SUNDAY, January 12th, 2025
Good morning,
My second quilt class is done. It went very well, I thought, and I really enjoyed myself. Whew! We think we had about 15 people, but 4 of them were new, not there last week, came an hour late, and had no idea how to sew, and didn't own sewing machines. One thought Intro to Quilting meant hand sewing. But they caught up with the class! We worked on sewing our star blocks. Even Bill was teaching how to use rotary cutters and rulers. I gave them homework - to have their 3 blocks done and sewn together (no sashing) for next week. We'll do borders, quilting, and binding next week. But the highlight for me was our own Lyn stopping by with her friend, Carol! So good to see her again. Autumn was hanging quilts for the quilt show, but Lyn was able to look at all of them. Then she fixed a machine that was giving trouble to one of the students, and answered a few questions for others. She was a great assistant and I told her I'd share my wages with her. (Shhh....I didn't tell her I work for nothing).) And I guess this class is now going to be an annual thing. We'll see next year.....
LOIS - you are really getting into this quilting thing! Yay!! How big a quilt can you do on your QT? I use a straight quilting ruler sometimes at home. We do have one curvy design that I drew on paper and Bill cut out of our old ATV windshield. It worked well.
JUDI - I think it's time for some new summer things! Maybe it would be better to shop when you get to FL. They probably have cute summer clothes in the stores year round. I've forgotten the name of the quilt you are doing but I kind of remember the design. If it was in BLOCK magazine, I have the pattern at home.
MARY Q - I agree on the news outlets. Most of them are very liberal. We tend to watch Fox, which is conservative. But finally some of the media are starting to be held responsible for "enhanced" or even untrue reporting. I understand, though, that News Nation is a new news source (maybe 2 or 3 yrs) that is supposed to be non-biased. We don't watch it because whatever station it's on, we don't get. Did you get your groceries? Did you get started on Baby Boy's quilt?
LYN - So glad your Sewing Shed took another leap forward! Will you have heat/air conditioning in there? I was so pleased yesterday to turn around and see you standing there!! Thank you so much for coming by! A real treat for me. I know it was a long drive for you. And thank you for your help!! I really liked your friend, Carol, who was born at Christmas (just like my own friend, Carol!).
JANA - we've met many CA folks in our travels or who have moved to WA that describe themselves as "escapees" from CA. Says a lot. Scary to think their governor wants to run the entire country! I hope your roads stay clear. When you've got a lot of littles you need a lot of milk! What's happening in the Batt Cave lately?
TINA - I'm really getting curious about your placemats! Can't wait to see them. You really had a fun day with the grankids - Wii golf, supper, dominoes. My idea of a fun evening! You get more snow than we do at home. About every 3 or 4 years we get, maybe 3". Though in 2018 we had the snowstorm of the century - 18" in our yard. Most I'd ever seen in MY lifetime for sure! It was fun! Had to shovel a trail for Scottie to the woods . . .
VAL - congratulations on your new machine!! I predict a lot of fun hours in your future! Sounds like "Skip" was very helpful. Did you mean Farm Girl Vintage quilt was what he suggested? That is a fun one and you can make the blocks in 6" or 12". There is Farm Girl I, Farm Girl II, and Christmas. It's never too early to start planning your trip. You'll be taking your RV? If you think you'll be staying at KOA parks, getting their membership card (costs about $35 and is good for a year) gives you 10% off. It's worth it if you stay 4 or 5 nights at KOA's through the year, but don't get the card until your first night in a KOA. And they have 3 park designations: Journey, Holiday, and Resort and their prices reflect their designations. Texarkana has two and one was about $100/night. We stayed in the $35/night park and it was very nice and more to our taste. However, you may want to steer clear of Arkansas.
LORI - so glad to hear your dad might be relaxing a little. Poor guy. He's gone through so much the last year or two. Sending him a big cyber hug!
CHRISS - glad you've found a place for your unwanted fabrics! The Catholic Church to the rescue! I love our rummage sale, but it's usually held in July. I've found some wonderful bargains. Yes, if you stay over, you will also be Friday morning Gramma with even more gramma-ing possibilities! And also yes, in another year, there will be lots of floor rolling for you. I hope your kids have carpeting! I brought 10 projects to sew while we are down here. But I brought 31 finished quilts to display for the quilt show. You've seen most of them as I've posted pictures over the years, but next week I'll take several photos of the actual show. They were hanging the quilts when I left yesterday.
