It's easier than I thought it would be to line up the layers of fabric. You put a straight pin through the top layer at some intersection (like the top of a leaf, or the eye of the fish...) and then lift that layer and put it through the same point on the layer below. And so on and so on. You do that on the 4 corners and in the middle and then carefully pin the layers for cutting.

The most fun is when you sew them together and see how different they turn out....it is definitely worth putting the time into lining up those prints! You have ten blocks on your design board...how many are you going to make for your quilt?

I'm not sure. Those are from one 8 inch strip of fabric and I have a 4 yard piece of this fabric. I guess I could make a really big quilt:)I'm going to cut one more strip tonight.

Wow. That's some great stack & whack! I can't believe all those hexagons came out of that fabric. Such variety!

Is there a huge amt. of bulk in the center when you get them sewn? I am really loving these blocks!

Cathy ... that's a great question about the bulk.
I've done paper piecing where I've had as many as 12 pieces come together in one place and I used a little hammer to "tap down" the bulky spot. I put the blocks on my wood cutting board in the kitchen and just tapped until the bulky seam intersection was nice and flat ... and it didn't hurt anything.
