Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Feb 28, 2025 4:26 am

Good morning,

And this will do it for February! It's going to be another beautiful spring-like 60* day here in Western Washington. The rains will be returning next week, but at least the temps for the foreseeable future are forecast to be solidly in the 50's. And the foreseeable future is the ten days on my phone weather app. And always subject to change, of course.

CHRISS - So you got the eggs at Costco? I still have a little over a dozen. But we'll be back to Costco again next week, I'm sure and we'll have to take an extra wheelbarrow of money if we get eggs. So, was Moose helping you or the squirrels?

LORI - It's amazing how much stuff can be crammed into a house over the years. Even an RV. I couldn't believe all we found when we moved to a new fiver in 2016. Did you find any unexpected treasures or surprises at your parents' house other than 2 months worth of jammies?

LYN - I sure hope other stores like HL and Michael's enlarge their sewing/quilting departments as Joanns closes. Or maybe -wishful thinking here - another whole company will rise like a phoenix from the fabric dust!

MARY Q - nice of you to share your fabrics with the textile center even if you thought they were ugly. One woman's ugly is another woman's treasure. Don't you have a little patio? I think pots of flowers would be amazing there! You could even do sweet peas on a small trellis to give the appearance of privacy. I used to have several pots of flowers on our deck but since we roofed it about 10 years ago I no longer get any sunshine out there. Most flowers want that sunshine. I've been going to the same hair stylist for about 15 years. She's in her 70's, in bad health, and only works 2 days a week. She charges $30 for a dry cut. She's good with curly hair so I keep going. She needs my money.

VAL - Have you tried Biofreeze on your achy parts? My chiro recommended it. For me, it works on some things and not on some others. But when it works, it's almost like instant local anesthesia. I use the spray version on my hip and low back. So, would this $1,000/week just be for one week while the friend recovers? And would this gig be heavy care or more like hanging out, giving meds, making lunch and maybe wound care? And would you stay at this person's house or commute daily? Lots of questions. Some paper piecing hints that have refreshed themselves in my mind with my current project - don't cut too much at once - paper or fabric. Label and bag pieces if necessary. Use lightweight paper like Carol Doak's FPP paper, and make your stitches as tiny as you can, but still large enough to get a seam ripper in them just in case. Because there will always be a few "just in case" instances. Oh, and use small needles and change them often as sewing though paper dulls them just like cutting paper with your good sewing scissors. And sometimes, when removing the papers, it helps to scratch them with a pin or needle. I am excited for you for tackling this M.C. project!

JANA - nice to have a day mostly all to yourself! Did you find trouble in the Batt Cave? And what did you get into? And how nice that your group wanted to know all about YOU instead of just what you could teach them.

JUDI - so?? How was the rum?? Did you buy any to take home with you? I have some jalapeno infused vodka from a tasting adventure we went on years ago in Sisters, OR. Still have half that bottle! Loved that NYB quilt you saw. All done in R/W/B is a terrific idea. Though it's not the same pattern I am doing. Any NYB is a great pattern can be a great scrap buster, for sure! How much longer do you have in FL? It seems like you just got there, but won't tomorrow be 2 weeks since you arrived at the house?

LOIS - have you gotten back into your sewing room yet? I know you've been kind of on a little hiatus.

TINA - I agree with others - you should get your foot X-rayed. I had another local friend who had almost identical complaints as you and she walked around for a long time before they finally took an XR and found a fractured bone in her foot.

Yesterday I finished another couple blocks, but spent most of the afternoon working in the yard. Then, since it was such a warm sunny day, we got carried away and set up our outdoor living room on the deck, BBQ'd, and ate dinner out there. We took the tarp off our big screen TV that's on the wall and it survived the winter just fine. We came inside by 6pm but it was so nice to spend a few hours relaxing, pretending it was summer. We might be able to do a repeat again this afternoon before our temps take a dive again.

Today I have chiro appt at 9am, a dr appt (BP check) at 1:30, and my chiro has ordered spine/hip XRays which I'll get when I go to the dr as they are same building. So my day is essentially shot as far as working outside. What a waste of a warm, sunny day. I think I'll make chicken enchilada's for supper tonite with the leftover cooked chicken from the grill last night.

Have a Fab Friday!

