What I bought on Saturday
Hi all,
Just have to show some of what I bought on Saturday. I attended a Fair Trade Textiles Disply & Sale with DH and we were both drawn to these appliqued blocks on hemp. I wish you could see how perfect the stitches are. They are nearly invisible!
Both of these have been framed for our room. Our bedroom is done in jewel tones with a calm, neutral wall colour and wrought iron for accents.

Here is the first block that caught my eye. It's a royal blue, some may say it's a sapphire blue. I backed it with a red square of 100% organic, fairly traded silk. It's matted with simple white and then I put it in a simple black frame.
Here it is framed, the picture isn't very good b/c of the reflection.

I can't believe I was able to find such a beautiful piece of art that also happens to match our room and it was only $14. I couldn't buy a framed poster for that little money!
Here is a black one we picked up b/c the design is different. I think the fabric is carefully folded into quarters, cut once and opened up again.

I bought these pieces at a display sale, like I said, but if you're intrigued you can always check out the website. http://www.tammachat.com/index.html'>ht ... index.html

Redsaltbox,
I'd never seen anything like them either. That's my rationale for buy 4 of them. One is in a pale lemon colour - that's going in the kitchen. And the other is a rectangle so it can be hung vertically or horizontally. It's about 18 inches long by 6 inches wide. It's done is a jewel tone purple.
Our room also has another textile work framed and hung as art. It's an embroidered piece done on black cotton with thick, vibrant colours. It's a scene of a woman leaving her hut with her water bucket on her head. I paid $25 for that one and I just love it. The artist embroidered her first name on the block too.
I would love to fill my house with framed textiles that reflect different cultures. I think I have to travel more, don't you? LOL
