Good morning,

We're warm and windy this morning here, but rumors are we're going into freezing temps starting tomorrow. Sigh. Well, who wants 70* in January anyway.

First quilting class is over. Whew! Turns out 17 people came! Yikes! There was no registration process. Nearly half had NO sewing experience whatsoever and didn't own a sewing machine. And of the people who did have machines, only one brought it. Turns out that was OK since we were starting at the very beginning, discussing fabric, thread, and showing them the star we were going to do. The last 2 hours of class was learning to cut fabric. With only five cutting mats and 17 people, it was a bit chaotic. But people were patient. Amazing that the same number of fingers left the building at the end of the day as came in in the morning! I never thought you could use a rotary cutter the way some of these gals were trying to use it! The library purchased quite a bit of fabric, 2 sewing machines, five 8-1/2"x24-1/2" rulers, five Gingher scissors, five sewing kits filled with with threads, seam rippers, msrg tapes, pins, and more, all in a specialized carrying case. They also ordered cutting mats but they hadn't arrived yet so it was a good thing I brought all five of mine from home. It was hard to answer everyone's questions. They came thick and fast. I think everyone got their project cut out, and two planned to try to sew them at home. But next Saturday the plan is to sew them together and the last class will be quilting and binding. It's a lot for 3 classes. And Autumn told me they will probably want me to do this every year from now on. But it was overall a good experience for me and I hope for the students. Two people left saying sewing wasn't not their thing but everyone else was full of thanks and went home smiling. Autumn casually displayed about a dozen quilts. More will go up next Sat. She immediately confiscated my yo-yo quilt for her birthday present! lol! Bill took a few pictures and I posted them in Photos. A HUGE thank you from the students, the library, and myself to those of you were kind enough to share some of your own beautiful fabrics for this project. No one expected this kind of turnout and the fabric the library and I provided was clearly not enough! You ladies were life-savers!

IRISH - your sister is a real pistol! But, if she doesn't kill you, she is keeping you young! I could never keep her/your hours! lol! So you are getting new flooring, too! Well, talk to Mary Q and Chriss, who both got new floors recently and both are going to or did have them replaced. Mary's rolling chair ruined her floor. LYN is also getting flooring put into her sewing cabin.

LOIS - thank you for the vote of confidence. Are you starting your new project today or waiting until tomorrow?

BECCA - sorry you have to go out on errands and appts in such cold weather. Do you have snow on the ground? Phone business would probably put me over the edge. I so don't deal with electronics well at all. I was very proud of myself that I showed Bill how to use emojies. He is all about electronics of all kinds but he didn't know how to use emojies.

JANA - so sorry you and Michael are going through dementia issues. There are so many kinds, levels, causes. And the patience required by family and caregivers is phenomenal. My brother, Gene's wife had Alz and a friend recommended the following book for him. It's written for loved ones to read and explains so much in a conversational manner, with humor. So I read it, too. Even though I'd cared for many dementia patients in my pre-NICU nursing days, I learned a lot. It's called Creating Moments of Joy by Jolene Brackley. And thriftbooks.com has it for less than $5. Well worth it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/264617705462?c ... gKpovD_BwE

JUDI - how was the party? What gift did you come home with? All that fun plus a new baby girl! What is her name? I told Bill your comment yesterday about pregnant rabbits in your basement and he's still laughing! But all the talk of purging is making me anxious to get home and do it myself! My DMIL had a lot of beautiful Christmas ornaments but after she died and Dad E moved on with life, his new girlfriend moved in and she and her daughter threw away all of my DMIL's ornaments. In fact, all of her everything! So I have nothing of hers. When we were growing up all my parents' Christmas decorations filled one cardboard box, about the size of today's plastic totes. That was it. Nothing outside. We cut our own tree on our own property and didn't put it up until about Dec 21. The tree, the chipped, mismatched nativity set with the shoebox it was stored in turned on it's side to serve as a stable, and a small ceramic Santa/sleigh were all we had. It was so exciting to put it all up! And some years we kids got to use templates and Glass Wax to decorate the windows. Those were big years for us! We had to be very careful putting the tinsel on the tree so it would hang just right - and then even more careful as we took it off, saving it for the next year.

CHRISS - how was your church meeting yesterday? Any decisions made? My mom made special pancakes, too, but they were her dinner pancakes. Sometimes she would add shredded cheese and cooked, crumbled bacon to the batter. Sometimes creamed corn. Now you've got me hungry for pancakes for supper! Maybe tonite.

