Finished my Moomin quilt!

Post by HomespunMary » Sun Aug 19, 2007 8:12 am

Just finished my second quilt this summer! This means I've made as many quilts this summer as I had previously done in my whole life..:-)

This baby quilt - although I admit the colors are a bit unusual for a baby - is the first quilt I'm really entirely happy with, so I'm in a very good mood right now! The only sad thing is that the picture doesn't at all reflect how nice the fabrics actually go together...

The baby is not yet born, but he or she (people don't seem to want to find out here, they want it to be a surprise) will be the sibling of my god daughter, and is due first week of September.

Special thanks are due to grammy65, for helping me out with the curling ribbon border!

And, a close-up of one of the Moomins, since they didn't show up very well in the previous picture...:-) They are children's book characters from Finland, and very popular around here.

Thanks, girls! Yes, CindyB, I did the quilting - a combination of stitch in the ditch and stippling. That really made the black polka dot areas become very "defined", which is what I'd hoped for, and it also made the hearts almost look a little bit like trapunto... Of course, none of this shows up in the pictures... It is so annoying. The last quilt I made, I thought came out better in the pictures than in real life, but with this one it is unfortunately really the opposite..:-(

Oh my goodness Maria....you continue to astound me with your quilts. I just can't get over how darn good you are for being a beginner. Must be a natural talent!!! Your quilting is sooooo good.

What a great baby quilt. They say a baby only sees black and white in the beginning.

The ribbon border really works well with the quilt. The hearts are so cute as are the little characters. Really a great look all together. YOU GO GIRL!!!!

That's an absolutely precious quilt and can certainly be used well beyond the little baby period.

What an absolutely wonderful quilt! It is sooo cute! I also like that ribbon border, I've never attempted that. It's a great addition to the quilt!
