OT - pictures of my walk

Post by WeSignificant » Fri Oct 23, 2020 7:15 am

As many of you know, I live in Vallejo which was once the home of Mare Island Naval Base. The base was closed when many other military installations were closed. We took a big hit with that and the town has really gone down hill. Luckily, some things on the island have been preserved. The home is the Admirals quarters. There is a row of maybe 12 or so of these older estate type homes. I just love them. The church is St. Peter's Chapel. If is both protestant and Catholic. I know a couple who was married there 70 years ago. It was not open for me to take pictures inside, it is absolutely gorgeous. The stained glass windows are all Tiffany glass except 3 of them. They are considered priceless but are insured for 4 million dollars. They also have a cover over the outside of them to protect from vandelism.

It is nice to see that those areas are being preserved. We would take rides with the kids all around the Bay Area and through Mare Island too. As a child on the way up to Russian River, we would drive by and see the submarines being built. Thanks for sharing.
