Girl Scout Sue

Post by sewcarolyn » Sun Apr 06, 2008 6:14 pm

I have become a Sewing Sue fiend....
My friend Marti and I are putting together an auction item for the Girl Scout Recognition Dinner in April. Since she and I have been working on the vintage uniforms which have been donated to the Orange County Girl Scout Council over the years so it is appropriate that we donate something to recognize vintage GS. This little Sunbonnet Sue is wearing fabric from old uniforms, that were too damaged to salvage. The background fabric is GS yardage that I found years ago at a store that carries overstock from manufacturers. Marti is making it into a pillow as part of our basket. I will post a photo of the finished project when Marti finishes her part.

Very cute! That uniform fabric must have been a bear to work with, though...it's kinda thick and stiff.

So cute! I've actually seen old girl scout uniforms at the Goodwill store--- you've got me thinking now! I had seen a Sue that was wearing a GS vest and has tiny patches on the back, and she was holding a box of GS cookies--- now if I can find an old GS shirt for the background, it would be perfect!

I was a GS leader when my youngest was growing up. We had SO much fun-- especially the camping part. One time we took 45 girls with us--- canoeing, swimming, sleeping under the stars--- I wouldn't trade those times for anything! :-)

Thank-you everyone. I have one sketched with cookies in her wagon (the wagon from the Flamingo one) I have until the fall to do her for the next GS event. I no longer have a troop (I did for 14 years) I "retired" when Julia graduated last spring, but I still do special events with the troop, am the Gold Adviser for a couple of girls and train leaders at 2 levels for the Orange County Council.

Carole-The uniform material was stiff but since it had been washed so much it wasn't that bad.
