My QU homework, LOL!

Post by HomespunMary » Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:43 am

I started a class called "Fractal fragments" at QuiltUniversity.com yesterday, and have spent a good deal of the weekend playing with my first homework :-)

The class is not about techniques, but about finding one's own preferences and design choices. One (voluntary) part of the first assignment was to come up with computer generated images (fractals) that may be used as an inspiration for quilt design (blocks, artquilts, whatever really).

LOL, don't ask me what fractals are yet, but the software I've played with came up with these (among thousands of others) images. I don't know yet if they are useful, but it sure is fun to play around with this :-)

Those are beautiful! They look very hard to make into a quilt.

LOL, well, MAW and Grammy2, that's just the thing... The idea is not necessarily that these precise images should be used, but that inspiration could be drawn from them. I'm just waiting for that inspiration to arrive :-)

Those are really cool. Do you make them into quilts? Lori

No, Lori, I have no idea what Im doing with this yet, LOL!

I really am a big fan of traditional quilts, but I just wanted to take a class that would challenge my thinking about design. I'll probably never make an art quilt, but thought that "thinking outside the box" would be a fun distraction and maybe also help when thinking about more traditional quilts in new ways... :-)

I vote for the 3rd one too. You suppose the quick trip method might work?

Veeeerrry interesting!! I think the idea of experimenting to find our design choices and preferences is wonderful. It's so easy to just follow a pattern that someone else has done and sometimes the result is not very pleasing to ourselves because it's not really us. Guess it's a bit like buying garments. Thanks for the insight.

Maria, I like the 2nd one. Looks like you could apply the McTavishing you have been trying. The last one could be a candidate also. What program are you useing? Do you just get an image then twist/distort the pictures? Very interesting! Keep us updated on what you come up with.