MARY Q- You are right! The squirrels were on a rampage at your house yesterday! I actually like that Rocky Mountain High quilt, though I never made it and probably won't despite all the family I have in CO. So is today going to be more of the same or are you settling in on something? What quilt are you making the baby girl? You told us fabrics, I think, but is there a specific pattern? Did I miss it?

VAL - the same is true of most of the quilts I make - no plan, just want to make them. I tend to try something challenging - step outside my comfort zone - and then relax with an easy pattern. Then try another challenge. Bill got me Cinzia White's book, Dazzling NY Beauty Sampler for Christmas. Now we are talking Challenge with a capital C! But I'm going to give it a go in 2025.https://www.amazon.com/Dazzling-York-Be ... 9058&psc=1

TINA - I try to keep up with my dresser drawers but I don't dare touch Bill's because "I'm not his mother!" So his are a disaster and he never gets rid of old clothing - just keeps piling the old stuff up in the closet. I'm so tempted to sneak something out of the bottom of the pile about once a month and see if he notices. But he probably would and then we'd have to have a fight about it and it's just not worth it.

LORI - We also shred as we go through life. Do you do anything with your shreddings? I've been told they aren't recyclable, but some people use them in their flowerbeds and gardens in winter. In your climate you might not want to do that.

Today is relax day. Warm and windy. But our temps will be dipping drastically. I need to do some cleaning in the trailer. And I got out my Star Silhouette project which is composed of 374 4" blocks. Each block is two 2-1/2" HST's and two 2-1/2" squares. I have 198 blocks left to do. If I get nothing else out of this project, I've finally learned out to spell silhouette! And now Chriss and Tina have me thinking about pancakes so that just might be our supper tonite. And I'll use Mom's recipe and add some shredded cheddar and maybe creamed corn.

Seahawks play their last game today. I hope I can stay awake. Football tends to put me to sleep. They are out of playoff contention now but we still will enjoy watching. Or sleeping, as the case may be.

Have a great day!

Good Morning I was up and dressed but waited for Maryz to post...I did spend yesterday before the party sorting tax papers and last years file...I kkep most everything during the year and the new year means getting tax stuff together,,,We do not itemize anymore but I keep it just in case the tax codes change and I need them. I never know...so that is done I have a giant pile to shred and might have to take it to the shredding place to get rid of it...it has so much personal information I cant throw it away and I am afraid my shredder wont handle all of it. it is a dollar a pound to shred so we shall see. Ken says to burn it but it is so very cold I am not one to stand and guard a burn pile in this weather,
The Party was fine we left a little early around 615 but we had done the "From the basement" and it was a lot of fun,,,My sister had a vase that belonged to my Godmother and every one rememebers it sitting on her table,,,I ended up stealing it and bringing it home...a treasured memory. No one even knew my sister had it...she generally like my mom doesnt save things,,,She said it was in a box and over looked by her,,,I now have it,,,it isnt valuable but it has sentiment,,, We did end up watchong the last of Liams hockey game and they won again,,,then home to watch the last of the Red wing game and they won....Now tonight it is GO DETROIT LIONS...playoff bound...and even Super Bowl bound..I wont make it to the end of the game as it is on late tonight,,,but an exciting game for sure,,,,(I never watch football but enjoy the comments fron Ken) the monday morning quarterback..
Well I need to get moving not much planned Ken had a friend pass away friday and he may or may not go to the wake today,,,if he does I will be on my own and might just might get into the sewing room to clear the cutting table of tax paapers, and be prepared to sew something,,,
Hope you all have a wonderful day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Morning
Friday didn't go as planned, I didn't want hair cut because I didn't want to have the hair pieces on my neck all day. Decided to come home early which was good. Tree came down, hit water spigot on driveway & broke it. We quickly dug it up and did quick repair. We are on well water, so no large water bill.
Storm hit overnight, so we are home til Monday afternoon.

Good morning, quick drive by as I have to get in the shower and leave by 9:30 and don't have my chores done yet. Yes, I have been sitting around most of the morning.

Maryz that is a challenging pattern. Similar to my New York Beauty pattern DH bought. I am going to try to get mine done this year too. I am actually going to plan out my year of quilting I think, We will see Wow 17 students, that is great! The shops here are having difficulty with getting class sign ups but I think it's mainly because they charge so much. An example is $60 to learn to sew a apron? I can just read the instructions. I do still take few from specific instructors but not like I used too.

Judi I tend to keep stuff I might need for taxes too but no longer itemize either. But you never know, things may change. I am holding my breath a bit this year with both jobs but I did have extra taxes taken out so hoping that helps. My niners had a down year, lots of injuries but there is always next year. Pro sports are like that go, so years are good, some not so good.