Good Morning Good Morning
I have been busy busy busy. I have been working outside since the weather here in Illinois has been crazy . Today is supposed to be 64 next week back into the 30's.
Yesterday washed all windows in sewing room and put up my new curtains. I have not replaced the old curtains since I made them 20 years ago. I also straightened out the fabric totes for the OWL quilt. I also worked om my Bargello heart quilt . Slow but sure is the motto here.
Today its regular house cleaning. Of course I been playing with Barney . At night I am on You tube live with a few quilty friends . Its called Rita's Roost. The lady has a small quilt shop { The quilted chicken farm} .
She sells most of her fabric for $10 a yard. I just purchased Dainty Meadow. I believe its a moda fabric. And she too just got in part of Rasberry Summer.
Well I need to go walk Barney.
You all have a great sewing day
Katy and Barney
Ps Ill try to get back tomorrow.

Good morning!

I'm up, sun's not. The sky is just starting to lighten up. And what else, we're cold! Starting off early today with Mr G's morning routine, we have PT today, and he needs all his "pharmacy " done and taken before. I also need to set up that pharmacy for the next two weeks, placing all the pills in a daily container and verifying I didn't goof. I'm doing this now, as Mr G has trouble distinguishing between some of the pills. And I'm the blind one! LOL!

Daniel and Aaron will be over this morning, creating, gathering, and making a dump run. There's a bunch of pieces parts from the old deck and miscellaneous junk, they'll get rid of. Then those two and Karlie are heading off to a model train show . It's like our quilt shows with vendors. Those two will be on the hunt for stuff for Mr G- more trains! Daniel finds the best stuff! Karlie loves being with her Dad and doing this too. The other little girls are not going, they would be bored in two minutes.

Looking to make a new skinnie or two in the Batt Cave. Pulled that stash of patterns to see what floats my boat. Each pattern usually has three different ones, same theme and I haven't made all of them yet. So there's something to keep me busy. The squirrels get restless with big projects, like OWL, so to keep them in line, I do a quick something.

Time to move,

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning,,,it is sunny and in the 60s right now...I have been up since 6. Sat and had quiet coffee we are headed to the farmers market again today we will plan and get the rest of the food for the next week...We leave friday, Ken has our route planned out and he is now anxious to go home, I am not so much, I think I could stay longer,,we are surprized at how expensive things are here,,,much more than home. I did get eggs a bit cheaper though I paid 6.99 for organic eggs..I bought 2 dozen. We will use them up before we leave.
The Rum Distillery was fantastic...I learned that rum was made with brown sugar to start but has low sugar when you drink it. we had a cocktail made with 2 different rums and cranberry juice and pinapple juice. it was very good and prompted me to buy the 2 bottles of rum to make more at home...so a very fun trip.
my cold seems to be getting better but still there,,, this too shall pass
Tomorrow is our dinner party. my younger sister and her husband, my cousin and her husband and us for a total of 8, it should be fun,,,
well I hope you all have a good week...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning to all. 58° going to 72° ,they say.

Diana and I had a good time checking out some Antique stores yesterday. We had never been to them, they were OK, but not worth return trips. The used bookstore didn't have any books we needed.

When I got back to the MH Garry tells me the black tank is at 100%, the toilet monitors are red, which means you can't flush the electric toilets. The Silverleaf control panel had a full tank alarm, too. All this didn't make sense because when I left gray and black tanks were both 50%. I emptied tanks, came in and half bath was OK. I flushed the toilet, walked to the master and Red light was on. Turned around and Silverleaf warning was on. Looked in half bath and red light was on again. This was just before 5. I called the tech in Colorado and spent the next 2 hours trying things, like shutting down all power and doing a reset. I ended with removing a panel in a bay to get to wiring and had found the one to cut so monitors wouldn't work and we could flush. I came in to get wire cutters, looked in half bath and no red light, master ok, too, and Silverleaf was happy. So far they are Ok today. I need to put panel back on, but will wait awhile. I really don't want to cut wires.

The QS sent an email last evening and are starting their going out of business sale today. I will go check it out after a hair trim this morning.

Have a good day.

Good morning Girls

Well, I'm caught up on the news! Since I don't have to go any place today I have time to check in and see how y'all are doing! Our snow is gone and it will hit 40 something today but we are under high wind warnings! Great day to stay inside and sew! (Oh and do some laundry!)

Maryz... Yes.. I actually have two patios. One out the front door and one out the door from my little sun room. They get morning sun so flowers do pretty well there. Kevin and Sara almost always give me a beautiful geranium plant for Mother's day. I saved last years and will see if it blooms. I have a bunch of pots in the garage ready to plant petunias (for Jen as her nick-name is Petunia) and Pansies for my Mom-her favorite. Your Tv does okay out on the porch all winter in the cold? It's a good sign that you can set up your summer porch--spring is on the way.

