This is the completed locker hooked rug. It uses lots and lots of 1" strips.

Beautiful & very interesting! Is it hard to do?

I've read about a few Ladies here on the forum doing this technique, but had never seen anything before. Is it like crochet only with a larger hook and fabric?

Thank you. It's done with a locker hook which is like a crochet hook but with an eye on one end, latch hook canvas, fabric and string. The hook is used to draw up the fabric through the rug hooking canvas. The eye of the hook is threaded with string and it is pulled trough the loops of fabric to hold them in place. It is easy to do Grama2Davey but time consuming. It's a great way to get rid of strips of ugly fabric.

Redsaltbox, I am a bit confused - is this lovely rug hooked or weaved? You would need a frame in the latter case, I suppose ... Please, advise. Many years ago I made a small hooked round carpet for out bathroom - using thick yarn. It´s gone with the wind now - but I keep using those rag rugs in front of my kitchen cupboard (hate standing on bare foot - and those rugs catch all - otherwise very visible - drops and crumbs falling from above). Maybe I could make one sometimes? But I suppose the "consumption" of fabric stripes must be enormous ...

Inka it is hooked onto a canvas. The fabric strip is brought up from under the canvas with the hook forming loops and then the string on the eye of the hook is brought through from the top through the loops to lock everything together. From a distance it does look similar to the rugs that are woven on looms with fabric and string. I remember seeing one's that my Grandmother had made. Hope this helps.