Flo glad you came home early. Is it possible for a well to go dry? Prayers for everyone getting hit with the storms. Izzy's church had to cancel today due to the storms. Just not safe to be out there.

Lori yes we are using cube, angles and corners for this quilt. I am doing the 12 inch. I do have some other dyes though. They have really gotten pricey.

Irish safety needs to come before Bingo, my my! Glad you made it home in one piece.

Well, all, DH went shopping again! This time, he is buying a Janome M17. Yes, I have an M7 but it doesn't embroider. The M17 embroiders and has a quilting hoop. I tried to explain the cost associated with this but he did get a decent deal. The machine, and a large Horn cabinet for $20,000. I think it is the model 8479 but not sure. I am just praying it fits in my room. Both are floor models but in great shape and the machine has not many stitches for an embroidery machine. Skip (one of the owners) is going to get me the exact number. They are going to service it and sell it with a full warranty. They will also deliver. So I have to go on Monday AM and pay for it and arrange delivery. What am I going to do with him! So I think I will move my cutting table out to somewhere else, Maybe Dad's old room so DBIL can't come back and put my M17 on the other wall. That way I can embroider and piece at the same time.

But for now, I have to get my day going. It is Free Sew today. Hoping to get the borders on my Radiant quilt. Will post a pic if I do.

Good morning!

I've got a extra bit of time now on Sunday mornings before church. We start later, at noon, but ol Mr G is fussing about getting his breakfast and meds in him, so that now is being accounted for.

Maryz that was a fun recount of your yesterday. Glad there were no mishaps with the rotary cutters. That was the first and biggest rule that El taught in our teacher training course! Next week will be fun too. Autumn may claim more quilts as she sees them! You may have lots of unused space in the trailer bins when you leave!

Three easy hymns today. I've done these many times. It's nice to sit on the stand, in the front of the chapel, that space is always nice and warm! We are quite cold here and a little snow fell at my house, but is totally gone now. I call it, designer snow, very little here and lots on the mountains where it's useful!

Stu hauled the totes to the Batt Cave and packed them away. Even the ones in Mr G's office. I am now wrapping the ornaments for storage. Each is wrapped in tissue paper before it goes in the ornament storage box. Sarah found a ceramic place, online, that sells ornaments. I made many years ago a bunch of teddy bear ornaments that the kids all love. One they fight over to hang on the tree. Daniel wins that . So I'm getting some more and will paint them, so each family and grands can have some of these bear ornaments. I haven't paint much, so I need some practice, especially with the eyes. They are really not hard. These ornaments are already fired, bisque, just white, so I add all the color and a varnish coat.

Not much here. Thanks for the good advice on dealing with things.

Oh, almost forgot - Maryz - we watched a program last night called Alaska Mega Machines - it started with a large ferry that carried supplies, cars and people to get from one place to another easily. Thought of your trip last summer. Then they showed a road that was a royal pain to keep open for trucks to use for supplies too. It was called the Dalton Highway. I'm sure Gene has driven that road too! Very interesting show.

Well, I need to get ready, dressed and that includes pantyhose. :)

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning my friends. It's going to be a beautiful day today. Remember that winter I was wishing for when it was over 100*? Well it's here. Wouldn't mind a little more rain but the cold is certainly in the air.

No real chores on my docket today. I have one or two more totes to look through for that binding fabric and if I can't find it I will go with white. I've also decided to make deviled eggs for my pot luck dish so I don't have to go to the store for beans. I have the already boiled and peeled eggs from Costco and it will be a quick to put together food.

Maryq, So glad the squirrels were at your house yesterday. Fun to walk into the garage and pick a project. The city quilt sounds like fun, does it have roads to drive little matchbox cars on? Grandma would say, be careful and if you can't be careful be good. I never knew what that meant until I was easily in my 30's.

Tina, We all could have gone to bingo. It really is fun, and doesn't quite cost $20. Marilyn loved those waffle sticks. How is your dad doing?

O'Dorothy, you sound like me when I was going through my big purge. Move it from room to room to make space to put it in order then unload that room into the other room. It's like moving the pile 10 feet only to move it back to it's original spot. Never had chicken ala king but googled the recipe. Looks sort of like a chicken pot pie with no crust.

Lori, Mexican bingo is called Loteria. It's pictures instead of numbers but I've never played it before so have no clue what to expect. The company putting on this Loteria / brunch has a taco truck. They also make tamales for sale.

Maryz, you made me laugh about spelling silhouette. I was felt the same when I was making poinsettia blocks. I've never had creamed corn in pancakes. Dad used to take leftover corn and mashed potatoes, add milk and baking powder until it was like pancake batter and cook it like pancakes, that was good with a fried egg. I look at the pancake mixes on the shelf, see the carbs, put the mix back. Sounds like a perfect quilting class. Hoping that no one was intimidated and they all come back next week. And you get a whole year to think about what you will teach next January.