Katy.. You have been busy!! Call me crazy but I enjoy washing windows--can't wait until it warms up here enough to do that! Did you make new curtains for your sewing room? All my windows have mini blinds - which I hate-mostly because they are old and beige and ugly but are pretty standard equipment when they built these townhouses. I've made little valances for most of the windows just to have some color. When I win the lotto, I'm going to get all new blinds!!

Jana.... Do you have way to record all Mr. G's meds? When I worked in Long Term Pharmacy, every month it was my job to print out "med sheets" for several facilities. It's a paper form that staff used to log which meds a patient got and when. It's all done electronically now, but there are still those form available on the internet. If you haven't looked for something like that, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Judi... One more week in Florida? I guess I don't blame you for wanting to stay for a little longer. You are a brave women to spend that much time with family. I love my siblings, but I don' think I could share an Airbnb with them for weeks--- a couple days at most! Rum has low sugar? I might have to try that! A little rum in diet coke sounds kind of refreshing.

Lyn...You went antique shopping yesterday? Me too! I did find a couple books, and I love antiques but just no place to put another little thing in my house. I have several antique things that were my grandmothers-on both sides. Were you able to get your tank situation all fixed up?

Lori.... It is quite a chore to clean out parents closets and things. When we cleaned my Dad's office after he passed in 2002, he still had a box of his Mother's canceled checks--she passed in 1987! And the books!!! I think he bought every Time Life series of books there was. Now when I look around my house, I know my kids are going to have the same problem, cleaning out my quilt books and fabric and my little knick-knacks! Because my Mom knew her end was near, she gathered all of us and told us to share her stuff among and it worked out really well.

Chriss.... How fast will you go 5 dozen eggs? Do you cook them and freeze them? When I was at Sam's the other day I almost grabbed some and now kind of wish I would have, I could have shared a couple dozen with Shawn and Kris. I got a little tour of the textile center and it was really neat to see how the use the fabric. They sew 40" wide fabric yards end to end, until they have about a 5 pound piece. Then that gets cut into various sizes of strips 1" to 2" depending on what they will make out of that length. Then the strips are used in a loom to weave things like rugs or placemats. They had about 10-12 looms set up, but most of them were weaving a heavy thread. It was really interesting!

Since I've been out of the house every day this week, you can imagine the mess the gremlins have made while I've been gone. And of course the ADD has kicked in big time and I have several projects all going at the same time. Katie is doing some volunteer sewing for a local group so I'm going to make a few things for the group as well. First on the agenda is to clean up the kitchen and keep going with the laundry. Am thinking I'll sew up some of preemie vests I'm make. I'll share a picture when I get a couple done. I also have 4 Angel gowns cut out so will throw those in the mix.

wishing you all a Fabulous Friday

I have worked out a system for all Grumpy's meds. I have two holders for separate daily pill holders, that holds a days worth of meds to take. The holders then hold those for a entire week. Then I labeled each prescription container with a number that corresponds with that meds place in the daily container and the time it's to be taken. Mr G is extremely, beyond all belief, that those pills are correct. So he also has a picture, printed out as another verification step. And he stands, maybe hulk is a better word, over me as I fill the daily container. With his foggy brain, this would take him hours to put out these pills. We have 7 to do. So he finally allowed me to do this for him. All but two are very different in shape, size and color. Two, give me fits, they are the same size, shape, and color. And are taken at the same time. So I double and triple check those. Thanks for all the tips and ideas. I also stay on top of the insulin that he uses, two different formulas. That's why I call it a pharmacy! I am so glad that my meds are Advil and Tylenol! Oh, I keep track as to timing if Grumpy takes a Tylenol!

That's part of the routine here!

Jana

Lyn - you scared me - I saw a later post and now it's gone, so I went and checked my moderator logs and saw why. Did you get the wires behaving?

Jana, dealing with a bunch of meds is difficult enough without someone hovering over you.
You must be quite patient. My brother had someone come to the house every week to set up his meds.
He and my dad couldn't do it, and I refused. They finally assigned someone to do it for him.

Maryz, sorry your day got taken up with "not fun" stuff. I'm sure you still found time to enjoy the day at some point,

Judi, You must have really liked that rum. Is Ken the only man on the trip? If so, he's probably tired of spending time with all the women. Hope you got to enjoy your day.

