Split Nine Patch

Post by gmaann » Mon Nov 23, 2009 9:16 am

This is a Split Nine Patch - for the queen size bed in our trailer. The only thing I bought specifically for this quilt was the red for the border. All the rest was made with scraps from other projects over many years. The border has a 'story'. When I held the quilt top (without borders) up for DH to see, he said "It needs a bright red border". Paul is always complimentary about my work, but he rarely offers a suggestion. So, since it was "red week" at QIAD, I looked online for something good. This is from a collection called "Monsters in the Closet", and has words on it like "Big, Furry, Huggable, Growl, Argh". I thought that would be funny for the border of this scrappy quilt (and it was $3.75/yd.) When it arrived I looked at it and thought something was wrong. And it was - all the words are printed backwards!! At first I was annoyed, but the longer I thought about it, the funnier it seemed. I did send a message to QIAD Customer Service saying I wasn't at all sure that the next person who ordered it would think it was so funny. They took it off the website. But when I was there last week after Camp Cedar Glen, they found it for me and I bought what was left - 2 yards. Not sure what I'll do with it. If you look at the wrong side of the fabric, the words are correct!

What a cool, beautiful, bright, cheery quilt and with the funny border story, it's certainly a one-of-a-kind! You'll always get a chuckle from it. How special!

I really like it Ann. It is a very "happy" looking quilt. And because of the story and your DH helping, it will possibly the quilt that will be in your family for generations to come. LOL
Have Fun,