Judi, I also had a lot of stuff to shred and just did it a little at a time, then off to the dump it went. I tried burning it but the pages floated in the air so that was no longer an option. Then it made me think. I could just put it in the regular garbage, is anyone really going to go through my trash once it gets to the dump? It's like the rotary cutter blades or sewing needles you see people protecting so no one on the receiving end gets cut up. Are they really going to rifle through my stinky garbage? Glad the party was fun and you got the vase. Very cool.

Flo, so glad you were home in time to resolve that water issue. I go out and look at my water spigots often, I am also on well water. I do know where my shut offs are if something does happen.

Valerie, wow, that's quite a machine. So exciting. Is DH making ammends for BIL being so much trouble? I think making the room into a sewing room is a great idea. I love having a dedicated sewing room. My spare room doesn't have a bed but I really don't get overnighters. I will get a blow up mattress incase it's needed but it's been a very long time since someone has slept over. Enjoy your new toy, hope it arrives soon. I also don't itemize and am holding my breath regarding taxes. I have no idea what to expect. Next year will be much better, I'm hoping.

Jana, you have had a lot of great advice on dealing with the memory issues but even more important is the support, you have a lot of that too. Love that the kids want to hang that special ornament.

Time to get dressed and start my day. Not sure what dinner will be, I didn't thaw anything out. I'll get my deviled eggs done and go play in my room. You all have a fantastic day

Hello from the Hill Country. MaryZ is right, the weather is going to change, because you gals north just have to share.

MaryZ, Holy Moly 17!! By the photos, you look like you had it well under control. How long was the class? I must have missed a post, way back, that you were accepting fabric for the class. I would have gladly filled a box, when I was loading in Colorado, and given it to you when you got here. Maybe next year, let me know.

Judi, Sounds like a fun time. I'm glad you scored on the vase that was your Godmother's. Things that have memories are worth so much more than $$.

Flo, Glad you caught the water break quickly. Does that line have a shut off or did you need to shut everything off to repair? Stay warm.

Valerie, That DH of your's is a keeper. I just watched a video on that machine, WOW. I think taking over Dad's old room is a perfect idea to limit unwanted company.

Jana, It's nice that the kids are so helpful. There's a book that my sister recommended to me, her hubby has Alzheimer's. It's, The 36 - Hour Day (I have the 7th edition). A family guide to caring for people who have alzheimer disease and other dementias. It's written so you can look up a subject and turn to that page for answers, suggestions and examples. I turned to Content page and came across, When a Person can no longer Manage Money, page 48. You've reminded me that I need to look at this book more for what's happening here.

Chriss, I have a low carb pancake recipe, I will text it to you, just in case. They are good and my kids liked them, it's the only recipe I have used in 24 years.

Yesterday was an easy travel day, only 253 miles, and not much traffic. We dodged a huge back up, south of San Antonio. As we came up to the stopped traffic, there was an exit. The GPS in the Jeep doesn't always tell of road problems. I quickly audio googled our address and Google maps showed back up and a detour, so we got off at that exit and hit the back roads. Not sure I would have done it in the MH, there was a couple miles of dirt road. Got home at 2:30, unloaded the Jeep, made a quick shopping list and hit the grocery store.

There's always something that needs doing, but I might be lazy today. Y'all have a great day and stay warm and safe.

Lyn, glad you were able to avoid a traffic jam. There's always something to be done. Take some time to relax and enjoy.

Val, that's a nice machine. Perfect timing with your up coming retirement. You'll have lots of time to use it.

Chriss, I hope you find your binding fabric. You didn't use it for something else did you? I've done that before. Sounds like an interesting game, and a taco truck sounds really yummy.

Jana, that show sounds interesting. I wonder if that's the same ferry that Mary traveled on.

Judi, have fun sewing something.

Maryz, that's a good sized class. I wonder how many will come back next week. Hopefully they show up with sewing machines. The library sure bought a lot of supplies. Are they going to continue this venture with other teachers? We're having a warm day too. It's in the 70's. I love it.

Flo, smart to stay home when it's stormy out. Are you going to get that really cold air coming down?

We took the boys to the park. They were very happy. Came home and I made some scrambled eggs with ham, and toast. Did a few thing around the house. Now to get cleaned up and go see dad. Then I'll have the afternoon to sew or do whatever I want.

Dinner will be teriyaki chicken, oven potatoes, and fresh steamed broccoli.

Have a lovely day.
