Vacation Bear Encounter

Post by Rose92 » Sat Aug 01, 2009 2:40 pm

We just returned from vacationing in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. We hiked both and there were bear warnings all over. We had seen bear across the lake and by telescope and were happy with that. Then on the last day of our vacation we were hiking in Glacier. First we saw the scat, then we saw the sow and cub ahead on the trail. You can only back up because the vegetation is so thick on the sides of the trail. We backed up quick and turned onto a foot bridge. Fortunately there was a young man with bear spray at the ready. First the bear went past us up the trail, then she turned and came back and started after the us on the bridge. We backed up all the way across the bridge and then she and the cub crossed and ran up the hillside. We recrossed the bridge and continued on the trail home. Very exciting!!

Wow Linda! Neat pics. I have some friends that just spent the last 2 weeks at Yellowstone camping. Their little boy wanted to see a bear while they were there. His mother was not too thrilled with that idea. Glad you had a great time.

That is really cool... I will have to show my boys there really are bears that cross the roads... when we are on car trips and they start getting unruly or bicker at one another, I bribe them and tell them I will buy them a candy bar if they spot a bear... haven't had to buy one yet but I am sure my day will come!!! LOL

Hugs!

Cool looking though but nothing to fool with. In upper Michigan we have a lot of little black bears. Because they are smaller people think they are less dangerous. They can kill. But mostly they are scared of humans. As long as they don't have a cub or food to protect.
