny because it has a little clip on that you can attach to a pocket or belt, but for some reason I lay it down instead. I have seen a few at dad's house. I wonder how many things I will find there.
Maryq, I see you work like me. Start it and then put in the garage for years. lol Hope you start to warm up soon. I was watching a show last night that's in Montana. The guy said there are 3 seasons, July, August and Winter. Yikes.
Flo, I think with daycare prices like that more people are going to opt to have one parent stay home.
My mom watched my son when I was working. Plus Bill and I had weird shifts because we worked for Police and Fire.
Lyn, Taxes! I still need to start mine. They usually take about 4 hours. I think most of that time is spent looking for the papers I need. I'll probably do mine next week. Did you get the thermostat figured out? That's very frustrating that it failed.
Jana, glad the kids were able to make the reservation work. Remember when you could just go somewhere on a whim? Those days are gone.
Maryz, we have ducks come and visit us from the park about a mile away. Glad Gene and Terry got everything done and moving the right direction. That a big move for her. Hope it all works out and they are happy. You sure had a busy day yesterday. I think a little down time today is in order.
Judi, yes, commercial bread is full of bad stuff. The only bread you can buy without sugar is Sourdough. I get my bread from a bakery that has limit ingredients. I read if you keep bread in a beeswax cloth bag it will stay fresh longer. I don't know if that's true or not. It said that plastic traps moisture and causes it to go bad faster. I plan on baking my own bread when the dust settles.
The boys took me out for a walk. They are both napping now. I need to run the vacuum and figure out my day. Our evening farmer's market opens today, so I'll head over there later. Not sure what's for dinner just yet, but we won't starve. Maybe leftover soup.
I started to clear off my cutting table yesterday. So maybe I'll finish that and actually sew something. We'll see if that pans out. I think I'll have another cup of coffee before anything else.
Have a lovely day.

Judi, I forgot to mention that I use Sunrise flour which is a red organic wheat for all my baking. I can definitely tell a difference.
