Cosmetic Bag from Inka

Recently I have seen a short programme on local TV how to make this bag (I know the lecturer, I have been to two courses she had given). For a long time I had thought of making one, so I had a go.... I must say it was in no way that easy as it looked! The eternal zipper installation problem was matched by the bulky seams on the sides. According to the instructions, the whole baggie was made of one big rectangular sandwich, joined on shorter sides by the zipper and sewn together on the sides... I had trouble with the zipper - with the outstanding ends being cut away I ended up with an ugly zipper torso and when I tried to remove the little metal parts with pliers (to be able to sew across that section) I managed to pull the polyester spiral out! So I had to rip the whole thing and replace it by a new zipper (with it being shorter this time I managed to preserve at least ONE sound end of it!). Anyway - a precious piece of good advice here - should you ever try it, sew little "tabs" on the zipper ends first, then add the lining and surface fabrics making a sandwich with the zipper .... I made this part (the "lid") yesterday and am now brooding about joining the other parts including the installation of the batting layer .... Have you ever tried it? What is your experience?

That's cute. Makes me want to sew some small projects. I've been stuck on large quilts for so long, I have forgotten about all my other patterns. I need to dig them out and see what I can do. Oh No, I promised to get some of my ufo's finished this winter.

Adorable purse. There is some gal who has bag patterns and says she has a full proof way of putting in zippers. If I can find her name, will let you know.

Redtop, we do have a UFO support group, but I think we have all gone on hiatus for the holiday season--! I will make sure to bump the discussion up to the top again after the holiday sewing rush is over...I need the support, too!

What a darling bag! Great job. I have a few UFOs to work on also. Can't wait to get back to some of them but that will have to wait until after the holidays.
Happy stitching!!

Cute - I have not made a cube purse, just regular bags and NO zippers

I really like that! I can see that it would have been difficult but I'm glad you stuck with it.