Maryq, I'm already getting rid of my stuff. As I get older I realize I really don't need so much stuff. Thing I thought I wanted/needed, I don't anymore.

Lyn, it doesn't sound like fun having to deal with those issues. I don't think I would want to cut wires either. Hopefully the problem resolved itself.

Katy, did you and Barney have a nice walk. I bet the new curtains look nice on those clean windows.

Chriss, Moose is such a good helper. hahaha I did a eye roll today at something I found. A hand mirror with no mirror, but a note on it. It was my grandma's and my mom kept it because it was her mom's. I took a picture of it and the note and throw it away. My mom was very sentimental. I didn't get that gene.

Dad's not doing well and the hospice people are failing to meet the comfort expectations. I'm very disappointed in the treatment. A nurse is coming out in about 15 minutes, so I need to go over and talk with them. Apparently there was a nurse there yesterday, but no one called and let me know. They just ask my dad how he's doing and he says fine. As soon as they leave, he complains about pain.

Dinner will be tortellini soup and bread.

Sleep well my friends.

Good evening. Ida been here sooner but.........

Today was a really great day. This morning I went on my walk with my two friends (Debbie and Terry) Terry is Debbie's uncle. I gave each a dozen eggs. we walk two miles and I love it. After walking I boiled about 20 eggs and had breakfast. Then I went outside and did some weed eating. I still have a lot to do.

I also talked to the neighbor who lives across the street. I found out what he uses on his weeds between his fence and the road. I'm going to go get the same stuff. I won't have to weed eat that long stretch of hilly rocky knee high stretch of weeds. Pete was also here working on my dead trees. Things are moving along nicely.

Dad came up and Thank the good Lord, my electrical stuff is all good to go. I have lights and plugs and he doesn't have to deal with that issue anymore. While he was here I made deviled eggs and tuna salad, Dad took some of both home. There went some eggs. But I still have a lot left.

I eat a salad every day and often put a boiled egg or two in it. And I have become addicted to mock potato salad made with cauliflower so I will likely go through the eggs in good time.

Maryz, why the xrays? Are you crooked when you walk? hope the chiro helped. Enjoy your outdoor summer room. If you do go to Costco and decide to get some coffee to go with those eggs better get a bigger wheel barrow. $14 for a 2 pound 8 ounce can of Folgers. that's $7 a pound, hamburger is cheaper.

Katy, you are a very busy girl. Is the farm stuff all wrapped up? Happy new curtain day.

Jana, ugh, meds. I taped a list to the inside of a cabinet door where Jerry kept his drug store. It listed the med and, the dosage, and how many to take and when. I also had photo copies of that list and he had to check them off as he took them. We used that list when he had a new doctor and I always had a copy in my purse. My meds are Ibuprophen too. I haven't taken even any vitamins this year, I want to see what my blood work looks like without them.

Judi, sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Interesting about the rum. Enjoy your dinner party, it sounds like it will be a ncie gathering.

Lyn, I usually don't find much in antique stores. The few hand me downs I already have are more than enough, but I do like to look. Hope the tanks and wires cooperate for the rest of your stay.

Maryq, I'm not a big scrambled egg fan but I do like fried eggs. Sadly neither fill me up and I am hungry again too soon. I pretty much boil eggs and eat them that way. I'll go through an easy two eggs a day and more ifI make deviled eggs or tuna salad. Very cool about the textile place, I bet their rugs are cool, I'd like to see them. What is an angel gown? Curious to see what you are making for Katie's group. You made me laugh when you told Judi that you couldn't spend a week vacationing with siblings. Silly girl, Judi has rum, she will be just fine.

Lori, I would have also thrown away the mirror. I don't keep a bunch of stuff anymore either. I do still have excess in the garage but that will be whittled down with time. I also don't have the sentimental gene. Tahnk heavens for that. I'm sorry the hospice people aren't doing what they are supposed to do. I bet after meeting with them today things will change. It was the same when Jerry went into board and care, I had to make my point and they straightened up. Maybe you and I should go visit Judi for some rum.

Tomorrow I have volunteered to help wth the yearly Hornitos Enchilada Feed. It will be fun and I will receive, as my pay, two enchilada's. They will be fried up with a fried egg for breakfast.

Tonights dinner was tuna salad, I like tuna salad.

You all have a great night,
Chriss
