When I scoured my stash this week for every 5 inch charm I could find I came across 2 packs of Pampered Pooch by Moda. I had bought them some time ago when I had no idea what I would do with them. Now that I've discovered these totes they came in handy That's where the good news almost got ugly. I learned an important lesson today. Not all charm packs are created equal. I discovered that many of the charms in these two packs were cut short on on side. Almost half of the total number were 5 X 4.5 inches. I had to toss those out of the mix and ended up with fewer than I wanted to have a really nice variety on the tote. I also had to abandon the pattern of doing a 4 patch twice for the inside pockets. So ladies, when you are using charm packs it is worth the time to quickly check that each one does in fact measure 5 x 5 inches BEFORE you start sewing them together. An easy way is to lay them out on the grid of your cutting mat to get a fast look at whether it fits perfectly in a 5 X 5 grid of squares. This was a real headache today. But I managed to get through it and here we have a Pampered Pooch tote bag. My favorite part is the button which I got at Joanns where buttons are on sale half price. By the way, in the Pampered Pooch charm packs you get two colorways, red/black/blue and pink/green/blue pastels. I opted to separate them into two different totes. I have the pastel one all quilted and ready to be assembled.
