Sweetheart Roses mess

For the last two days I've been trying to put this kit together. The square blocks were no problem, but the triangle pieces have me totally confused. I KNOW I cut 17" and 12" squares to make the triangles, but now the triangles are all the same size. That doesn't even make sense because according to what I cut, the 4 corner ones should be smaller. Just when I think I've got it right and sew a seam, I've got a triangle headed in the wrong direction or it's upside down. Every seam I've stitched involving a triangle has been torn out at least once. If this thing turns out really stupid looking and totally lop-sided I'm just going to square it off the best I can and call it good. The picture doesn't even do it justice because it's the ugliest piece of work you can imagine.

Got down to the last two triangles tonight and screwed it up again. I'll rip that out tomorrow. I've never purchased a kit before and probably won't again. The kit was $59.99 ... backing fabric package was 29.99 ... and of course there was postage (Keepsake Quilting). If it weren't for that it would have been in the garbage two days ago. To make matters worse, I managed to "stretch" the triangles because they're on the bias and they won't lie flat no matter how much they're ironed. So THAT has to be fixed too.

Glad you like my dog Patch, which is short for patchwork, not her one black eye. lol She's a sweetie and always at my side no matter where I am. Here's my fav picture of her.

I've done one on-point project & because of those pesky triangles, I'll never do another one! Judy, I think it looks great from my view! I'm glad to see someone else sews that their dining room table! LOL

It looks fine from here! Triangles can be tricky, just go slow and stick with it, it'll be worth it in teh end.
I'm makinga quilt for my DD that is all triangles. It has 60 small stars and 8 large ones. Each star has 9 different triangles. Right now it looks like a mess but hopefully it'll turn out okay.

Oh, JudyWoo...what a bummer! No advice to offer, but from looking at the picture it doesn't look bad at all. I would be willing to bet the farm that all of us here, or almost all of us, have done one project that has been a nightmare to complete! So frustrating!

Keep plugging, and take breaks when you feel yourself boiling over so you don't reach for the lighter fluid and the matches--! Been there, done that...

Love your pup-pup! Give Patch a hug and a belly rub for me!

your puppy dog is so cute...don't they make the world look right from any angle. I have sworn off triangles I tried an "easy" pattern for am "I Spy" and hated how it twisted on me. Yours looks lovely but I understand the frustration.....

You know I have a sewing room but lately bring my machine out to the dining room so that it is in the middle of everything

Judywoo, just a quick tip........ Starch the heck out of the pieces that you know that are going to be triangles! lol they will be much more stiff and wont stretch as much, plus.......be Sure you are lifting the iron straight up and down.....NO wiggling of the iron as that will stretch those bias sections.

It probably looks better than you think! We are our own worst critic! From what I can tell your pattern is as cute as your dog!