My class yesterday went very well. We were there from 8:45 to 2:00. the actual class went from about 10:15 to 1:30. There is a lot of set up time - my stuff, tables, chairs, machines, ironing stations, cutting stations, etc. Then we took it all down after class. Aut has staff that actually did most of the grunt work. When we came home we started picking up our campsite and packing things away for travel. We will be busy every day this coming week, mostly babysitting, and after 2 months here, we have a lot of packing up to do. This morning we are meeting old friends at an (heated!) outdoor restaurant for brunch. This afternoon we will do some grocery shopping. This evening we're going to grill burgers outside and do waffle fries in the airfryer. Plus, there is a little packing left to do. Weather isn't conducive to sitting outside so chairs, tablecloth, fake green "lawn", decorative lights, etc is all getting picked up, folded, rolled, tied, and stowed for travel. One day this week, Bill will drop me to babysit and take the truck to have our new hitch installed. Probably tomorrow or Tuesday.
My last project, Star Silhouette, is going together. The blocks are 4". The rows are 17 blocks. And there are 21 rows. I have 3 rows sewn together. From now on I will only have short bursts of sewing time available, but I think I can git 'er dun before I pack up my machine next Saturday morning. I thought my computer was dying. My screen suddenly started fading to black! I thought, "Oh no! The black screen of death!" Turns out it was Foxy who is sharing my lap with the computer (not an easy feat for a 20# cat!) and as he was nodding off, his head was slowly relaxing on my brightness key. Sigh. Crisis averted.
That's all I've got. I think enough stuff is going on that one big blanket prayer for everybody and everything everywhere is in order this morning.

The pattern I am working on is called Country road...It was a MSQC tutorial...I will finihs it but it will be a slow go...but since i have all the stuff to finish it finish it I will....my next project might be to work on the yoyo quilt i started amny years ago...I have over 500 yoyos made and may just start to sew them into a coverlette. and call it good. I still have the hexis to work on too...
Well Ken has finally gotten out of bed,,,he slepps late on the weekends so I will strip the bed and that will be my part for the day...see you in the sewing room...

Re: SUNDAY, January 12th, 2025
Good morning. It's going to be a nice springlike day today. We should see it warm up to about 60*. It will be a few hours before that happens, it's not quite 40* now.
The parents are supposed to be here today. I hope to get some sewing done before dad hangs the light and makes it work from the switch. I don't want to be in his way. I also bought my light fixtures for the kitchen sink and hallway, hoping he will offer to hang them as well. I'm moving away from brass things that were installed 35 years ago and heading towards brushed nickel.
Quilt group was good yesterday, I'm getting back into the swing of things. I will go through and pull any red white and blue fabric I have and make a veteran quilt top. The February meeting will be a tutorial on paper pieced hearts. I need to practice paper piecing, it's been a very long time.
Valerie, well? was it fun sewing on that beautiful new machine? Amazing the features they have come up with to make machines do so many things.
Maryz, That cat was messing with you this morning. Wanted you to think your eyes were failing. Glad the class went well. Sounds like you got everyone going and they will have finished projects to enjoy. What a treat to get to spend time with Lyn, I have to admit I am a bit jealous. I bet your head is already thinking about something for next year. Maybe Tina's VD placemats would be a good idea, I can't wait to see them. Nice that you can start packing up now, that will mean less packing later.
Judi, Ken will probably take the wrong clothes and need more of something. It's his tradition. Men sometimes are just stinkers. And I think he has an ulterior motive. If he is the worst dressed guy in Fla, and the two of you walk down the street hand in hand, everyone will look and wonder how a guy dressed like that got such a trophy wife. See, it's all his plan to make you look good. He's a sweetie.
I was going to have meatloaf last night but instead made patties from the mixture and fried them up. I don't have anything thawed out for tonight so maybe just some tuna salad. Guess I had best boil some eggs.
The last load is in the dryer, Moose has been outside at least 4 times this morning and I am ready to start my day. You all have a super Sunday

Re: SUNDAY, January 12th, 2025
Good morning!
We've warmed a bit, now at 25, with a bit more snow to come today. Went last night up to Sarah's for dinner. It was Stu's 28th birthday. He's more like my fifth child, not a grandson!
