JUDI - sorry I tippy-tapped on you! I didn't want to get up this morning either, but Ms. Riley seemed to be hungry and she has her ways of making sure someone feeds her NOW. And for some reason that someone is never dad! Will get to work this afternoon on some pink blocks!

Re: Sunday, September 29th, 2013
Good morning! I slept in. We had an inch of welcome rain yesterday, and with the cooler temperatures we now have a pea-soup fog. When the sun sleeps in, so do I.
I had a nice visit with mom yesterday. She is busy making pillows and aprons for my sister to sell with her things at a couple of crafts shows. I picked up Subway salads and had lunch with her.
Today I will be doing some laundry and hopefully getting in a bit of sewing time. I have the pumpkin squares sewed together, next will be cutting up the twister blocks. First, however, I have some pink blocks to make and some for Izzy’s group. I have made two pink blocks. They have florals. I really have very little pink fabrics, except 30s. Guess I should really look for pink when I go to the LQS next time and get a more balanced stash.
Mel—your DGS says the cutest things. I know you will miss your time with him. Sounds like your weather is like everyone else’s—too wet or too dry. Take care! I have never had the canning urge after a very bad experience in, of all places, home ec class. If I can’t freeze it or don’t have enough freezer space, it doesn’t get done. The stories about the canners exploding scare me, too. I’ll have to try the soap.
Suzette—guess I should make my dogs their own blankets… I agree about the white definitely not being a doggie quilt color especially not around here! The quilt show will be so memorable!
Vicky—your soap must smell good enough to eat! I’ve never seen the orange scented soap. Have a blessed day.
Lois—so you got hexed, too! What are you making? Enjoy your dinner… Italian? Yum!
Tess—Judi gave us a great bread recipe that is very easy and oh-so-good. My bread machine(s) didn’t last too long, either. I don’t gain as much weight if I’m not making homemade bread as often.
Kathy—you have dancing mist, I have smothering fog this morning. I love it—like the clouds giving me a hug. I hope you will be able to figure out how to post the photos. The first time is the hardest; second time is easier.
Chrissy—good morning! Hope you find time to make a Halloween table topper with your cute fabric. Best wishes to Myles and a big hug! So sorry about your uncle.
Judi—we’re retired, we can sleep in. Your quilt is going together quickly. The Ellie Ann fabrics are such a pleasure to work with. What is Ken cooking… your breakfast? What a guy! I’ve made two blocks…
MaryZ—Guess I haven’t been to photobucket in awhile. It’s different every time I go there. I think our rain is over for awhile, but the inch we received is welcome. You are so busy and get so many quilts completed. If I can’t can it in the blue enamelware, I don’t do it either. I make mostly jam. Did the limb and pulling of your meter do any damage to your home?
Velda—I’m just seeing two or three hummers a day here, too. I keep cleaning the feeders and putting them out again for the few stragglers. I will miss them, too.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Re: Sunday, September 29th, 2013
Good Morning Girls
The rain is gone and the sun is shining... it's going to be a beautiful day! A little chilly, but I'm loving it! Got the uglies done yesterday, except for the ironing, so today I may go outside and do a little yard work. Or not! If room mate gets out of bed before noon she wants to go to Joann with me. It's a wonder to me how some body can lay in bed til noon, then lay on the couch ALL afternoon!
Yesterday I did get a few Oct. Lotto blocks made, but even with all the green in my stash I don't even enough colors that GO together, so might look at Joann for a little more. Need to make new curtains for my living room window, so that's on my list and I think I saw that all batting was on sale, so need to grab a bunch of that. And of course sashing and backing for Christmas quilt and Calendar Quilt! Good thing pay day was Friday and the bills are paid and there's a few dollars left over--which rarely happens.
Mel....Fells Naptha? My Mom always had a bar of that sitting by the washing machine! The only thing that got out grass stains! Making home-made laundry soap sounds like a lot of work. I use the Pods! No fuss, no muss! Hope you're quilting funk passes quickly!
Suzette.... Years ago I had a break maker machine, but it was dangerous... It was so such good bread that I can eat it all! Now for the life of me I can't remember what I did with it. What a great Dog-Mom you are for making them their own quilts! Room mate's cats love to lay on my quilts, but I'm not a fan of cat hair, so I have to hide them! Would love to see pictures of the Quilts of Honor show. I bet they will be awesome!
Vicky... prayers continue for Tia!
Kathy... if you need help posting a picture... let me know! You can e-mail it to me and I can post it for you. Would love to see your table topper.
Chrissy.... Great news about Heather!!! Will keep your Uncle in prayers today too, that his passing is peaceful when God is ready for him.
Judi... where did you get charms from that they arrived in 3 days?? WOW.. that's fast. I watched another tutorial at Miss. Star and now have ANOTHER idea in my head to do with charms! I still need to make Jen and Michael a quilt and Jen like's scrappy, which is a little out of my comfort zone, I like patterns! Maybe when she's home we'll check out my stash and she can pick her colors!
Maryz.... Is the power back on? Do you have a battery back up for your sewing machine? In my youth I canned. We had a huge garden one year and I canned tomatoes and green beans and made pickles. Next year I'll plant tomatoes again, love to make home made salsa!
Velda....Go For It!! Get out the sewing machine and SEW!
Chickie....If I'm not driving in it.. I love to watch the fog.. reminds me of Ireland. How I'd love to go back again!
Well girls, I think I'm going to get motivated, jump in the shower and get ready to run to Joann! IF room mate gets up in time I'll take her along. Threw a roast in the crock pot this morning so we can have a nice dinner tonite. With luck, I'll get her run the vac today, supposedly it's her "job" tho she doesn't do it very often. Any suggestions on how to motivate a 34 year old to DO SOMETHING!
Wishing you all a great day! Anxiously waiting for baby news!

