Alaska Quilt

Post by maryq » Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:01 am

Here it is... It's finally done

I bought this quilt kit in Alaska in 2023 when I was visiting Jen. It sat in my closet for a long time, as I was too scared to work on it. Last summer I cut out all the pieces and had them carefully marked. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It kind of threw me off a little as the center squares were supposed to be cut at 12" but to do that exactly meant they would cut into each other... you know what I mean? Anyway I had to cut them 11.5" and it took me a little while to figure out how to adjust everything else to allow for the difference. But it's done and it actually almost fits my queen bed!. Viv will quilt it for me, probably this summer. I still need to procure backing fabric and while I'd love to get the exact matching fabric it's $16.00 yard--I'm hoping that I have something in my stash that will work.. Needs a little over 5 yards to back

It's really pretty Mary! You could add another border to make it fit your bed..... like how the blue and white dashes are around the blocks 😊

It's a beautiful quilt. I agree that you could add a border and then use on your bed.

MARY - I came to admire on a busy day, but forgot to leave a post! Sorry. I love your quilt. So very Alaskan! Love the details- sashing around the blocks and also the sashing between the blocks. I agree with the others - if you'd like it big enough for a queen bed, I agree with others - another border might do it. Or - you could fold it and lay it across the foot of your bed. I'm going to be in Northern Threads (Marie Noah's shop) third week of March. Want me to see if they have coordinating fabric for your backing? It would be fun to shop for fabric and spend someone else's money!