Church is in awhile. Today I have a hard hymn to conduct for two reasons. One, the time is hard and the other is, it's my mom's favorite. I can get through part of the opening line, then i can't sing it, as I'm tearing up. We always tease, as my mom would tell us that hymn had to be at her funeral, or she threatened to come back and haunt us. Sarah played that hymn as her grandmother requested. We don't believe in hauntings! I will manage today. It's been 25 years since I lost my mom.
Oooh, snow's here - big, huge flakes!
Maryz - glad class went great. There's always ones that don't quite understand words. Next week's finishing clas will be great too.
Judi - Mr G hates shopping for clothes too. So I just do it. He's not too picky. Any shirt has to have a pocket. Period! No if's, ands or buts! So as long as I meet that criteria, we're good. When we traveled, I laid out a choice of shirts, he'd choose, then I packed. But when it came to his computer stuff, that was all him! He took up more space than the rest of us. But that was OK, he would work as I drove, so we got paid and didn't use vacation time.
Chriss - I remember helping my mom organize rummage sales, oh so many years ago! My mom got a old wooden ironing board at one, that she had until she died. I should have kept it, but it was way too short for my height. Just right for her, she was only 5'2 and shrank as she aged.
Tomorrow is my Emma's bd. She'll be 12. Bd's for this month are done, then we started with 5 more in February.
Time to get dressed and find a less scary face in the drawer,
Stay warm, enjoy the day!
Hugs,
Jana

Re: SUNDAY, January 12th, 2025
Good morning everyone
Maryz, wow you've been busy! How awesome to get to see Lyn! How cool she got to help with your students too! I'd say fun was had by all at Autumn's library, it's THE place to be! Even though I live in the desert it seems I have come to the conclusion that we have extreme weather for heat, cold, snow, rain and for sure wind..... it's not at all like anyone would expect a desert to be I'm thinking.
Judi, MZ made me tired too
I leave Frankie's clothes for him to sort too, luckily Jazmyne covets his western pearl snap shirts and she helps him keep his clothes thinned out but really he has enough to go probably a month without repeating any shirts, pants not so much. And he has shirts that still fit him after 40 years, ugh. Maybe Ken's moto is why do today what you can put off till tomorrow
Chriss, I like the way the brushed nickel looks too. I used to make burgers out of meatloaf fixins, I called them surprise burgers, they were yummy..... haven't made them in years.....hmmmmmm.
Jana, Stu can't be 28! Where did the years go?! Frankie doesn't shop for his clothes LOL all he has are gifts from everyone.....last time I remember him actually shopping for clothes was before we were married 40 years ago...how funny. Jazmyne is more like our 3rd child, she lived with us until right before her 4th birthday and then was still here every day that she could be. Enjoy your hymn and remembering your mom

Lois, yum the bakeries smell delicious!
I don't know if you all will like my placemats LOL they are very kid friendly like LOL I'm just a kid at heart I guess. I have my embroidery for my hearts done, it took me 2+ hours just to do that....I tell you all I'm slow
but I'm really having fun..... just having ideas pop in my head and seeing if I like it.....no pattern just my mind.
Our high is supposed to be 47Β° today, our week will be pretty cool and winds will start by Wednesday I think it says.
You all have a great day!
Prayers for all in need
Tina

Good Morning Gals
Well, I've watched all the news I can handle this morning, just trying to get an update on the fires etc. I watch a lot of FOX too, but try to get balance it a little with CNN of MSNBC, but I usually quickly turn them off.
Maryz... Was thinking about you yesterday afternoon as I was puttering around here. Are you doing another class next week too? How fun that Lyn and her friend we are to join you. I always think it's so neat when we, as spread out around the country as we are, are able to actually meet in person! It's always been a true joy for me to meet quite a few of my "quilting buddies" in real life. What awesome friends we've all become over the years. I did get a little start on the baby boy quilt yesterday, but I'm short of the fabric I really want to use to sash around those little blocks. It's a black and white stripe, but on the diagonal. I have some regular black and white stripe that I could cut on the diag. but I would only use that as a last resort. I'm only about 1/2yd short--- but I have time and can make a mad dash to the fabric warehouse one of these days. I'm sure I could talk Peggy into going with me .