Re: Sunday, September 29th, 2013
Good morning,
Just waiting for Church time -all the family will be here for dinner tonight. I have 2 crock pots going with the roasts. Will make bread rolls after Church this afternoon.
Stu and I got the basement bathroom space all cleaned out and all the Christmas moved in there. Then he hauled up my boxes with all the fall decoration. While the bread is raising I will put them out.
Mel - I will check with Sarah about if you can use the small pressure canner - this past spring she took classes to get her Master Preserver's certifaction. She learned a lot! It was done by the local university extensions program.
With all the snow and cold the new lawn has taken root. Yippee! I was a little bit worried.
Well it is hard to type with just one finger on my tablet - I do love a regular keyboard
See ya later,
Hugs
Jana

Re: Sunday, September 29th, 2013
Morning all! Just a quick stop in before I try to get something done. I didn't make it to church today. Guess the Lord will have to take "50 points" away from me. I haven't even got dressed yet. Got a feeling this is going to turn into a "goof off" day. It rained here a little bit, but it seems like every time it gets to the Indiana and Ohio border it breaks up and we don't get much in NW Ohio this late in the year.
Suzette - Your dogs will love their quilts. Several years ago I crocheted afghans for my dog and my son's dog. A lady where my son works could not believe his mom made an afghan for his dog. We do lots of things for our pets. Look forward to seeing yours. The Marine Corps quilt show sounds really exciting. It combines two things I love quilting and The Corps. Have a good time.
Vicky - Tia's baby is just waiting until Wednesday because it is my birthday and it is my present. LOL Tell her we are all becoming "nervous Nelly". Ha!
Chrissy1 - I understand what you mean about the Halloween fabric. I bought a piece several years ago. It is really beautiful, but I can't figure what I want to do with it. That is how I got such a big stash of fabric.
Cindyg - Sorry I am not coming to Houston for the Quilt Show this year, but I have already "booked" my room with my son for 2014. Think of me while you are there and post pictures.
Well, better go get some lunch. Next weekend there is a really great craft show in Shipshewana, IN that I am going to. It is my birthday present to myself. If you live anywhere near Shipshewana you can't go wrong driving to the show. Prayers for all today.
Sherry

Re: Sunday, September 29th, 2013
good lazy afternoon. Gospel singing night so DD and I are playing hookey to spend some time resting.. I have sewn together 7 lap quilts this afternoon. They are bright and cheerful. I have been using blocks you all sent and material squares the ladies brought in. Been tough mixing and matching. I finally just said it it works on the color wheel then its going in the lap quilts. LOL My DH has commented that some are bright LOL
I did finish my christmas block swap quilt yesterday. I just have to put the batting and binding on and pin it. Hummm I lost my nice room to DFD where I could spread it all out and tape down. Sooo Looks like I am on the hunt for another spot in house.
I still have not done my SBS blocks from last week and Tess has posted them for this week. Oh me oh my. I think I am going to cut them out and baggie them and take with me to hand sew while on vacation. Yeah that sounds like good idea. LOL
I almost have sewing room back to neat. I had NH blocks all over trying to match sizes and colors. LOL Now they are at end of ironing board #1 by machine to sew together. Looks like I have 20 all together so far:) I still have small blocks to sew together and decide How I will utilize them in lap quilt. I will sew till there are no more to sew I am so estatic that I will have so many to take at Christmas for the residents:)
My laundry soap recipe is from an old homesteader. Its one bar of your favorite scented soap: grate it and put in pot on stove to melt down; I do this by putting on low and when soap changes color I add 1/2 cup boiling water to help melt it down. I boil in my largest stock pot water. Once water in soap pot is really saturated with soap I pour into one quart hot water in mop bucket in sink. I keep adding water to soap pot and repeat this step by stirring and smashing soap until all is desolved and in mop bucket. I then pour the hot water from stock pan into bucket. Add 1 box of baking soda to bucket and stir. Let cool then fill my 4 liquid wash bottles back up. To use just shake well then pour out one lid full into HE washer:) I have been using it for years and really save money doing so. I add bleach to whites and the oxy clean to darks one scoop. My DH says clothes smell cleaner with this than the store bought.
Well better get off here. I think I left my iron on downstairs.
God bless and happy thoughts
Izzy
Kathy did you daughter get to come home? I sure hope so.
Vicky hope baby is here soon:)
Cool and rainy here now too. Winter is on its way. Feels like October:)
5 days til vacation
DH grandmothers body made it to KY last night. Uncle made visitation for 11am Wed and burial at 1. He went in and completely changed the sisters arrangements they made years ago with their mom present. So sad how this is all taking place. Keep them in prayers on WED. They will need it.

Hi everyone
)
No baby yet? I was telling DD that we are all waiting on Tia's baby and she said her Dr's said 10 days past your due date and then they induce.....wonder if that's the standard or if it's to each his own?
I am exhausted.....I planned on sewing some pink blocks today but DD brought over her Cocker puppy and we spend 6+ hours, 1st washing him then picking tiny sticker things out of him. He got into something and man oh man poor baby has 3 festered spots between his toes. Me and DD had tweezers and him setting on the card table and we picked and picked and I even cut off as much of his hair as I could....he's not like Duncan.....Duncan is a good boy about being clipped but not Bailey....he even growled at me. But I cut him some slack because he didn't complain when we were picking all those sticker things out of his feet and legs.
I think we're having cereal or soup or nothing for supper....hurting too much to care.
Have a good evening everyone
