No smarty arty Mary! LOL!!! I did NOT fall asleep. I just asked a dumb question and thought better of it so I edited the whole thing
And GP why DO you have Halloween? What is the meaning behind it?
I thought it may be something to do with diet. You know...feed the little kiddies all those lollies and then scare the cr*p out of them so they don"t put on any weight!!!

LOL, kadie, I thought so, I just couldn't resist the temptation...
Also, I think your Halloween-diet-theory is very plausible...LOL!

Thanks HomespunMary for agreeing with me about the Halloween diet. Well not actually agreeing, but thinking about it. I think we foreigners may need to stick together 'cause we sure are out numbered on here and if they decide to gang up on us we're in BIG trouble. So do you have anything like Halloween in Sweden? Or is it only a States thing?

Kadie
Halloween is the night before All Saints Day, Nov 1. We wear all kinds of costumes. Most adults don't dress, but I do. I run around the yard, hide in the bushes, scream a horrible sound, and ask the children to join me in my soup, literlly. I have scared children, teens, and adults as well. Isn't that sick? I usually don't give out candy because if the weather is bad I am stuck with it. If I should get candy I buy stuff I don't like, No magnetic pull then.
It is my favorite holiday. All you have to do is act silly, you don't have big family dinners, nothing is expected of you, and most adults are just glad when it is done.

Re:
kadie, actually, it is a bit complicated here... We do both have a really old tradition of "all saints' eve" about the same time as the American Halloween, and nowadays also the US halloween has been imported here... Noone has any idea why we celebrate these things (I think All saints' eve was rather for mourning from the beginning). Together, they drag out for almost a week...
So, in short: we have two, but we have no idea why...
Don't you have anything similar at all?

We don't have anything like it here that I can think of. One of the local schools tried it (the trick or treating) one year .The teachers escorted the littler kids around the neighbourhood and a lot of us did the lolly thing for them, but that was only the one time, a few years ago.
We don't have Thanksgiving here either but I know the history behind that (I think).
Maybe in the USA they should combine Halloween with Thanksgiving and give the kids turkey legs instead of lollies. Think of the dentist bills you could save on and all the hissy fits you wouldn't have due to sugar highs!
Oh yeah, I forgot to ask...Where does the pumpkin thing fit in...the Jack O Lanterns I think you call them?
