American Beauty Update

Post by SFOQuilter » Mon Aug 13, 2007 6:55 pm

Well ladies, I am making some good progress on my American Beauty blocks following a one week business trip to the UK and recovering from a nasty cold! Yuck.

Anyway, here is a photo of 4 completed blocks. My first observation is that this project is a LOT of work and not for the faint of heart:) However, many of El's tips included in the book are really helpful. Like sew the crowns and circles and sit in a nice easy chair to turn them. It's all about doing it in stages. I am learning many things as I go along...like how to make better points on the crowns. Some of mine are better than others...but that's OK, this one is for my own wall:) If you do this project make sure you have all the recommended tools, including stiletto and ballpoint, they all come in handy and play an important part in making this. Don't cut any corners.

Now that I have all the pieces cut, sewn and layed out for assembly I am really liking it. I haven't decided on the color for the sashing yet but I will get to that this weekend.

Love the material. You are braver than I am. I decided a long time ago that applique is not for me. Not by hand or by machine. I saw this pattern being made on quilterstv.com in a different way. I think Alex Anderson was hosting the show, but can't remember. When you get this done it is going to be beautiful! :) S

Your fabric choice is great. I'm learning that choice of fabric is half the battle. Covers up for the mistakes we think we make! This project is going to be beautiful when hung on your wall.
