Another use for scraps

Post by khowardquilts » Sun Feb 08, 2009 3:58 am

Use scraps to do mock ups of a design. This was done with 1" = 5". It is a good use for those 1" strips. The fabrics don't have to match what you are actually using in your quilt, just try to match the value and color. The black and white photo lets you check your contrast. I don't have enough contrast in part of it. I need to redo the mock up and check my fabrics carefully.

I need to use a very light bright red and a very dark blue. I am thinking about switching the med. blue and the light blue.

Great Idea!! I think I'll start taking a black/white photo of my blocks before I start cutting out all of the strips.

Thanks!

This is a great idea khowardquilts! This is where a digital camera would come in handy.

Here is the same pattern with the med. and dark switched in the top half. It shows up better, but I still like the blades (big triangle and small together) better dark. I will just have to make sure that the red is a light bright one and the dark blue is quite dark. Though I have been requested not to have it navy blue. I have some other reds that are prints that may work.

Oops something got mixed up with the photo. I'll do it again.

Here I have gone with a lighter red, gone back to the dark blue, and switched light blue and medium in some places. The reds are fabrics I may use, but I'll be using different blues (I didn't have scraps of some of them. This represents the upper left hand corner of the quilt.