Judi... I'm sorry, but I am so chuckling at Ken and packing for vacation!! I don't think my dex ever packed his own suitcase. I will cut him a little slack, only because he worked about 60-70 hours a week for many years and just didn't have the time. He never gained or lost an ounce in 28 years so he was easy to shop for. And I agree, men can be annoying!
I did see that country roads tutorial a while back, I do love "lattice" looking quilts and as luck would have it, I found one of little "honey buns" she mentions in a drawer the other day---I forgot I had it!
Chriss... Glad to hear you are getting back into the swing of things!!! I had a lot of brushed nickel in my house, the kids have changed most of it back to kind of a brushed brass!! Kris is going to save all my brushed nickel door handles for me so I can use them here!! Are you using a particular pattern for your veteran quilt? Have you ever checked out the QOV website? They have a few free block patterns there.
Jana... My mom used to sing in the funeral choir at her church, in her last months she made us promise that would we NOT have "On Eagles Wings" at her service. She sang that so many times, that she never wanted to hear it again! It's a lovely song, but she was quite sick of it. One of her favorite songs was "Danny Boy" and I think we might have had that sung.
Tina.... I saw a pick of Jaz on FB the other day. My gosh she is a beautiful young lady!! And she sure sounds like a sweet girl. Aren't we lucky to have amazing grand daughters!
Well, we finally got some snow! Still some flurries in the air but I think it will end soon. Normally they shovel and plow here, but I just might bundle up later and go shovel the snow from my patio--it will get me outside for a little bit and get some fresh air in my lungs. I tend to hibernate in the winter and go out only when absolutely necessary!
Will crank up the music here, grab some coffee and head to the sewing room!
Wishing you all a bright and sunny day!
Re: SUNDAY, January 12th, 2025
Well good afternoon, finally getting a sit down time. Well I had one earlier but was doing my work class. Was supposed to be 1 hour, but turned out to be closer to 2. Have also gone Grocery shopping, had my breakfast and lunch. Gas in the car and $$ in my pocket. Picked up some summer rolls and low and behold, there is no sauce in the container. Guess that is now extra. Oh well, shouldn't eat that stuff anyway.
Once I got the machine threaded and all, it sewed wonderfully. If I get time I am going to finish up some blocks for my BOM (windsong) and continue to pray that someday my next blocks will get here. They were mailed on the 19th of Dec, have not arrived. Getting the run around from the shop so not sure what I will do. I did purchase a boo boo kit some am thinking maybe I have enough of the right fabrics to make the 4 missing blocks. The next shipment should ship around the 15th.
Maryz we are going to drive cross country. Stay in motels, not cook or clean. Stop where we want. At least that's the plan. I will firm things up as we get closer.
Maryq I did look up St. MIchaels to Erhard. We would be coming from most likely Vermont so may straight through your neck of the woods. I myself love the song "On Eagles Wings". We used it at the funeral of a beloved Scout Leader when he died. He worked with many a scout on getting their Eagle rank so probably appropriate.
Jana I guess if you have a serger that would be a great way to do onsies. I am getting used to the machine and then when I am ready, I will give Skip a holler and he will come show me about the ebroidery and quilting part.
Lyn so fun to go see Maryz. You know, I only really know Chriss in person. There used to be another girl here named Debie if I remember right. I did meet her once or twice but that is all. It would be fun as we drive cross county to stop and meet everybody, but alas, not enough time. DH only gets 3 weeks off so that limits things.
Yes Chriss glad you are back to sewing. I really going to try and focus on mine. I have two machines up so if I can figure out how to work on two things are once. Uhm? Very nice here, 65, leaving the doors open for a bit. Love fresh air.
Lois you have bombs at your house? Me too! Dad's room looks like possibly two went off in there. But until DH has the time to help me with the totes, it will just have to stay that way.
Judi my DH shops for his own clothes. He is way too picky for me. OMG, he goes and get his hair cuts, pays for it, gives her a $15 tip and then comes homes and fixes it!
Judi I did go back to bed this AM, Big mistake, it was 8:15 before I got up. Guess I was tired. But it put me behind. I looked at that tutorial. That is a pretty cool looking quilt. I am trying to choose something for MAD monday tomorrow which is where we make charity quilts but we pick our own patterns.
Well, guess I should get to sewing a bit for today. Going to close up the house as it's starting to get a bit of chill. Have a blessed Sunday.
