We just returned from vacationing in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. We hiked both and there were bear warnings all over. We had seen bear across the lake and by telescope and were happy with that. Then on the last day of our vacation we were hiking in Glacier. First we saw the scat, then we saw the sow and cub ahead on the trail. You can only back up because the vegetation is so thick on the sides of the trail. We backed up quick and turned onto a foot bridge. Fortunately there was a young man with bear spray at the ready. First the bear went past us up the trail, then she turned and came back and started after the us on the bridge. We backed up all the way across the bridge and then she and the cub crossed and ran up the hillside. We recrossed the bridge and continued on the trail home. Very exciting!!
