Fiber Layering
We had a workshop from our quilt guild today...on fiber layering. We made a 9x10" wall hanging with silk leaves, yarn, organdy ribbon, glitzsy sparkley thread etc. Then we covered all of it with a piece of colored tulle and pinned it all down. Then free motion quilted the piece with the technique called "McTavishing". Karen McTavish has a unique swirl effect with her background quilting, and we were taught how to do this for quilting our design. Then we were given beads to sew on in random areas...didn't get mine sewn on yet...very artsy stuff! Not sure how I will use this again, but it was fun.

Looks like a fun project to do when you feel like you need to get out of a rut!! I may show this to my artistic GD and let her try it (she is much more "out of the box" than her Granny. I bet you had a fun day. Thanks for sharing.

I think it is beautiful. Have you seen some of the quilts at the Houstion Quilt Festival? This is just the kind of piece the judges seem to love.
