Inka,

I didn't sew the hexagons first, I laid the hexagons out to create my pattern, then took half of each hexagon (three pieces) and sewed them along with other hexagon halves to create a strip, then made a second strip with the the remaining half of hexagons to make another strip and matched them to the coordinating first three. (A total of 20+ strips) With the rows laid together (top/bottom)I put a pin in the center of each hexagon to match them the points. I then ran a basting strip, checked my work for accuracy on matching points and then sewed again. If you look at the closeups you can see the strips.

Well, I couldn't stand it any more, so I went searching on the internet to find a website or something for the lady who wrote this book to find out if there was a way to do the cubes. Somewhere along the way I found an e-mail for her. So I just e-mailed her asking about the cubes. She must have been on her computer, because 10 minutes later I received an e-mail back telling me that she has a second book out called "One Block Wonders Encore." This book tells you how to do the cubes. I ordered it off Amazon.com.

I need some more days in the week....don't you all???? I want to start the Trapunto project, the One Block Wonder project, and get my DGS's quilt quilted by the 18th (the glow-in-the-dark thread is on its way).

Hope you all had a great 4th of July.

Diane

Grammy65,

I'm so glad you will be able to incorporate the hollow cubes into the pattern. They are easy to do, but pay attention to the instructions so that you don't accidentally sew the wrong pieces together (from experience w/this pattern)

I would like to see how your's turns out. What color/fabric pattern are you using?

Erin...haven't really picked any fabric out yet. But it sure helped seeing what you used and how it turned out. I think I'm more interested in doing a wall hanging at this point. I have some Princess Di fabric I bought a few years back. It has a blue background with white roses. It may not be busy enough (too much solid background), but you just never know. If I just do something small I can be more choosey I guess. I can't wait to see how those cubes are done.
