autograph quilt

Post by nanjam62 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 5:55 am

This is an autograph quilt I made for my Aunt's 90th birthday in July. The lovely "quilt holders" are me & DH.

On the center of each block I embroidered a cousins name and their children's names on the cross bars. The second row middle block has grandparent with each of their children (my aunts & uncles) My aunt actually liked it more than she looks like she does. LOL

So nice to see a pic of you! The quilt is perfect and looks like you did an outstanding job on it. Bet she did just love it! Some folks don't like having their pic taken. I really do love the quilt.

Wow, it looks great! How did you do the nice outer border/binding? Is it done as a broad binding? Or is it both a striped border and a striped binding? I love the look of it!

And, lovely to see you!

HSmary, I put a blue & white block border on it but it was too much, kind of overwhelmed the rest of the quilt so I just cut it in half and I thought it looked better. I was doing that the cay before we had to leave for her party so a lot of thought and planning did not go into it.
It is hand tied rather than quilted so it does not have a binding. (Like El shows to do them in her books, where you sew it and turn like a pillow case. That is how we do most of our prayer quilts because we make so many and none of us know how to machine quilt. We use warm & natural batting and that helps.

I just looked at a closeup of the picture and I am wrong. I stitched in the ditch and then in the larger white diamond shapes I used embroidery stipple designs ..with just the top and batting and then added the back & turned it. Then added some border stitching (I think, gosh that was 3 months ago, I'm not really sure how I finished it. LOL
